I feel the same. I’m not getting that awesome thrill anymore. Its because, one day, SADLY, Brad Bird and John Lasseter won’t be around to direct the films… Fresh meat have been directing them. Its lacking the charm.
Exactly what I think. Those two in particular (John Lasseter and Brad Bird) are the biggest perfectionists in directing animated movies today. I think John Lasseter is great for wanting to bring in new talent, but if he doesn’t personally train them like Pete Docter and Andrew Stanton, it’s not the same. I especially think he should count only on himself to direct sequels to his movies (at least Brad Bird has the right idea there). I like Lee Unkrich, but let’s just say I like a bit more child-like spirit in my Toy Story films. Also, I’m a little bit nervous about his upcoming Dia de los muertos movie. It sounds inventive, but also dark and grim even for Pixar and certainly for me. However, I think I’ll at least like MU even if it’s not pure awesomeness. I think The Good Dinosaur might be one of those “nice surprises” films like Brave, and I just have an extremely good feeling about Inside Out. But not as much with Dia de los muertos, sorry, I don’t know why.
I also think it’s because of John that the new Disney movies are so good; he’s personally bringing out the talent in the people there, and I think this Disney era appears to strive for perfection (ah, I keep saying that) more than any other. As for DreamWorks, I don’t know if they just got a whole bunch of the right people at the right time or what, but whatever they did, it’s working and they should continue (and I should watch those movies already! ).
Anyone want to discuss what qualities best make up the studios?
Totally. I think that to be a good studio… you need dedicated people, willing to work their butts off. Thats exactly what Pixar has, dedication. I think Dreamworks is slowly clawing its way up, as I am very impressed with Rise of the Guardians. Lasseter and Bird have made Pixar the incredible studio it is today… I just hope it stays that way.
I totally agree about Lee Unkrich! i would have preferred TS3’s style and plot in a stand alone, non sequel film. And I NEED Brad Bird to make more cartoons. PLEASE
They need to consider making an Incredibles 2. I would be greatly interested
My attention and money, that would grab
I would also love a The Incredibles 2. There are only two downsides: What if by the time it came out, there were enough sequels that the public would simply not want it at that point? But what other people think is the least of my problems; will too much time pass by the time one comes along for it to be relevant? Either way, I would only want Brad Bird to direct him and no one else.
For Pixar, I think what helps them is a strive to reach out to the hearts of audiences to achieve the feeling great Disney films do, but with a twist. The Pixar films feel super-relatable. Usually in their movies, everything in their universe is exactly the same as ours except for one particular variable that makes the film unique. That’s why we can really relate to the characters. Also, each of their projects are original ideas thought up inside the studio. This is somewhat of an advantage over other studios’ films sometimes because this means that there is a greater chance for the director to have a more personal relationship with the film.
With DreamWorks, I think they focus on how to make you do a double-take at how you view things in your everyday life, be it positive or negative. Their characters have more a struggle fitting in or reaching their goal because they feel they lack something. This gives a chance for more humor to come out and to play satire on things we would expect to see differently. By the end, they end up learning how to use their flaws to their best advantages and take life for what it is. The more recent films appear to be really embracing this style in very unique ways.
Thats exactly what I think! And yes, Brad Bird MUST direct The Incredibles 2 if it ever happens. I can’t wait until Rise of the Guardians comes out on DVD!
If someone else directed The Incredibles 2, I would rent it. Not see it in theaters.
That is kind of weird actually…especially considering that they didn’t do that with all of the other species of insect characters. The grasshoppers had 4 arms and 2 legs, for example…which is actually the accurate number of legs/arms that they have in reality.
Francis, the lady bug, also has one set of legs and one set of arms. In reality, lady bugs have 6 arms/legs.
Manny also has one set of arms and one set of legs…but praying mantis’ have 6 arms/legs in reality.
For some reason they left some of the insects with as many arms/legs as they have in reality…but with some they did not. It is actually a bit confusing. lol.
As for Antz…I saw it only once ever back around the time it first came out…and I hardly remember it anymore.
^ That’s true. I guess the ants may have just had two arms because they had to be the most relatable to people, and then the other bugs behaved as their real-life versions to be unique. I like the decisions they made and I think it works, even if it wouldn’t make sense. I do agree.
What would you think if Mark Andrews was directing it? Obviously he wouldn’t match up to Bird’s talents exactly, but do you think he could still do a good job? Of course I would still MUCH MUCH prefer Brad Bird, though.
That would be okay, but I would still be disappointed.
I would just like to say: I am surprised my thread has made it to 3 pages! Thankyou guys!
If Mark Andrews dricted an Incredibles 2, I think I could deal with that. But it makes me wonder, why hasn’t Pixar produced an Incredibles 2? I think its because they may not know what exactly to do plot-wise. I’m sure they have some amazing ideas but I’m sure something is holding them back. I must say, personally, Dreamworks have improved. I have enjoyed Rise of the Guardians, Madagascar 3 and I’m looking forward to seeing The Croods. I think 2013 will be a good year for DW.
Should we mention the Ratatouille vs. Flushed Away thing here? I haven’t seen Flushed Away but I remember not wanting to because I thought it was DreamWorks returning to the days of Antz and Shark Tale since I knew Ratatouille was coming the next year. Apparently, though, it is quite a different film and not a bad one at least from what I’ve heard, plus I didn’t know about Aardman being involved. I thought it was just DreamWorks since the film was CGI.
Flushed Away has to one of my favorites from DreamWorks! I love it! Original idea and lovely voice cast! You must see it! The animation is great, like Wallace and Gromit!
I’ll have to check it out then! I wonder why DreamWorks was supposedly not very satisfied with Aardman for this one. I’m sure I’ll like it if you like it, Bonanna!
I remember seeing it at the cinema, that was a very good day
I like Flushed Away. Besides having rats, it’s not at all like Ratatouille.
It’s not among Aardman’s best, but it isn’t disappointing either.
I haven’t seen that. Chicken Run bored me to tears.
Aw. I thought Chicken Run was fun.
