Pronunciation & Punctuation

How do you spell and pronounce WALL•E? See, the • is not on my keyboard, so I actually have to do a Google search to find the dot to use it every time i talk about WALL•E in typing. I usually see most peple use - instead of •. I’ve also seen a larger version of the dot. As for pronunciation, we know it’s /wɒli/, but which syllable is accented, and do you pronunce the dot as a space or ignore it completely as say it like Wally?
I was wondering what you think of WALL•E’s pronunciation and punctuation.

I always punctuate it with a hyphen (-) instead of a dot because, truth be told, I’m not at all certain how to display that dot onto the screen. I believe that the dot is the correct way to go, though. Heheh.

As for pronunciation, I pronounce it as “Wahl-ee’”, with the ‘e’ accented more-so than the ‘a’. I suppose that everyone has their own way of saying it, however. I’m guessing that the right way to blurt it out would be the way WALL-E himself pronounced it in the teaser trailer of the film with the same name.

Sorry if I couldn’t be of more help. I hope you solve your problem!

I love the way WALL•E pronounced it in the trailers. So cute!

W-W-W-WAALL•E:laughing:

To type the WALL•E dot, I hold Alt while pressing 0 1 4 9 on the right side of my keyboard.

PV - Hm. For some reason, it doesn’t seem to work for me.

I used to type “WALL-E” simply because I was too lazy to open the character map, but now I type “WALL●E” because it’s the right thing to do.

The little robot actually says his name as more of a “Wah-ah-Lee”, with three syllables. Heheh. I pronounce WALL●E as “Wah-Lee” , even though the most natural way of saying it in my Australian accent would be “Wal-ee”.

My sister pronounces it the same as me too, because I’ve told her to.

Press Num Lock first.

If you are using a Mac you just need to go “Alt-8”.

A-ha. Triumph reigns…

Thank you very much, bawpcwpn! I’d been meaning to learn that for ages.

But back on-topic…

Hooray!

But why is my dot bigger? And which one is the correct one to use for the title…?

I assume there are two kinds of dots.

This is the size of my dot: •

I use an HP laptop with no number pad on the right…So I have no idea how to use the symbols. XD

Sheila and I have simply been pronouncing WALL•E like “Wally”. And as for the dot, we never knew how to make it, until now. (Thank you PV and bawpcwpn. )

ashley

I just pronounce WALL-E like the words are given to me (wall + E)

Pv and bawpcpwn (I’ll learn to to spell sometime): Thanks you guys so very much!

WALL•E! WALL•E! WALL•E!

Sorry, I’m better now.

Please refrain from using excessive smileys.

I say Wall-E like Wall and then the letter E. I know it’s meant to be like Wally, but due to habit I just say it and think it like Worl-E instead of Wahl-E. And I can never be bothered to use the dot.

It’s been a while since I saw the trailer, but if I remember right, the computer voice of Wall-E sounds almost like “oo-ah-lee” (almost a “u” sound at the beginning).

As for how to make the Wall-E “dot” on your computer… in order to make that special character, perhaps you need to buy your computer from the folks at Buy-N-Large…

Really? :open_mouth: How much would that cost?

(I’m still saving up for a GAR•E)

So that’s what the short cut is! I’ve also been too lazy to search for that dot but now that I know, I may use it more often. let’s see: WALL•E. Check that out! It worked!

Thanks, PV! We’re all freaking out about the dot shortcut!
