Rac_Rules's Movie Reveiws

I love writing reviews (in fact my second job choice after a Pixar director is a movie critic) so I decided to start writing my reviews on here.

The Golden Compass- Oky doky. This was not a very well written film. If you did not read the book, you will not understand 65% of it, probably more. The only reason I wasn’t going “Huh?” the whole time was because I had a sister who read it right next to me. It pretty much depends on special effects, which are very good, but story wise not great. I did see some points that I felt where simply “borrowed” from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (such as Lyra riding on the polar bears back, put in slow motion, slowly paneling from behind to front. Sound familiar?) (For those who don’t remember, pretty much the same type of scene was used when Lucy and Susan where riding Aslan’s back) Also, my sister said they left out a lot. She especially hated that they left out the “big finish” that reveals the whole purpose of the first book, though she wouldn’t tell me what it is.

For those things about the church, it did not attack Christianity as much as it was made out to. I am Christian, but I was only mildly offended by it. It was only saying that Christianity is not perfect, even though some Christians think it is, and that we sometimes do the wrong thing when we think it’s right. Also, there are people in the Church that are not as holy as they say they are, both of which are true. It seemed kinda more antagonistic then atheist. (For those who don’t know the difference, Antagonistic means you believe in God but decide not to worship him in a formal way, Atheist means you don’t believe in Gods at all).
