PV, CA, S&S, etc

Greetings guys! PV here, and I haven’t posted since…checks profile…yikes, January. You must wonder what has happened to me since then.

Near the end of Winter, I became deeply depressed mainly because I was living so far away from my boyfriend, and he had moved to Los Angeles to share an apartment with his best friend. I decided to move out on my own and live with them.

On March 24 I flew to Burbank and was greeted by this banner:

Life in California was pretty scary at first and I grew homesick, but I persevered.

Within 10 days of my arrival I acquired a job at the GameStop located at Universal Studios Hollywood. Of course, I’m also pursuing a career in animation.

As you may imagine, Up advertisements are plastered everywhere. This banner hangs on the side of a building next to my bank:

Speaking of Pixar-related things, I recently attended the opening reception for The Ancient Book of Sex and Science by Scott Morse, Lou Romano, Don Shank, and Nate Wragg. You can read my blog post for more info about the book, and I posted photos of the event below.

The event was held at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA:

Viewing the pieces in person was a real treat. Certain textures were further appreciated, like on Scott Morse’s “Cheap Whore” for example:

I met all 4 featured artists and a few special guests, although I’m bummed I missed Peter Sohn and Ronnie del Carmen before they left. They couldn’t have been nicer guys. Despite the constant flow of fans, they took time to chat with everybody:

The line to meet Nate Wragg was very long, so we went to eat dinner while waiting for the crowd to die down:

…and eventually we met him:

In addition to the collection of autographs we got with our copy of S&S:

…Don Shank and Lou Romano signed my copy of The Art of The Incredibles:

…and Nate Wragg doodled Remy inside my Your Friend the Rat Little Golden Book!:

So yeah, that’s my story up to this point. My activity online has been extremely minimal, but I read Upcoming Pixar whenever I have a chance. I probably won’t be able to moderate the forum anymore, but I will try to report on special events here in California.

Props to the rest of the Pixar Planet staff who have been taking care of the site.

Later!

Glad to hear that things are going well for you PV! I can imagine how scary a move to CA would be at first! I plan on moving there once I am done with college… better place to pursue animation than in the midwest! And that is so cool you got to meet all those amazing artists! Another reason why CA is a great place to be!

Congrats on surviving a big move and best of luck to you!

Wow, PixarVixen, sounds like its been a pretty big transition for you. Its cool that you got a job at the Universal Studios area. It also must have been awsome to get those signatures.

Anyways, welcome back!

Thanks for the update, PixarVixen. I was wondering where you’d gotten to. Glad things are looking more promising for you. What a treat that would have been to meet all of those Pixarians at the art show. Did you tell any of them that you’re one of the co-founders of Pixar Planet? Or did you keep that on the hush-hush?

It’s so cool to see you back on the boards, PV! It sounds like you’ve had an amazing time full of changes and meeting cool people since you last posted though. Living in California must be amazing! Especially if there are lots of those sorts of art events going on where you get to meet people like Lou Romano.

Welcome back to the boards!

I remember your Wall-E cinema lobby door thread from a few months back, PV, so welcome back!
Wow, if only they had as large a scale of outdoor advertising for a Pixar movie in Sydney! I guess since California is the home of Pixar, that they could afford such a spectacular banner!
Great that you had the sigs from several Pixarians! I’m sooo jealous!
Anyway, it’s good to be back, ain’t it? Just like home.

can’t wait to hear more about california!

PV: It is always a pleasure seeing you back on the boards, even if you are just on for a few checking us out. So much has happened in your life since your last visit. Good luck in California.

Welcome to California, PixarVixen! That’s sweet that you moved out here to be with your boyfriend. It’s beyond understandable that life here may seem a bit forbidding, but there are a lot of nice and amiable people in California, and there’s plenty to see and do, so you’ll get used to it soon enough.

It’s nice to see you back on the boards again, if but only for a brief moment. We all miss you, but it’s good to know that you’re faring well!

Lucky you for getting to meet Nate Wragg, Lou Romano, Scott Morse, and Don Shank. Such great guys, signing your books and everything. Pixarians are the best, man.

Again, welcome to the sunny state!

Ha-ha! Are you serious? I live, like, forty-five minutes away from there! I’ll have to meet up with you one of these weekends or something. Do you work on Saturdays and/or Sundays, if I may ask?

– Mitch

P.S. I love your WALL•E shirt. (heheh)

Welcome back PV! you probably don’t remember me, but I remember you from all the older Radio Pixar episodes. Hope you’re doing well in Cali!

Thanks for the warm welcome back, guys!

rachelcakes…
Funny you should mention it, because I didn’t. Heheh. I felt we were in attendance to show our support for their book, so I let my friends do most of the talking, and they talk art 24/7.

