Puss in Boots (2011)

My dad is taking us to see this for my sister’s birthday. Allow me to cautiously say I’m excited.

Have you seen How to Train Your Dragon or the Kung Fu Panda films?

Well, I’ve seen those except for the 2nd Kung Fu Panda. What I probably meant to say was the first Dreamworks film that was related to any Shrek characters.

So who here plans to see this movie? I do!

I do! Hopefully around Thanksgiving I’ll get a chance to see it. If not, I could always wait for the DVD to come.

More clips!

First off: the Cat Premiere on the red carpet with Antonio youtube.com/watch?v=GG1cbK_ZhEE

And three film clips! The first one is with Lady Gaga’s “Americano” and shows us a little more of the relationship between Kitty Softpaws and Puss youtube.com/watch?v=udEoIshpy3c

And two straight film clips, one in the bar scene from the trailers youtube.com/watch?v=M3qRiw4eMVk

And one with Humpty Dumpty youtube.com/watch?v=vsk2fr_c9-Q

I am REALLY digging the tone of the movie from the last few clips. It kind of has a spaghetti western vibe to it.

Thanks for those clips! I’m excited for this film as it has the potential to be one of Dreamworks’ best films.

Oh wow! I loved all those clips! I am so stoked for this movie.

Thanks for the clips.

This could be quality Dreamworks product. This character was the best thing about the Shrek films.

Not much longer now. Anyone going on opening day?

Probably not since I don’t like to go to movies on opening day.

I want to see this, actually. :open_mouth:

I think I would be upset if this film gets bad reviews. I mean, this is probably another one of those films that I highly anticipate and it would be disappointing to see it get negative reviews like Cars 2.

I might, depends which day works best for my friend.

A streetwise, slender black cat with white markings (including white eyebrows) who tries to hide the fact that she’s been declawed (although it’s implied by her name) and reluctantly develops affection for the main character.

Kitty Softpaws and Mittens…separated at birth?!

Full review to come…

Hopefully, I’ll get to see this film today. Expect a review if I do see it.

Man, now that I’ve seen the Mittens comparison, I think Disney may have a case for a lawsuit.

Anyway, just saw the film. Liked it better than Kung Fu Panda 2, maybe about the same as Rio. There’s a lot of terrific looking setpieces, the story was good enough to keep me engaged, and the characters all had a nice chemistry with each other. Not really memorable enough to rise it to Rango status, though. I’d give it a B+

Nice little review there! How did Dreamworks do with their humor in this? Like if there were any pop-culture references or not.

There’s a few pop culture references, but they’re the kind that can be easily ignored if you don’t understand them. The thing I wasn’t a big fan of was some of the more off-color humor like references to prison rape and bestiality. I can’t imagine those going over very well with any audience.

Yeah, I did notice the little prison rape joke in one of the trailers. I think Humpty was the one who said it. I don’t mind a few pop-culture jokes but when they overdue them like Shrek 2, is what irritates me.
