Seems like the early Pixar movies are going Blu-ray in May 2009. Looks like it’s time for me to get a Blu-ray player and upgrade my DVDs.
Who else’s going to upgrade their whole collection of DVDs to Blu-ray? I’m gonna upgrade mine all the way up to WALLE. And I’ve got some Dreamworks and Sony Animations DVDs also. Wonder if I should also upgrade those.
My copy of Finding Nemo was just a little too pixelated for me, even though it’s original and dual layer. Can’t wait to watch it again in HD.
What is Blu-ray anyway? I know I don’t have it. I think I heard that it’s got better picture/ sound. You’re lucky that you’ve got it. Oh, and they’re going Blu-ray in May? That’s when UP comes out!! THIS WAS PLANNED!!!
Blu-ray is, essentially, DVD on steroids. It can hold far more data than a DVD without losing quality. For DVD, the audio had to be compressed a certain way to make sure the movie fit on the disc. This is also what happened to the video image. But with Blu-ray, you’re not losing any of the sound or picture quality. The reason why it’s called a “Blu-ray” disc is because it can only be read with (hmm…) a blue ray. Geez, that sounded kinda corny…
I saw this big video of it at Sears once on a huge LCD TV. It was incredible. They had images from DVD juxtaposed next to images from Blu-ray, and the difference in quality was literally striking. If you ever get a chance, I would reccomend watching either WALL•E or Ratatouille on Blu-ray for a first-time Blu-ray experience.
That’s about all I know. You could probably look up all the stats on Wikipedia or something.
DVD on steroids, hahaha!!! That’s funny!! I understand what a Blu-ray is now, so thanks! And those 2 movie suggestions are probably the best. Thanks again (and by the way, that was kinda corney!!)
I will “update” only selected films once they come out on Blu-Ray. All of Pixar, of course. The original Indiana Jones Trilogy. Amélie. Disney Classics.
And, yes, probably I’ll buy yet another copy of Star Wars, making that my… 6th.