We’re going to see Ronnie del Carmen this Saturday. It’ll be a more appropriate environment for bringing up Pixar Planet.

thedriveintheatre…
It’s cool that you remember that. =) Peeling my paintings off of the doors was depressing, but my boss gave me the WALL•E movie poster from the theater as a reward.

disneydutchess…
Well, I can tell you which 2 celebrities I’ve come across so far.

One day while running errands, I randomly decided to eat at a nearby McDonald’s. The restaurant was full of elderly people, so nobody else recognized the annoyingly familiar girl who entered. Yup. Of all the McDonald’s in all of California, Miley Cyrus had to walk into mine. Haha. I kid you not.

And yesterday actually happened to be the day I met voice actress Tara Strong at GameStop. She approached me at the counter where I proceeded to help her adorable sons trade for new Nintendo DSis. I was super nervous carrying out the transaction and tried maintaining a somewhat calm level of fangirliness. I mean, Bubbles is my favorite Powerpuff Girl! Luckily Tara was a real sweetheart.

Mitch…
No way! We definitely hafta meet sometime! I will PM you.

Oh, and I found my shirt at, oddly enough, Hot Topic. Glad you like it. =)

I’m sorry for my late reply. Again, my activity online is minimal with 2 roommates hanging around. The best time for me to access the internet is whenever I’m home alone.

I updated my profile. I have yet to make my new sig, but first I need to learn how to use my friend’s scanner.

4 days till Up!

Later!

You mean we’ll see you around here more often? That’s cool. I look forward to your posts. I was just gonna ask where you got that WALL-E t-shirt from. wants Ok, that’ll be cool to actually tell a Pixarian about Pixar Planet. We’re slowly bridging the gap, people…

Thanks for the response, PV! Good luck with your animation project. =D

What did Tara Strong sound like in real life, PV? I’ve always wondered since she does so many different types of voices when playing her characters, but I always imagined her to be as squeaky as Bubbles. And you got to see Miley Cyrus! I’m surprised that she didn’t have a gaggle of fans surrounding her at all times, considering her recent rise to fame.

Yay! That’d be so cool if you could tell a Pixarian about Pixar Planet! I always thought we should have Pixar Planet business cards or something, all professional, to help spread the word.

I look forward to seeing you around more often.

PixarVixen - Thanks for the PM! I’m gonna make it a point to visit you one of these moons.

You got your shirt at Hot Topic?! I wonder why I never saw it in the same store in my area? Lucky you. Heheh. Thanks for the link, in any case, and you’re welcome!

Ha! You saw Miley Cyrus in a McDonald’s complex? That’s great.

By the way, when you meet Ronnie del Carmen, ask him if Pixar is going to open up a 2-D department. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, and I love your “Location”.

lizardgirl - Concerning the business cards idea: Dude, I never thought of that! We’re gonna have to take that proposition into further consideration.

– Mitch

As soon as my blog is ready, I won’t need this thread any longer. Heheh.

lizardgirl…
Tara Strong’s normal speaking voice sounds like Princess Clara from Drawn Together. Search YouTube and you’ll find her.

I wanted to share photos of Ronnie del Carmen’s recent Up presentation:

Ronnie explains the origin of this painting from 4:30 of part 6 to 0:22 of part 7 of my video:

You can watch all 10 parts on my YouTube channel PixarVixenpresents.

Here is the man behind the book about the dog hunting for the bird:

I kept my promise and asked Ronnie if he had ever visited Pixar Planet, and after hearing he had indeed seen our forum, I introduced myself as its co-creator. He kinda spoke for the studio when he gave us support for supporting them.

Anyway, here I am with my boyfriend Robert:

Ronnie signed our copies of The Art of Up and My Name Is Dug:

Later I told Robert I was hoping he would also draw Dug. Robert pointed to the illustration on the page and told me he already did. Haha.

I will have time to post my review of Up tomorrow. Gotta go!

You look so pretty!Nice hair, wanna trade for short hair? L.O.L

Hey PV Great to see and read about all the awesome things you have been doing lately!
I hope you have a great time in Callifornia with your boyfriend and find a job as a animation artist, your art deserves it!

P.s. I have send you a message trough AIM about a week ago, dunno if you still use it tough but I was clearing up my list.

PixarVixen - Wow. Awesome! Thank you very much for sharing those pictures with us! It looks as though you had a great time, as did your boyfriend.

PV, you’re a gem. Thank you so much for taping the session! I’ll get to watching it as soon as I have some free time.

That is righteous, dude.
