I cannot wait for this movie to come out! It’s produced by action producer Jerry Bruckheimer of previous Pirates of the Caribbean fame. (he’s also producing the new Disney movie G-Force out this weekend! ) It’s directed by Mike Newell who all you Harry Potter fans know as the director of Goblet of Fire ! It’s based off the extremely popular Prince of Persia video games. Most notably the Sands of Time trilogy.
This movie will be coming out May 28th, 2010! here are the first official pictures and posters.
The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia and the very attractive Gemma Anderson as the mysterious princess Tamina!
Looks pretty neat, kinda got the same vibe as pirates. Jake’s a pretty good actor, it should be interesting to see how Prince translates to the big screen. I hadn’t even heard about this til now, thanks for the info, I’ll have to go see it at some point!
I absolutely adore the game, and have completed it many times, and part of its appeal for me are the characters themselves- they’re quirky, imperfect and therefore a bit more believable than your usual video game fare. This is where I start getting worried, though, as I can’t help but wonder whether Jake Gyllenhaal is going to capture the essence of his character well enough. I’ll probably go and see it though, just out of curiosity more than anything, as the game did always have that sort of movie-like feel to it that suggested it could translate well onto the big screen.
Thanks for sharing that information with us, woody! I hadn’t seen the posters yet.
well if it makes you fell any better lizardgirl, Jordan Mechner who created and developed Sands of Time is heavily involved in the production of the movie! I’m sure he wouldn’t take it far from the video game.
Its just a shame woody that they’ve gone for the Warrior Within Costume and not the original Sands of Time one
This movie has been much of a debate with friends I gotten through the net at various other locations… with the main point being
However an interesting shot was fried back…
Think before 2003… How many Pirate movies were actually interesting? and how different were they?
Bruckheimer took the Genre and a Theme Park Ride (I would get killed for calling it a ride other places as it is an Attraction) and created something that is spurning rumors of a 4th… It made the genre sing…
Who’s at the helm of POP… The magician behind Sparrow! So Who Knows… I’m one for it although I don’t think they’ve cast the prince right!
I just saw the poster today on Rotten Tomatoes, as a matter of fact.
It’s been a long time since we had an epic adventure movie (some may argue Up was probably the last one, but I mean live-action like Pirates, or Lord of the Rings). The last few like Indy 4 and Golden Compass has been disappointing to say the least, so to see the return of the big-screen journey to faraway lands right at the beginning of summer next year has got me absolutely interested!
I mean, the poster looks freakin’ epic! And like some others said, it gives off that ‘Pirates’ vibe, although it reminds me more of traditionally-animated Dreamworks films like Sinbad or El Dorado.
I think this, along with The Last Airbender should be next year’s consolation for this summer’s disappointingly mediocre summer season so far.
I’m getting the ‘buzz’, but I think I’ll wait for the trailer before I make a pre-judgement. But I’m very excited for a trailer now!
Oh, and I voted ‘Yes’. It’s by Disney, it’s based on a successful video game that may just prove the exception to its genre of mediocrity, and I don’t hate/like Mr Gyllenhaal or Ms Anderson.
I agree with everyone here, I think that they’ve got the right guy behind this movie in Jerry Bruckheimer, and the fact that they got input from the game’s creator speaks really highly of Disney and Bruckheimer and their desire to translate this movie onto the big screen the right way. If anybody can make an epic action-adventure movie, it’s him. I also think the cast is pretty amazing – Sir Ben Kingsley is the villain in this, and personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with him in ANY film. And I LOVE Jake Gyllenhaal – in anything: Drama, thriller, disaster movies, comedy, and now action-adventure – I think he’ll add that extra depth to the character, instead of just being your average generic action hero that we’re so used to seeing in these video game movie adaptations. And he makes for pretty good eye candy too
Obviously, we’d all have to see the trailer to back up our excitement, but I did read a description of it (they previewed it at D23) and it sounds every bit as epic as the video game. This really could be that exception to the norm!
You’re welcome, woody! I remember watching my brother play the game (I tried but I’m not great at those role playing games) and thinking it would make for a good movie. I’m pretty excited to see the trailer too. Most of the people who saw the unfinished version at D23 seemed to think that it looked pretty close to done, so hopefully we will get to see it for ourselves soon
Lol, oops I told you, I’m obviously I’m not an avid game player, unless it’s Wii sports Leave that stuff up to my brother!
Well, if anyone else wants to know more details (whether it’s obscure & irrelevant or more general) about the movie, Disney’s giving you the chance to do so. You can submit any questions you have to Jerry Bruckheimer & Jordan Mechner on the movie’s Facebook page. They’ll pick a couple questions a day and then answer them via a video message. Kinda cool that you could be having a “virtual” conversation with the filmmakers, right?
And it looks like all kind of epic - the scenery/landscapes, the action (I don’t know much about video games but I know that there was a lot of jumping), and I even like the witty banter between Jake Gyllenhaal & Gemma Ayerton. What do you guys think?
Actually that looks pretty cool, I was a little apprehensive as I didn’t think the game would make all that good a film (the Prince spends much of his time alone, there are only 3 living characters for the majority of it and only one environment) but it looks like the story’s been changed considerably.
I was most definitely impressed! I read an interview w/ Mechner and Bruckheimer about the movie - pretty good read about how they adapted the game, what elements they decided to keep, how they changed the story to fit the movie, etc. I think they did everything they could to avoid the pitfalls of the video game movie adaptation…and so far, looks like it’s worked!
Definitely looking forward to it. It seems like they’ve hit all the right notes based on the trailer, though I’m trying to remain cautiously optimistic.
That trailer made me even more excited for this film! Although did you guys notice how it said Disney presents not Walt Disney Pictures presents? that kinda bothered me.
