Rio 2

I would like to see a Harpy eagle make an appearance in this possible Rio sequel. They’re such beautiful birds.

That would be nice! They are pretty cool! I love seeing birds that we don’t have here.

You have no idea how much I love the first film and I how much I’m looking forward to the sequel!

In fact, I have plans to visit The Marvellous City in 2014, as yes, that’s where the next World Cup will be (which is really, the premise of the sequel).

Rio, eu te amo! (In fact, that’s the title of another upcoming film )

I am so insanely jealous of you. One day, one day I’ll go there.

And I love the title!

PS I’m wearing my Brasil jacket right now.

I know most of us have seen this, but here’s the teaser trailer:

And here’s a slightly different one:

How exciting!

Ooh, I haven’t seen those yet! I’m excited!

Saw the teaser on MU, and I really hope that I wasn’t the only person in the theater that day doing a little dance to the music sitting down. Can’t wait! Good ol’ Blue Sky

Needless to say, I am looking forward to it!

I hope I actually get to see this one in theaters.

Haha, after the riots and your FB comments, I’m not so sure it’s a good idea now. :stuck_out_tongue: Currently I’m pondering somewhere in between World Cup and Olympics!

What is this Brasil jacket and where can I get one?

LQstudiesPixar: Thanks for sharing! And yeeesss… Cinema! Cinema! I’m going to watch it at least twice like what I did for Rio (I even had two separate friends accompany me on both occassions).

OH LAWD, that singing capybara! 8D

OWP: Ohmygosh, how I wish I saw that as a preview! The crowd reaction! (I got Cloudy 2, which I’m also looking forward to watching despite not having seen the first one)

Sadly, I get the feeling there’s a 50/50 chance maybe I won’t be able to go after all. But I said 50/50, so, you know…We’ll see, but I did get to see the original finally. Really good! Probably my 3rd favorite film of 2011…if I absolutely [u:139ispw9]had[/u:139ispw9] to rank them (otherwise, I’d prefer not to)!

What’s this, [b:139ispw9]TDIT[/b:139ispw9]? Weren’t you the one who told me not to see the [i:139ispw9]Rio 2[/i:139ispw9] trailer before seeing [i:139ispw9]Rio[/i:139ispw9]? :-\ Just kidding! I probably won’t be able to see that one either, nor have I seen the first film, but after hearing audience’s reaction, I would like to see [i:139ispw9]Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs[/i:139ispw9]! It’s almost the only film from Sony Pictures Animation that ever really sparked an interest in me (I haven’t seen any Sony films by the way).

LQstudiesPixar: Ehehehehe! I’m so glad you enjoyed Rio! Just curious, what is your top two of 2011?

Haha, looks like I’m a hippo-crite! :stuck_out_tongue: I guess it’s no spoiler to say that Flint Lockwood doesn’t die in the first film, since he shows up in the second film’s trailer!

I’m a bit embarassed to say that I have a bootleg copy of the first film from a friend sitting on my hard drive somewhere and I didn’t patronise it in cinemas during its release. I hope to get down to seeing the first and if I enjoy it (which I have a strong feeling I will, since I’m a sucker for puns), I might see the sequel in cinemas.

You haven’t seen any Sony animated films? What?!? No way! Well, the first I’d recommend to you is Surf’s Up. It had the unfortunate circumstance of being released soon after Happy Feet, but it’s a great surfing movie and is absolutely beautiful (seriously, I’d say you can use its Blu-Ray to test your HDTV for picture quality). Mitch, I believe, will vouch for it.

Open Season’s not bad too, it’s a buddy-comedy movie, and it’s probably the only animated film where you’ll see a deer poop onscreen (I’m not kidding!).

I watched Hotel Transyvannia in cinemas last year and if you’re a fan of Looney Tunes-style animation and genre parodies, I highly recommend it. The subversion on the horror genre at the climax (and the in-flight movie scene, you’ll know it when you see it) is worth the price of admission alone.

I can’t vouch for Arthur Christmas, Smurfs or Pirates! cos’ I haven’t seen 'em, but it’s a pretty decent studio.

Oh it was great! Maybe I can move Rio up to my top two of 2011 with more viewings. But, I absolutely loved Cars 2 and Winnie the Pooh (it’s short and sometimes soft-spoken, but I love it), they tie for me at #1 of 2011. However, I did not see Kung Fu Panda 2 or Puss in Boots (I came close to this one), but I did think both looked good and like a lot of fun, so naturally, they are on my “to-see” list. Not to mention I finally saw Rango, which I liked. I thought was pretty cool, but I really like the other films more. And The Muppets was a nice film as well.

Yeah, don’t worry! I was just kidding about that sequel-trailer thing! The first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs looked sort of like it would be an ordinary CGI film at first, but as the trailer went along there was this charm I liked about it, in Flint Lockwood, and the food looked so good! As for the others, I wouldn’t mind catching them at some point, particularly Surf’s Up or Arthur Christmas which I know is by Aardman. Wow, so many movies these days, but I try to keep up with the times…

^I shall vouch for Surf’s Up! It’s funny, charming, and sweet, and the shots of the water are indeed mind-blowing. It’s also got bits that might remind one of Robots and Cars. Sony is a awesome company and I need to tank up on more of their films, especially Hotel Transylvania and the Cloudy films. Fun fact: I’ve seen the Cloudy 2 trailer on almost every film I’ve seen this year (and I still laugh at it every time) Anyway, yes, Jeffery Katzenberg was right on the money when he said that “we’re in a perfect storm of animated movies”
Now come on, Rio 2, I think it’s safe to say there are a lot of people who are wanting to see it…

Really, ObsessedWithPixar? I wouldn’t have known! Maybe I should start considering Sony more. Yes, I haven’t seen any of their films, but I wouldn’t mind to. The Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs films look like they would be my favorites. Surf’s Up looked neat enough, plus some Disney and Pixar veterans were behind the project.

