question about the trailer

I just love Michael’s

score for the Japanese trailer- when Linguini is talking to Remy in the jar.

Yeah, I love Mr. Giacchino’s score for the Asian

trailer, as well. Almost sounded a little “Alan Silvestri”-ish when Remy ran away from

Linguini…

It makes me wonder. Brad Bird was featured in the Teaser. Will he play a part in the real

movie?

Brad bird played a fairly important part in

The Incredibles as Edna, so I think it’s obvious he would have some role in

Ratatouille The question then becomes what kind of character and of what importance

his character plays.

Now, we’ve already seen him as the waiter in the teaser…so that waiter could be

some sort of background or “secondary” character. But I personally doubt it – at the point in

production when a teaser is made, most of the contracts are not completely finalised, making me believe he was

just “filling in” as a voice. If I were a betting man, I’d say he’s some rat we meet, possibly a

friend of Django’s, a neighbor, or a rat that plagues Gustaeu’s when Remy comes

along…kind of like Sid from Flushed Away.

I actually heard that Brad Bird does, indeed, voice a very minor role as a "wimpy

guy" in the film. Just a backround character, I believe…

Oh, heheh

I see. I need to get caught up on all these spoilers!

Mitch - I still

hopeing that Brad voices the “Big French Waiter” as well as the “wimpy guy”.

Gasduude - Heheh – no

sweat. We’ll just have to see if we can recognize Brad’s voice in the film.

JV - Yeah, me too!

Mitch -

Heck, were’nt you going to pm someone (Maggie?) all you know so far? Could you do the same for me? Pretty

Please!

I wanna know it all! :sunglasses:

I would imagine that he might play the same waitor in the movie.

Here’s a good question:

What other family members does Remy have?

So, we know he has a dad (Django) and one brother (Emile). He obviously has to have a mom, but we’ve recieved no mention of her anywhere. Maybe that’s one twist of the story we don’t know yet: Remy’s mom was killled or someting before the time the movie takes place. It’d be interesting…

Who knows!

Gasduude - Heheh – good question! Yeah, I’ve wanted to know what happened to Remy’s mom for a long time. Maybe she got “snapped” or something… And what about Remy’s other brothers and sisters, if he has any? So far, it looks like it’s just Emile, Django, and him.

I have a question, as well:

Does Remy ever actually talk to Linguini?

So far, the only characters we have seen Remy talk to are Emile, Django, and ghost Gusteau (who obviously seems to understand his “rat talk”). I wonder if Remy either doesn’t want to reveal to the other humans that he can talk, or Linguini and everybody else simply can’t understand Remy? Hmm…

Hey, now that’s a good question!

I say no. Here’s why:

In the trailer we see Remy and his family talking to each other right underneath that table…why wouldn’t the humans be able to hear them? Unless you say their speaking quiet enough the humans ears can’t hear 'em, it seems as if the rats are speaking another “language”…just “translated” for our viewing pleasure.

Now Remy can obviously “understand” what Linguini’s saying, but that doesn’t mean Remy can speak English.

But I’ve been wrong before!

Gasduude - Hehe – yeah, you’re probably right. And table? I think Remy and his dad were talking to each other in the sewer; they just cut to a quick shot of Remy being “crushed” underneath a table in the main diner of Gusteau’s! restaurant.

But yeah, I agree in that Remy understands the human language…but can’t speak it directly. Kinda weird, but cool!

Mitch – Oops! I need to download a higher resoloution trailer!

On the other hand, it might be kind of hard being the “greatest chef in Paris” if you can’t talk to each other…so I have as much chance of being right as anybody!

Do you think the guy riding the bicycle in the North American trailer became surprised (and subsequently crashed ) because he heard Remy speak, because he saw Remy perform that gesture, or both?

CountSolo – I don’t think Remy was speaking at that paticular moment, so I’d have to say the gesture. I could be wrong, but…

He’s ridin’ his bicycle down the street and sees this rat point cockily at him…he can’t believe what he just saw, so he continues looking until it’s too late! :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha – no sweat! And yeah, I’m not sure how Remy will accomplish his goal if he doesn’t communicate to Linguini in some way; but then again, anything is possible for Pixar! We’re just gonna have to wait and see.

CountSolo - Hey yeah, I forgot about that part! Either the guy recognized both oddities (Remy speaking and Remy gesturing), or he just couldn’t believe his eyes at seeing a rat walking upright down a sidewalk…and then “hey”-ing at him at the same time.
