RENT

Okay, I feel stupid for starting this since I can’t

recall how it ended … I plan to see it on Broadway one of these days- I go to the city enough … it’s about

time I saw a musical again …

Anyway, anyone else on this board a fan of it? I remember there were some

musical fans out there … at least on the old boards. This is the only popular musical I know of that other

people know of … well, I know two, but the other’s rated R, so that’s a no no.

This musical moved me

since I loved this actor, Jeffrey Mylett (points to avatar), who I later found out died three years before I was

born. He died of AIDs. Back then it was called the ‘gay disease’ but … guess it took a straight person to die

from it for them to get their heads straight. I recommend this movie if you like a bit of drama, or know someone

who has AIDs or has died from it.

Awesome movie and I can see why people obsess over it, but I’d prefer

to see the musical on stage too.

Parental Guidance I suppose for the younger ones … ^^ Just so I

don’t get yelled at for some ten year old checking this movie out and getting scarred for life, lol. I have

enough on my conscious.

I one time sang

“Seasons of Love” in my Seventh Grade Choir, and I was hooked to see the play ever

since!!

However, I never got to, and I had the unfortunate time to never have the chance to see it when it

was in theatres.

But it’s summer now, and you’ve just reminded me of it so . . . .

“Seasons of Love” annoyed me before I ever saw the film, though it is a nice

song, it can really get on your nerves. I guess that’s the one thing that’d draw anyone away from it, or people

who fear gay people. :open_mouth:

I love Mimi’s song … forget the name of it. And ‘No Day But Today’.

Rocks my freakin’ socks.

Rent is onfe

of my favorite musicals I have ever seen. What I completely enjoy is the music. Never have I heard it so

original, so over-the-top. I love the songs “Rent”, “One Song, Glory”, “Santa Fe”,

“1000 kisses, (original and reprise)”, “Will I lose my Dignity”, “Seasons of Love”,

“The one that goes You’re living in America”, and “No Day but Today.”

I sang Rent in

my High School chior and got 2 solos. One speaking part and one singing part. The singing part was performed at

Disneyland infront of a lot of people in the park.

Exactly; I fell in love with the

soundtrack and have never actually seen it live. (There is only one theatre on

this island and it rarely shows anything worth seeing. ) I had very mixed feelings when the film version

came out because – obviously – yay RENT! But I’m

not fond of Chris Columbus as a director, or a producer, or really a film-maker in

general. For writing The Goonies and Galaxy High, as

well as directing Adventures in Babysitting, I give him my most humble thanks on

behalf of my childhood upbringing. But that’s what he does best, slightly cheesy kiddie adventure movies, I

think he wrecked the Harry Potter films and RENT could

have been much better than it was. I really enjoyed seeing almost the full original cast back in their old

roles, though. (How is it that Idina Menzel is even prettier now then she was then? )

Chris Colombus being the director is what shied me away

from it. He was horrible with the Harry Potter movies- I’m surprised this was good. I actually forgot it was

directed by him after I saw it. ^_^;

Ouch – I’m one of those fellas who beleive that the first two HP films were the best!! Since HP3 & 4,

I’ve been extremely dissapointed . . . .

I liked the third one the best, but not a keen

Columbus fan I’m afraid!

I thought a lot of the camera work in RENT was laboured and you shouldn’t

specifically be noticing camera angles and thinking “Wow, that’s a little awkward” when you’re

engrossed in the plot! I think the cast did an amazing job with RENT though and I appreciate his taking the risk

of casting the Original Broadway Cast in it

I can understand- the first two followed the book but

then the newer ones are leaving lots of good stuff out. I personally just watch them for better visuals. But I

visualized McGonagall younger. =P Though I do love Dame Maggie Smith. =)

Anyway … yeah, this surprised

me … it’s cool that they keep the original cast- wish they did the same for Godspell, but most movies based

off musicals replace several people with known actors and actresses to attract more audiences. Can’t blame them,

though I sometimes prefer the original cast.

I hate to say it, but I abandonded the series. This was all becuause of two reasons.

One: I love other stuff. Two: someone spoiled the ending for me.

Hey! I love plenty of stuff. I never betray any of my

fandoms. I may obsess over them at different times, but I still love them. They’re my inspirations and muses.

That stinks that someone spoiled an ending for you. I spoiled the recent one myself. I looked at the

last chapter- big no no. I cried anyway at the end. The words hit me hard.

Back on topic- if you like

musicals, and that musical’s made into a movie- always by both the original soundtrack and the movie soundtrack.

I did it for Godspell (mainly for the songs that were cut out) but the differences are cool. I love the Broadway

soundtracks better because they sound cooler. The ones I’ve heard anyways.

You

shouldn’t just quit the series if you’ve been spoiled. Granted, it MUST hurt (God, I know) . . . but still .

. .

Yeah, that’s no reason to quit. I stay far from the

computer when a book comes out, and I’ll only go back on until I’ve read the whole thing. People on the net are

really evil like that …

Geez, I never have time with this art class in the city to actually watch the

end of RENT! =P First thing this weekend, I’m watching it all the way through.

You can call me a huge Renthead. I saw the Chris Columbus movie on opening day with a couple dozen of my

friends. I just fell in love with the music with so many catchy tunes. I listened to the soundtrack every single

day for several months. No Day But Today!!!

I plan to see Rent on Broadway sometime in my life.

I’m currently trying to

get tickets to see it on Broadway on my birthday.
