As Al-Bob suggested in the Christmas thread where we got off topic, here’s a thread for everyone who’s a fan of the Redwall books to talk about them!
I, for one, am a little rusty on my Redwall character/plots since it’s been a few years since I’ve read them. But I am starting to re-read the books now.
I have never read Redwall, but my best friend is a big fan of it! He is recently working on a new version of his 2d scrolling arcade game - Redwall: Adventures. Some older versions can be found on his website. I think I shouldn’t post the link because it can be assessed as spam, but if someone’s interested - feel free to ask. The game is freeware.
I haven’t read the books but I enjoy the animated show. There was a marathon on PBS when it had first come out and I pretty much did nothing but watch it the entire day.
Oh! That’s right! I almost forgot about the animated series! I was only able to catch a few pieces here and there, but I enjoyed them whenever I was able to catch it!
Wow, cool thread! I’ve read Redwall back in '05 (or '06? It’s been ages) during the year-end break before I entered university. Those were good times, the period when you know you’ve cleared the biggest hurdle of the ‘O’ levels (the leaving examination of Singapore’s secondary school), and that you don’t have to worry about finding a job yet (like now) because you have all your university years ahead of you. So there was literally nothing for my parents to pester me about, and I devoured a lot of books from Singapore’s newly opened National Library.
Aaaanyway, Brian Jacques’ first and greatest tale in the series was one of the books I read, and it’s what you all have been saying, great swashbuckling action, the slimiest villain we all love to hate, a true and honest hero, and a tender romance with the requisite fair maiden. The secondary characters (especially the henchmen) were endearing, the species’ different accents and dialects compelling, and Jacques never lets up on describing those fancy feasts those creatures savoured. It’s high-adventure at its best.
My favourite character was Warbeak, cos’ she just so foolishly single-minded in killing our hero Matthias (I loved her catchphrase “I kileettt you! KILEETTT…!” How charming.), but [spoil]eventually teams up with him to defeat Cluny.[/spoil]
I tried reading Martin the Warrior the following year, and even Eulalia this year, but I never got around to finishing them. For me, Redwall will always be the best and most awesome story from Mr Jacques.
You’re missing out on a lot, FONY! Well, whaddya waitin’ for?
Just finished Luke the Warrior and The Pearls of Lutra…Loved Martin the Son of Mattimeo.
I also just saw the complete version of the animated Redwall series.
I really like the series but hated all the changes they made.
I have some spoilers for Redwall fans…some may not be spoilers but for me they were…
-A new Redwall Movie is coming out in 2011…by who is ?
-Another book is coming out in 2009…when ? This makes two new books for my list to get
-The animated series Redwall has completed the 3rd season…Martin the Warrior and are now going after Mossflower…sweet. Now they have officially done Redwall, Mattimeo, Martin the Warrior, and Mossflower…
Let’s see, the last one I read was Eulalia. I know there’s a new one out there but I never buy hardcover so it’ll have to wait.
My favorite books are the ones which squirrels or hares as the main characters. Triss, Rakkety Tam, and The Long Patrol. My least favorite is probably Outcast. Ferhago is my favorite villain, while Triss and the psycho black squirrel from the Legend of Luke are my favorite characters.
And I have every book from Redwall to Eulalia. I’ve been collecting them for 11 years now and don’t plan on stopping. I owe this series a lot. It’s influences are found in my art and stories.
