Pixar Summer Internship 2014

Well done sir!

I’m kind of concerned now since I’ve got very little 3D experience :unamused:

I was a production internship finalist back in the fall (2013). I think I made it to the final 5 or 6 and they were going to hire 3 production interns if I remember correctly. I had one phone interview and two in person interviews with Pixar; the first in person interview was really two small interviews with separate people from production, the third was with HR. A day after my final interview they pushed back the good dinosaur, froze hiring, and cancelled the internship. The entire process took a month and a half.

I reapplied for the production internship for the winter and wasn’t able to get a phone interview. I’m reapplying for the summer production internship, but it doesn’t look good. The deadline is in two days and back in the fall they contacted me three days before the deadline to set up a phone interview for the day after the deadline (Monday morning).

A week and a half later they contacted me for the second interview, so it seems like they went through the production applicants pretty fast and had a list of people to call before the deadline. I dunno…Just thought I’d post my experience for you guys applying to the Production internship.

@realuctant1 Perhaps there are more people who apply during the summer? I’ve wanted to apply for the fall/winter but never could because I don’t live in California (plus I’m in school still) so maybe they aren’t able to go through all the applicants and start phone interviews as quickly.

By the way, man that process sounds hard! I hope the marketing internship isn’t that many interviews! Especially since I can’t do an in person interview. I have a feeling the summer internships are less rigorous to get (other than competing against more applicants) because I know other people that have gotten the PUP and animation and story summer internships and they only had phone interviews, either only one interview or two.

I had my interview today, and I think i went pretty good. They asked a lot of technical questions, like how I achieved a certain affect on my rig etc… The people were very nice though. Also it was a “team” interview, meaning that were four(i think I can’t remember…) different people who were all asking different questions.

@Lizzy

Hey! I applied to the Story Internship too. I still haven’t heard anything.

So if they downloaded my application around March 23 but still haven’t gotten a response back, should I consider myself out?

The thing is, I have this research position that needs a response by tomorrow of whether or not I’ll take it. I don’t want to jump the gun and take it, since that would mean abandoning the idea of studying at Pixar this summer. But at the same time, I don’t want to just turn it down, because if I also get turned down by Pixar, this summer would be a waste.

Any suggestions from anyone?

And additionally, if anyone could tell me how my reel looks (honesty please!), it would help me in making this decision between the research and Pixar. vimeo.com/87828999

@jimmypod

Hey your reel looks great What internship did you apply for because Pixar decided to cancel their art Internship I think.

I applied for the Pixar Undergraduate Program! Still no response yet, though.

Ok Well something to consider is that Pixar does interviews once it picks someone. So if you get an interview the process is like 2 separate interviews and then you find out. If they call you today the interviews would still need to be scheduled, if you make it through the first one then you would go on to a second one and even then you might not get it. I think your work is good so hold on to hope but if you can take the research position and then if you get the Pixar pup, back out of the research one (which is a little crappy to do but its a safer route to take). It really depends on if you want to take a risk or not. Sorry if this is harsh or something I hope I helped

Hi all,
I applied the technical director-effects intern for this summer in Pixar.
I am a graduate student now studying at Calarts.
However I haven’t heard anything from Pixar yet… kind of depressing…:frowning:
Are there anyone applied the same position with me and got the interview??
Hope all of your guys have a good luck!!

I also applied to PUP and have not heard anything back yet

I also applied for the production internship! I haven’t heard anything back yet though, and it doesnt look like they have looked at my application yet (the date last modified is still the same)

@realuctant1 what were the interviews like and what did they ask you? It’s really a long shot, but supposing a get an interview at all i have no idea what to expect! Do you have a lot of experience? What do you think got you that far in the process?

I don’t think the whole “status update” is true for production applicants. From what I remember, there was no status update on my online application when I got interviewed. I don’t want to sound like a downer but from what I know the summer internship starts June 1st or at least the beginning of June. The interviews for the production internship lasted about a month and a half when I was a finalist. It’s almost mid-april. I’d say if we don’t hear something relatively soon then it’s a no.

Phone interview is basic and just goes through your experience and what you did at past jobs/internships and why you want to work at Pixar. Short 15 minute thing. 2nd interview is with the production teams that need the interns. These are basic interview questions for the most part and some unexpected questions to get a sense of who you are. The type of thing you’d normally expect like “give us an example of a time when you encountered a problem at work and how you dealt with it”, “what do you like doing besides film/animation”, “what are some books that you like and dislike and why”. Most questions were along the lines of the first one. The last one with HR was pretty much standard interview questions and hit a lot of the same points as the second one. The last two interviews can be done via skype or in person. I don’t remember a lot of the questions. I meant to write them down after the interviews but never did.

I think I got that far because I prepared for all of the interviews. I knew what I was going to say or what experiences to draw on and use as examples. From what I experienced, you also have to show some personality. They’re not just looking for someone who can do the job but also someone who would be a good fit there. The best thing is to just prepare.

@realuctant1 Thank you so much!! Hopefully there’s still a chance, but I know it’s really tough to get in, so I haven’t necessarily been planning on it haha. If this doesn’t work out I’ll be studying abroad, so either way i’ll have a productive summer! Good luck!

Of course! Good luck to you too. I’m still hoping for a chance myself!

Has anyone got final word from Pixar yet?

@realuctant1 Thank you so much for your information! it’s really helpful…
Which program that you applied this summer and did you get interview from Pixar.
I have some friends at Calarts said they get the response from Pixar last year around the mid of April,
so I assume that if I can’t hear anything from them recently, it means that I won’t get in… sad
anyway good luck for all of us!

Nope :open_mouth:

Is Pixar still sending out rejection letter for sure or not?
