Did anyone see the new trailer for Planet 51? Its a teaser and doesn’t show off much. It doesn’t look as good as Monster House.

I watched it. When I saw the characters I thought seriously?, but It looks pretty cool!
A neat concept coming from the alien point of view when a human “invades” their planet. Could be an interesting movie.
Saw the trailer a few weeks ago. Like the role-reversal! The dog looks like the aliens from Alien! Wonder who the human is though…
Interesting concept, poorly executed IMO. It looks too bright and cheery. The alien’s life is too similar to human life if you ask me. The story would be better with that contrast of a different world.
So basically, turn the humans into aliens and turn the aliens into humans… I see that little switcheroo they’ve done there.
Overall, interesting concept, but the overall film doesn’t look appealing. Poorly executed, and the story looks like it will have a lot of bad puns and childish jokes to make it move forward in the box office.
I hate movies like that
People who make these films think its soo funny to put 10 burps in their movie to make people laugh. One burp is ok but if people have to a minute of burping it drives me crazy…
Thats why i don’t really like Dream Works or Sony.
I changed my mind. This looks like @#%&! I could’nt get enough information from the teaser, but now that I’ve seen trailers it looks like one of those Chicken little films.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, here’s the official website. It just got revamped, but just hold still, don’t do anything, and the newly-released trailer will automatically load. Yes, now you’ll know what it’s actually all about.
Having seen it though, it looks to me like a mix of ET, Terra, The Iron Giant and featuring yet another character who looks like everyone’s favourite robot (sharing similarities in the ‘speech’, wheel threads, and his ‘storage compartment’).
FYI, this will be Spanish-based Ilion Animation Studio’s debut animated feature film. I think it should hold some interest for the sci-fi fans among us here.
I like the concept behind it, but it looks like there’s really nothing unique behind the fact that they’re aliens, which is pretty stupid. I think the only difference there will be is that they have different behaviors like the dog melting the light pole. That’s about all the originality I see in it. Too bad, could have been done well. Probably not gonna go see it.
Edit: Huh, just saw the new trailer. This actually looks pretty good, I’m surprised. The robot is a bit much, but I think this might turn out kinda decent. Sure, it’ll be filled with cliches and corny humor, but the animation looks kinda good and there might be a tiny bit of story in there. I may be a bit too optimistic though. I still stand by my statement that they should have made the aliens much different though, they’re just weird looking humans. Boo
Yeah, can’t say I’m exactly too enthusiastic about this either, ffdude1906, but at least it’s nice to see how other studios are getting along. I also agree they should have gone with a more creative alien design than making them bipedal, upright and humanoid (unless that’s the point, that they’re not much different from us, and we must look like the ‘extra-terrestial’ to them).
Anyway, here’s a cast photo.
I find it weird the guy aliens aren’t wearing pants. Then again, since we don’t know their anatomy, maybe they don’t need to after all.
I watched the trailer a few days ago, and didn’t even finish it either. You know why? Because it looks terrible! Seriously I’m not gonna sit in a room for 90 min. Where there are little kids, or a bunch of normal kids who have butter on there face, and like toilet humor laughing and repeating two people saying What back and forth a million times, or that opening gag in the trailer, which I think is a disgrace to ZZ Top, or one person burping fifty times, and all those kids running around laughing and try to do it themselves.
END
But anyway I never really thought this looked like a good movie anyway but we’ll just see how it goes, 'cause is how I thought of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs with the first trailer. But doubtful.
umm where i have see something like this before?
AH YES!

RIP OFF!
Critics have largely been saying to just skip this one, so…
I’ll probably defy that and rent it when the time comes. It looks like I could have at least a few laughs at it.
Normally I wouldn’t pay this movie much heed either, though I usually like to watch animation from small-time studios to see how other countries are getting on and it provides a nice change from the usual big-times like Dreamworks, Blue Sky and of course, Pixar. But if anything, I’m looking forward to only two things about this movie:
Oh, and the Alien-lookalike dog ain’t too bad, either.
I couldn’t care less about the rest of the movie, which sounds like a mash between The Day The Earth Stood Still, Back to the Future, and Battle for Terra. Though, it’d be interesting to hear The Rock ‘Dwayne’ Johnson and Justin ‘I’m a Mac’ Long’s animated voice role debuts.
The movie has been getting terrible feedback, so I think it’s safe to say this is not an animated film you will miss not seeing.
Planet 51 is a reasonably well-made CG-animated feature that aimed for Pixar-level quality and fell a few notches short. Even so, it’s worth a look to those interested in the offerings of small, independent CG shops like Spain’s Ilion Animation Studios. Overall, it’s about in the ballpark of Chicken Little for quality, although Disney found a bit more genuine heart in their first CG feature than Ilion did.
Most of the story is solid with some minor logical oddities. The plot whizzes along well enough to hold the viewer’s interest. Bathroom humor is present but a bit below average levels for CG-animated features. Like Chicken Little, there’s a whiff of inherent meanness that is not typical of Pixar films. The thematic subtext is a bit more of a puzzle. The quasi-Earth-50s setting seems to hold some commentary about how far we’ve progressed along lines of social tolerance. There’s also, as represented by astronaut Chuck Baker, some possible commentary on the Ugly American. These elements are in the mix but don’t clearly gel, so it’s hard to wrap the brain around them.
As with Tangled, Planet 51 gets points for its non-speaking characters. The “dogs” from Earth (Rover) and Planet 51 (the Alien-esque Ripley) are well and humorously animated show-stealers, especially when they interact. In fact, they may well justify the price of admission (or a borrowing of the film from your local library).
As for Ilion, it remains to be seen whether Planet 51 was sufficiently successful to warrant another CG feature. Ilion’s Web site indicates that a second feature is in work, but no title or plot has been announced. Planet 51 was sufficiently good for a first project that it would be a shame if Ilion fell among the ranks of small, independent studios who tried and failed to achieve a continuous CG feature pipeline.
Cheers! Steve
I rented it. I didn’t hate it, but it was not great. I almost fell asleep. Rover kept me awake…by acting just like Wall-E. Sorry. I:
This was a very forgettable movie for me, and I only watched it a few months ago. I’ll probably still buy a used copy of the DVD for my collection, though.
