Kenzie: Florida is known for the Quoran burnings. That, and Disney world. When I hear something like this nonsense happening in one state, my mind usually jumps to Florida. The more crazy branches of Southern Baptist, usually.
That phrase is so perfect! It’s exactly the way it was. The founders of the nation all had Christian backgrounds, that doesn’t make them people who want to start a Christian only nation. The USA was completely unique for its time period, a country without an official religion? Mind blowing for its time!
Here’s another quote you’d like. Benjamin Franklin proposed a prayer to start off each Congressional meeting. Alexander Hamilton replied with 'I think it’s unnessesary to call upon foreign aid"
Yeah, every state has religious nutjobs and their own controversial moments. I wouldn’t be so quick to designate it to a certain group of people, especially since overall Florida is a pretty liberal state (in the Southern half of it at least).
Leonard Stone had a long and varied career, but is perhaps best known for playing Violet Beauregarde’s father in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”.
Ryan Dunn’s tribute thread gets ten replies, yet one of the greatest character actors with a 40+ year career gets nothing. Maybe Leonard needed to drink a bottle of human sweat in order to get some appreciation.
WheezysBestBud: My condolences. May he rest in peace. But don’t be offended by this, I have never heard of Leonard Stone before, I know Ryan Dunn, but I had no idea who Leonard Stone was until now. Sorry. Still, after reading about him, i can say that he will be missed. A great man.
Yeah, heard about this happening in Colorado. Disgraceful, a group of people just go to see a film for a bit of entertainment, and they end up getting gunned down. Just so you know, here’s a mugshot of James Holmes, the man who committed this atrocity.
What kind of coward takes the life of a 3-month old baby?!?
From every news report I’ve heard, the death toll has sat at 12 people. I haven’t checked the news as of late, but from the continuous news reporting as of yesterday and early this morning, the death toll had not risen above 12. I’ll update the thread name to reflect this.
It was so terrible to hear about this happening. I have to wonder how it’s going to affect TDKR’s success at the box office this weekend, though that seems trivial to mention in light of the tragedy at hand. My prayers go out to the families of the victims, as well as to the parents of the shooter. We often forget about how hard it is for them to comprehend and process the fact that their child would do something so horrific.
I attended the midnight premiere at my local theater and felt mildly anxious around that many people. (I am nowhere near Colorado btw) I heard the news when I got home at 3 and was incredibly disheartened. So terribly sad. Praying for everyone involved.
The fact that a BABY was injured is just the icing on the cake…!
Geoff: As much as it angers us, we should not jump to conclusions. He’s still a suspect, even though his mum claims it’s him, and in the eyes of the law, he’s innocent till proven guilty by a U.S. court.
…
I read about this while subbing an article at the newspaper company I work at in Singapore.
My heart goes out to all those affected by the tragedy, and I salute the brave men and women in law enforcement that captured the suspect and defused the bombs in his house, as well as the paramedics, other emergency personnel, and ordinary yet extraordinary civilians that helped the victims of this violent injustice.
While the media might blame anything from violent video games to gun control laws as a factor for this person’s actions, we should remember that it is a choice that he and he alone, made (unless other information turns up in the course of investigation - perhaps he was mentally-unstable enough to not fully realise the consequences of his actions?).
I thank the man/woman/deity up there that I am lucky enough to never fear having to encounter this kind of situation in Singapore, and we should never go a single day without saying how much we love our friends and family.
I felt like I’d been punched in the gut when I read this late this afternoon.
Neil has left a truly remarkable footprint not only on the Moon, but on humanity as a whole. We will never forget him nor his courage to be the first to go where no man had gone before.
A true American hero. He will be missed. At least he dosen’t have to deal with the morons who think the Moon Landing was a hoax.
By the way… Intead of having a topic just for Armstorng, how about you rename this thread Passed away Famous People or something. I noticed some people have made topics just for one person who passed on. How about be put them all on one thread so it’s not a mess. As a Mod I think you should know we don’t need a thread for every person.