Sometimes…I just don’t know what to expect from the other companies. Part of it is because my parents aren’t totally sure if everything out there looks convincing. They’ll watch every Pixar film, and a few years back they decided they’ll watch all of the new Disney films. My dad is less encouraging than my mom. Some look good, and others look alright…I wish I thought everything looked good. So basically, if I like what I see in trailers, clips, and interviews, we’ll watch it. But otherwise…I’m afraid to say I cannot keep up with all of the movies, but I don’t assume any of them are bad. I want to be as open-minded as possible.

Anyway, about Rio 2, I hope it does very well. The first time Blue Sky uses a number in one of their sequels. Next year, we’ve also got How to Train Your Dragon 2 (is that the official title?), as well as Planes: Fire and Rescue, and a spin-off, Minions. Our original titles will be The Good Dinosaur, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Home, and Big Hero 6.

^Can’t forget The Lego Movie! There are indeed a whole lot of animateds coming out next year… Anyway, I generally am pretty open-minded when it comes to most animated films, and in the last few years, all the films I wanted to see and ended up seeing turned out to be great! Of course that could just be because I’m extremely optimistic, but considering what a great job these companies have been doing as of late, I think it’s a good chance that they’ll continue to do well. And thankfully, my family doesn’t mind joining me on various theater excursions for the most part. Hopefully I’ll have some of them join me for Rio 2

Ah, you’re right! I do want to see the The Lego Movie, from the same guys who made the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs! Wish I could say I’ve seen their first film, but that’s okay…

I see that in general, most of the companies seem to be making good films. I just don’t usually have the time or money for all of the films in a year. I was less enthusiastic back when they all started up at the same time when some thought computer animation was the answer to the problems. Obviously, I couldn’t have known better. I’m not against them at all, though. A lot of them in particular look fresh, maybe just some more than others. And my parents aren’t very judgmental either, but certain films interest them more than others, so naturally I feel more comfortable going if we can all agree that the film would be great for all of us.

In Rio-related news, guess what? My high school invited this samba band earlier this year to one of our assemblies. Not only were they really nice and a lot of fun, and we got to samba…but in the Q&A part, one of members told us that he was one of the people behind some of the music in Rio! We were really glad to hear that! The sad part was, I hadn’t seen Rio just yet, but I have now.

LQstudiesPixar: I’ve been meaning to watch Winnie The Pooh (I’ve been saying “I’ve been meaning to” a lot lately…). The trailer which had “Somewhere Only We Know” was one of the best I saw that year! Not really keen on Muppets, but I might give it a shot since I heard it parodies a few things.

OWP: Heehe, I’m glad you love Surf’s Up too! :sunglasses: Sony’s movies are generally charming and inoffensive, so they’re great in a Saturday-morning/while-away-the-afternoon kinda way. Not to say they don’t make great night movies or anything, but there’s just something fun and breezy about their flicks, unlike say Pixar, which can be emotionally-draining, or Dreamworks, which can be laugh riots.

Ah, so you read that article on his thoughts behind Turbo’s not-so-successful box-office takings? Actually I wonder why people try to compare B.O. takings of Pixar films. I mean, okay, there’s the inflation and 3-D aspects, but the studio has big competition, not only from its rival Dreamworks, which is catching on its heels with fare like Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon, but also from other smaller studios like Illumination Entertainment, Laika and even the godawful Video Briquendo.

I thought The Lego Movie was a horrible idea, but I’d have to say the trailer convinced me otherwise. Being a fan of crossovers, mash-ups and parodies, I think I’m going to enjoy it more than I think I will… if that… makes sense!

Also HTTYD2 aahhhh next year is gonna be spectacular!

Is anyone hoping for an Art Of book? They did one for Robots and Epic (can’t remember about Ice Age) but I was sooo crushed there’s none for Rio! :frowning: Especially when you have wonderful art like the ones on this artist’s blog.

True, I’ve followed Winnie the Pooh ever since I was a kid, and the first one is one of my all-time favorites, and now this one is too, so it was a very nostalgic experience for me. I was one of the few people watching this while the rest of the world was watching the conclusion to Harry Potter (but I like the Harry Potter films I’ve seen, so eventually I’ll see them all). The only unfortunate thing about it is that it is one of Disney’s lowest-grossing films, but that’s okay. They’ve still got lots of money.

I actually don’t follow The Muppets. I know some people really loved it, but I thought it was just fine, not quite as great others thought, but still fine. To be honest, I mostly went for the Toy Story Toon, “Small Fry” , but I stayed for The Muppets. I haven’t bought it on home video, though.

True, I didn’t see Epic or Turbo, but I’m sad that they didn’t do well. Epic is Blue Sky’s new lowest-grossing film worldwide, even with 3D inflation. Turbo is the fourth-lowest grossing for DreamWorks right now even though it’s not done yet. But Illumination struck big this year, doing Ice Age-sequel-type business with Despicable Me 2, which I really loved. Now Illumination is a big player, and Sony is catching a lot of attention now, with Laika following. But man, I sure hope Video Brinquedo is not considered competition!
