Thank you, ellie-jessie-eve ObsessedWithPixar! (And I caught the Mater reference by the way, OWP!).
LQstudiesPixar: Merci beacoup, c’est comme Dusty dit, “Genial!” Ça me plaît.
EJE: Sweet mercy, the Taco Bell Chihuahua! I discovered him while making a mash-up for Beverly Hills Chihuahua years ago. But I didn’t know the voice actor was in Reno 911 and Rocko’s Modern Life too!
…
I dunno about you guys, but I’m definitely seeing this in theatres, as I’m a HUGE Cars fan and this looks like another feel-good flick from Disney Animation (which has been on a roll lately).
No, I’m not going to go there, I’m not gonna say it…
Aw nuts.
^Glad to hear that you’ll be on for the ride, TDIT! I know I’ll be for sure!
Got the reference! But all puns aside, Disney really has been on a winning streak these last few years!
I’ll see as we get closer, but if I do see it in theatres, it’d be a couple months after it’s release at the $3 theatre.
OWP: Alriiight! I gotta find out if they have an English version of that French trailer. I’m not expecting a tear-fest like Up or Toy Story 3, since there’s no hint of such a possibility from the plot summary, whereas you know when you read Up (“a retiree attempts to live the wish of his departed wife”) or Toy Story 3 (“the toys are given away to a daycare, where they have to escape and find a new owner”), you just know there’s gonna be some major sad scenes in there.
I’m hoping Planes will take me by surprise like Wreck-It-Ralph (“Broken Karted” scene) and Kung Fu Panda 2 (“Po Remembers” scene) did, where I went in expecting a breezy comedy and came out a sobbing wreck.
Or, at the very least, be a thrill-ride like Cars 2, a rousing adventure with pathos like Rango, or just a fun-filled 1 1/2 hours of beautiful scenery and slapstick humour like The Croods or Rio. I have a gut feel it’s gonna be the third one.
EJE: Well, if you do support Disney in cinemas, good on ya (or on home video, for that matter). I, myself, am gonna see it opening weekend. I have a movie buddy in Singapore (a former intern at my workplace), but so far we’ve only seen live-action flicks. I have more animation-minded friends in Sydney, but even then they’d probably not bother to watch something this “kiddy” (although a good friend of mine who had never seen Cars and watched Cars 2 with me ended up liking it!).
I don’t really do support based on studio, I just see movies that interest me or if they don’t interest me I get a lot of good feedback on.
TDIT: Nice Starfox joke!
I’m not really excited or skeptical on this one. It’s just there I guess.
EJE: Ahhh so desu ne. Well that’s good too, to judge each film on its own merit. I did many rants back in '11 when Cars 2 was coming out and a lot of the fans here were defending it because it’s “made by Pixar”. And the funny thing was, neither of us had seen the film yet and we were squabbling over its merits. But yes, if a friend says it’s good or if I’m personally interested in the characters and storyline, I’d go see it too. But I attach a financial motive to my intentions too cos I believe I “vote with my dollars” (at least, that’s how my brain sees things).
IV: Glad you caught that one! Gotta play it someday.
So Zen!
Yes, that is a very valid point as well.
When I saw this I was very unsure. Almost seems like a ploy to keep Cars going. I will see it regardless, hopin that it has some good points to it. I mean, hey, we could all really enjoy this. For right now, however, Im a bit of a skeptic.
This film will actually not be hard for my family to see. Of all movies to see this year, my dad really wants to see this one, but that’s mostly just because of his love of airplanes. The hard part will be convincing my family to see The Croods, Turbo, and maybe Epic (I think this one will have better luck with that)!
To be, like, totally honest… I’m more pumped for this than Monsters U!
Well, that and Epic and Despicable Me 2. I have a gut feel that Planes will be a pleasant experience like Cars 2 and Rio, but it won’t quite reach the emotional heights of Wall-E or Finding Nemo for me.
Yeah me too. I cant say i’m that interested in seeing it. I’m still very skeptical about it.
For those looking forward to this or hoping for this movie to be good, please check this out in HD if you haven’t already.

Can I get a whoop-whoop from the Cars fans out there?!
Oh my gosh, that sneak preview… I bet it’ll look spectacular on the big screen, in Three-Deee. I like how [spoil]the airport is in the shape of a plane[/spoil].
And what a glowing review by The Rotoscopers! I like how they’re bubbly and enthusiastic about the movie, they remind me of Andre the Black Nerd (my namesake FTW!). This just affirmed my expectations, especially since they sound like Cars fans. 3.5 sounds about right for me.
The one thing I disagree with them? That there’s nothing good coming out in August! Come on girls, there’s Kick-Ass 2, 300: Rise Of An Empire and At World’s End. But yeah, Planes is definitely a must-see in theatres for me that month. I can do without the others and wait for DVD.
Thanks for sharing, LQstudies!
August is definitely an unfortunate month usually for movies. Which stinks since it’s my birth month. Hence, why I’m not only super-excited for Planes just because I’m a big Disney/Pixar/Cars superfan, but it’s also out literally two days before my birthday. Whoop! Whoop!
You guys! So maybe a lot of you might not find this interesting, but it I liked it! Call it cheesy if you want, but I don’t think it was bad. This clip of the female plane, Ishani, was kind of hilarious. I think it was mentioned earlier [spoil]what if the planes sing in it[/spoil], but if it’s comedic, I think I’ll like it!

Seriously, why didn’t they show a bit of this in the trailer?!
Probably won’t change anyone’s mind on this film, but I think this could be at least decent, even if you see it at the $3 theater or just rent it or buy it on DVD. I want to see it August 9 'cause I think I’ll like it, but that’s just me.
Also, is that Keith Ferguson voicing the pitty who asks Ishani the question?
I for one will wait until after I see the movie to see the clip, but I bet it’s great I still have high hopes for this one; it may not be Pixar, but its connection to Pixar is unmistakable, and I can’t see anything from it without getting a little of that Cars-obsessed feeling I had for most of 2011. I think it’ll be good if not great, and really, if it makes me laugh, keeps me interested the entire film, and has a good heart, it’ll be worthwhile. Call me crazy, I’m making a point of catching this one in theaters!
I’m glad you’re waiting OWP, but if there are clips, I need to see them. I can’t wait. I have to watch some to know what I am in for. And if I hadn’t seen this, I might have a slightly stereotypical impression on the movie, and this clip breaks the stereotype of it being just a racing movie. It’s funny.
I used to read the junior novelizations for the movies before actually seeing it. I guess it’s because for all I know, the story in the book could be a lie and it isn’t true until I see it myself in the movie. I also sometimes full plot synopsis of films I haven’t seen yet. I wish spoilers bothered me, but they don’t. Man, what is wrong with me?
LQ: I want to watch it, but it says PRIVATE
