Pre-Pixar Planet

Interested in sites that originated before Pixar Planet. What’s their history? Where did they come from? Who made 'em?

(One of the site’s names was I-kronos…or something )

I-Kronos, and later LuxoForums, were run by practically the same people who run Pixar Planet, but Dash is the head honcho now. :sunglasses: I’ll let him tell the story.

~~=oP

You know, I wondered the exact same thing some time ago. I can’t wait to hear Dash’s version of the story.

Well, let me start off by saying that Upcoming Pixar, Luxo Blog, and a number of foreign language sites all pre-date Pixar Planet but I can give you a decent run down of the history of Forums pre-Pixar Planet and ultimately leading up to its inception.

I-Kronos as GD mentioned was the first one. It was a fansite dedicated entirely to The Incredibles with a vast gallery of screen shots and other media bits but most importantly it had a forum (much like the one set up for Monsters Inc, Boggs Board, that we all know and love today) - a huge plus for those of us tired of fighting the flamers and all around idiots over at IMDb. It also gave the advantage that several of us knew one another from the get go and we hit it off real well. It opened in January 2005 and was run by a girl named KenaiW.

I was the fourth member to sign up over there and it grew fast thanks to word of mouth that got around IMDb, Boggs Board, and a number of other places. Less than a week later she PMed me and asked me to serve as the site’s first Moderator since as she put it I was close to her age and obviously very dedicated and responsible. About a week or so after that we brought on a second moderator (we were already about 40-50 members strong) named Bomb Voyage who later changed her name to TonyLoaf.

Over the course of the following months we added two additional moderators, KyrieEleison and then vimfuego as we grew to and maxed out around 120 or so members. The Summer is where things really started to change though. The site in general pretty much fell apart save the forums which were mostly being run by the four of us. Kenai had taken the home page down and directed it so that the url pointed directly to the forum. She also would disappear for months at a time without telling us and leaving us to take care of things on our own. We even made alternate plans including keeping a secret Yahoo Group site in case she never came back and the site shut down. Needless to say we didn’t publicize this for fear that people would try something since we didn’t have power to ban people or anything of that sort and we’d had some trouble with a couple of nuisance members already.

Early in the Summer, vim introduced me and TL to a friend of hers named Mell_O_Drama who had set up an Incredibles RP forum of her own where we would all get together. I played Mr. Incredible, TL played Elastigirl, and it was all based in the Glory Days. If I remember right, vim was Frozone while Mell was Gamma Jack and they had quite the on going feud. It was fun while it lasted but unfortunately it was also short lived due to a lack of time for us all.

In the middle of the Summer, Kenai decided to promote the four of us (me, TL, KE, and vim) to administrators by her side. As a side note it was in August of that year that ToxicFoxx (later to be known as PixarVixen) joined in which one thing led to another causing me and her to become very close. coughcough

That December, the five of us (Kenai, me, TL, KE, and vim) all had a sit down and decided that the site needed to undergo some changes. She had long had a lot of plans that she wanted to do but just never seemed to come to fruition. But we had all decided that we weren’t gaining many new memebers and active membership was almost dead and much of that was due to the nostalgia of The Incredibles wearing off now more than a year after its release. We all agreed the only way to continue was to move to all of Pixar and (after about a week of downtime) opened up LuxoForums in mid-December.

Things went well, it had been a mostly fresh start though we’d carried over all of the members. I believe we ultimately topped out around 200 or so there. But again, nothing really came to fruition and things continued as they had been only now focused on all of Pixar rather then just The Incredibles. Kenai finally disappeared again around the beginning of Summer and as we had feared, the site just disappeared around mid-June. We’ve never heard from her since.

We tried for a couple of weeks to contact her to no avail. We then sat down and discussed our options. I knew I wanted to do everything in my power to keep it going. The answer was also a resounding yes when I asked TL, KE, and vim the same thing. I remembered Mell had done such a marvelous job on the RP site and had vim ask if she would like to help make the new site a reality. She said yes resoundingly too and thus the new Brain Trust was formed. As second in command of Luxo Forums I assumed the leadership role in the group and I believe the rest takes us into the history of this site which you can read all about in our History section from the main page.

I believe I got everything. A lot of the members here have been with us for a good chunk of it esp pitbulllady and a few others who aren’t so frequent but if you guys can remember anything else or can remember the numbers a bit better than I can feel free to chime in.

Most of the members here have stuck with the admins ever since IK. I can remember all of those great times. And those great games as well.

It is nice to reflect Dash.

Dash - Wow. It’s almost like…a history of Pixar Animation Studios all over again, only fairly more condensced. 'Tis a shame that you never did manage to contact administrator Kenai again. Perhaps she’ll turn up one of these days and say “hello” to you all?

Great story. I loved reading it.

Hey, you know, I wouldn’t be surprised if she is one of the “guests” who browses PP everynow and then to see how much we grown.
