Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time

Holy crap, I saw the trailer a few days ago, and I’ll just repeat what others have been saying: it is absolutely breathtaking! I mean, it has the same ‘mood’ and ‘feel’ as Pirates, and Ms Arteton looks drop-dead gorgeous! Jake Gyllenhal has a very ‘Jack Sparrow’ vibe with the wise-*ss quips, and some of you may recognise the villain as Alfred Molina, aka Dr. Octopus from Spiderman 2! When I showed this to my animation friends, they were similarly impressed by the CGI. It’s seamless! One of my friends commented that they should have picked a younger-looking and ‘less uglier’ guy to play the title role, but I think Mr Gyllehnhal looks okay with his five o’clock shadow and matted hair. Seriously, I think the ‘pretty-boy’ look would not fit here!

But yeah, I’m quite excited. It’s been a long time since we had an adventure epic. The closest one at the moment is probably Avatar (which just released another wicked trailer, Gaaah!!!), but next summer looks to be pretty entertaining!

I can’t wait for this! It looks like it has the possibility of being the next Pirates of the Caribbean.

Hm…well, I guess that’s why IGN picked it as one of the best trailers this winter!

They are definitely going for the same exact feel that made Pirates so awesome, so I do hope it’s a success…

TDT - Avatar made it in there too

Alright, awesome! I also discovered the third trailer for Sherlock Holmes thanks to that article. Thank you, CoCoMeister!

Anyway, yeah, so excited for this movie. That, Iron Man 2 and Toy Story 3 should make my summer next year.

Okay, I now officially approve of this upcoming film.

Very true! This will be a good movie to kick off the summer with

Here’s a new poster of Jake aka Prince Dastan. I feel like he kinda looks like the Prince on the cover of the Prince of Persia games.

Please excuse the double post, but a couple new videos with some new footage from the movie is out:

First, my main man Jake debut some footage at the Spike Video Game Awards (most of it is from the original trailer but there’s some new stuff):

There’s also a behind-the-scenes look at his character Dastan with some snippets of pretty cool action sequences:

I have to say, I love everything I’m seeing so far. Definitely looks like a good fun ride!

Just reviving the thread because the movie comes out this month! I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve really liked everything I’ve seen so far (especially all the Jake photos ) What do you guys think - first of Jerry Bruckheimer’s blockbuster this summer?

I can’t wait too, CoCoMeister! This and TSA should make Mr Bruckheimer a tidy profit this summer.

Brand new featurette on the princess character. The henna tattoos are a nice touch, but poor Ms Arteton has to endure 3 hours of makeup for 'em! :open_mouth:

Princess Tamina featurette

And just for laffs, here’s an insanely hilarious trailer dub that takes the Mickey (Disney reference intended) out of this epic film.

Prince of Persia Trailer Dub

After many rewatchings, that snake at 2:08 always, always kills me. 8D

“Might as well have a robot direct this thing.”

“If you ask me, a robot directing this, would make it a lot more interesting.”

Hmm… I can think of one candidate, fellow Pixar fans…

LOL - thanks for dubbed trailer! You might also like this very meticulously done LEGO Trailer. Love Ben Kingsley’s lego counterpart!

I’ve seen one good review so far on Ain’t It Cool:

Always good to hear

Really cool, CoCoMeister! Though I was disappointed they didn’t go all the way and finish the rest of the trailer.

As for Ain’t It Cool’s review, I always take their ravings with a pinch of salt. Almost all bad movies would take quotes from Harry on the back of their DVD covers, but not all of Harry’s quotes are on the back covers of bad movies’ DVDs.

You get what I mean? But a useful first impression to measure your expectations.

True…well, we all shouldn’t really live and die by reviews, right? They are just that - a measurement of expectations. That being said, I have been reading some pretty good things about the movie…the main thing that stands out is that it’s a good, entertaining, fun action movie. I think that’s really what they set out to do (at least, that’s what I think Jerry Bruckheimer ALWAYS sets out to do). So I’ll see - the movie doesn’t come out for another two weeks yet!

So, I gotta say, I loved this movie . I mean, it’s not as good as Pirates of the Caribbean, but it’s not as bad as G-Force. There were a few parts where it did kinda get a little boring, but I think that overall, the movie was wonderful  My second favorite behind live action movie after at World’s End! So, if you haven’t seen it yet- I highly recommend it!

Yay! I’m glad you liked the movie woody! I have to agree - I thought it was a pretty entertaining. I wasn’t really expecting anything more than that, and it is definitely a good, summer popcorn flick. I liked Jake Gyllenhaal in the part - not only because he looked really good doing all the action scenes, but also because he makes a pretty likable action star in general

Great reviews, you two! I was hoping it would top or be as good as POTC, but it appears it ain’t bad either. One of my mates asked me to watch it tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll have tons of fun on my little trip to Persia!

As with many movies nowadays, I’ve done my best to avoid the hype on this one. What I’ve seen so far looks very promising, in a cheesy action romp kind of way. I intend to see it tomorrow, and I’m sure it will be the best video game movie ever (which isn’t saying much, but it is saying something).

I think I want to see it…but I only get to see 1-2 movies a year, and I’ve already seen Dragons, and I’m saving #2 for Toy Story 3, so I’m screwed. :frowning:

Is this a parental permission thing, Incredigirlvirginia? Cos’ you can always use the excuse- I mean, reason, that you need to socialise with your friends, and going to the movies is one of the ways to do that. It’s my ‘Get out of jail free’ card, or rather, my ‘Get into the cinema’ card, but it’s true since my friends are movie buffs anyway.

If it’s a financial thing, maybe you could convince your parents to do chores for a couple of cents. Enterprising kids in America do this all the time and get away with it!

It just doesn’t interest me.

I want to see it.
