Yay Brad Bird! So far, the film is at the top of the list. I hope it stays that way… ![]()
Thanks for the information, Bill!
I was a little let down by the opening weekend. I thought it would at least be in the 50- 59 million range but, hey, most people got to see it at one of the 843 preview screenings.
Well, if you look at it relativly, 40+ million is not bad for any movie. We were just hoping for a blockbuster - which unfortunatly didn’t happen…
Note it is also currently the highest rated movie at BoM of all-time. Meaning Brad Bird has the two highest rated movies of all time at BoM - Ratatouille at #1 and The Incredibles at #13.
Wow that is very impressive!!!
What I don’t get with this whole opening weekend thing is, in the case of Ratatouille, it’s being released around the world at different times, but with some other films, they can be released worldwide on the same day. So does the opening weekend always account just for the amount made in America, or worldwide?
At least Ratatouille didn’t do poorly, and as has been said previously, they’re in it for the long haul.
lizardgirl - As far as I know, those numbers only mean American revenue.
Ratatouille did a wonderful job! Impressive fir an opener.
Anybody think it can hold up against Transformers?
Gasduude - That would be a long shot but it’s certainly possible. Transformers is one of the most anticipated movies this summer. I predict that Ratatouille will be in second or third place for this weekend, and, of course, I will be providing box office updates for everyone.
Bill - Yeah, it does seem like a long shot. Transformers has alot of marketing behind it! But there’s still hope! crosses fingers
Good. I’m lazy!

I must say that maybe transfromers might out do Ratatouille a little bit. Though it will never match Pixar’s passion and heart in its movies, the special effects and the action in Transformers just might blow people away.
Sorry guys, but Transformers will totally grab that #1 spot without a problem… that movie has been in talks everywhere.
Interesting. I knew it was #1 this past weekend (okay, I saw it twice on opening day) but I did want to know how it fared against Pixar’s other films, most specifically Cars. Looks like it was a little lower than Cars initially but hardly what I’d call a disapointment. I am glad it made it to #1 though, that’s great! I’m really glad I havent heard anyone comparing it to Flushed Away, thinking it was just another rat movie. As for Transformers, I’d bet money on that being #1 this weekend. When I went to see Ratatouille again today, there were a whole bunch of people ahead of me in line for it. Transformers, I mean. And you know, I think Harry Potter comes out next week.
I strongly believe that the box office will steadily increase due to word of mouth that Ratatouille is getting. Summer 2007 is one of the most franchise-filled summers of all time, who was the idiot who decided to release so many big franchises and sequels in a 3 month period?
Summer in the US is a big movie going season, I guess… Brad Bird actually joked that they should have called the movie “Ratatouille: the prequel to the sequel”. ![]()
Sky- There’s even an advert that advertises the fact that this is a big summer for movies! It shows all of these different clips of films (not including Ratatouille, unfortunately) then comes to a massive climax with words similar to, “SUMMER, 2007- THE BIGGEST SUMMER OF MOVIES”. Why they’re advertising this, I don’t know. ![]()
Wow…I’m not sure what to think now. Ratatouille made less money opening weekend than every Pixar movie since A Bug’s Life. But now comes monday’s totals, and Ratatouille grossed $7.5 million dollars — that’s more than ANY Pixar film has ever grossed on a weekday. And Ratatouille even had Transformers to compete with. That’s pretty impressive…
Hm… that is quite good for a Monday. Not only is it the Independence Day week, but Monday was a Canada Day holiday. ![]()
