Rio (2011)

Haha, that’s crazy! Don’t worry. I just got my first job. I’m sure in the future someone will say how important Rio was to their childhood, and I’LL feel old!

I looove Where is the Love! Yes, those two artists worked well together.

I liked this a lot more on a second viewing. Yeah, its story is flawed and pretty straightforward, but overall I think this movie was made to entertain first, and its energy and visuals make the shortcomings more forgivable. It’s almost impossible not to walk out of it in a good mood.

Overall Ice Age> Rio to me for sure, not to say I didn’t enjoy Rio but Ice Age was also important to me at the time and helped me out in a bad portion of my life in it’s own weird way. Plus Ice Age is just fantastic in general. Manny and Diego are amazing as is of course ‘pinkie’ the human kid.

More or less I could see however an announcer saying “the studio which brought you Ice Age and Rio” rather than say “Horton hears a Who” though in the second slot (if it ever was I don’t know myself). Just an example.

I’m so pleased everyone who wrote a review here enjoyed Rio to some degree! I had so much fun reading through your posts, I made an ‘accolades sig’. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just wanna mention that I’m 90% certain I’ll be going to see Rio for the second and last time today. I manage to get one of my friends who hasn’t seen it on-board, so I’m eager to hear his reaction.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll have to go put on a ridiculous chicken costume.

Hahahah, nice reference!

And I like my comment! I was so excited about the movie, I couldn’t think of anything constructive to say. I just LOVED it! 8D

And I have plans to rewatch it this Friday. I can’ts wait!

I might be seeing this soon on a day my Dad doesn’t have to work at night. Greatly looking forward to it.

Fantastic! You’ll enjoy it.

I’ve already posted about this on the Newt page in the Upcoming Movies section of PP, but It’s appropraite to post here too. John Lasseter has confirmed that Newt was cancelled because of similarities to Rio.

“Its story was very similar to a movie that’s out in theaters right now with a blue parrot. Oh my! Wow, we were like … no, there was no … great minds think alike, I guess. It was really pretty similar.” -J Lass

EJE: I can’t wait to hear your opinion upon a second rewatch! My second and last viewing went well, my theatre partner kept laughing and chuckling, even more than I did on my first time. I think Blue Sky has made their funniest and most charming film yet. There were some things I noticed that I didn’t realize before, like the reason why [spoil]they had to enter the nightclub was that they were waiting for the next trolley[/spoil], and the weird “I trusted you!” line by Linda, etc.

Will you be flying solo or with some pals?

I’m pleasantly surprised by theoutsider’s change of heart from his/her initial skepticism to becoming a fan of the film and particularly the soundtrack. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts, Leirin. Have fun.

.
As someone mentioned, this was not the only reason why they cancelled Rio, and that it was merely John Lasseter’s comments on story similarities.

I’ve posted a detailed commentary on that statement, but needless to say, I’m very disappointed Hawaiian-Shirt-Man had to take such a cheap potshot at Blue Sky instead of simply explaining they had story problems.

It’s like graciously conceding a race, and then making subtle remarks about the competitor instead of admitting your own faults.

I’ll be seeing it with a friend who was suppose to see it with me on my birthday, but had to cancel. I’m also going with my sister, we’re both huge Ice Age fans.

I’ll be seeing it in 2D this time, as oppossed to 3D like last time. I’m excited to compare the two. A few scenes in Rio were fantastic in 3D (such as the opening scene. when the Scarlett Macaws did they’re syncronized flying people in the threatre went WOW. It was beautiful). But also I’ve noticed that the colors are darker in 3D, so I can’t wait to see how bright it is in 2D, because color played a big part in this movie.

That’s a great reason to see films a second time, I love picking up all those detail! I’m very happy you liked watching it again, and glad that there’s someone else who’s just as big a Rio fan as me!

According to Wikipedia, the original cut of the movie recieved a PG rating. Blue Sky wasn’t happy about that, so they made some cuts. I wonder what was cut. After seeing that security guard in the gold outfit making those suggestive dance moves, I hope they include the cuts as deleted material on the home release.

Same here, I’d like to know more about what was cut. The Carnival scene was very clean compared to the actual event.

Ah… so word got out about Fox’s cuts? Frankly, I’m disappointed. I think they chopped some of the implications about procreation and some double-entendres, although TBH, it was still pretty obvious from the final version that they had to ‘do it’ and all that. :unamused:

Actually I wondered what exactly did they remove. Maybe the more unsavoury parts of the ghetto, or the butts on Copacabana or Carnival?

One of Rio-Movie’s co-founders on dA has actually informed me he/she knows a contact in Fox that can provide him/her with the deleted footage, but I’ll have to check up with him/her on that.

I’m rapidly forgetting what I picked up on my second viewing, but it was an enjoyable experience. My theatre mate and I were on a balcony (it was a small split-level room) and we had a ‘bird’s eye’ view of the screen (pardon the pun). There were only adults in our showing, about two or three, so we felt like we had the whole theatre to ourselves!

I wrote a short summary on my blog about it, but I will say that it is worth every penny, and it was one of my most enjoyable cinema experiences this year because my tagalong partner had a grand time (he actually laughed more than I did on my first showing!).

I’ve just heard from Twitter that little_chef will be seeing it today, so I’m very excited to hear her response. I’ve been raving it to her a few weeks back (I even compared it to HTTYD, which is my honest opinion), and I’m eagerly awaiting to see if she enjoyed it as much as we did!

I’ve recently watched Rio and I have to say I really loved it. It was very enjoyable, although I kind of felt that they could have used more gags, but maybe that’s just me. Hm, maybe a re-watch is in order…
I honestly can’t decide whether Rio or Winnie The Pooh is my favorite movie of 2011^^"

WTP,

I’m sorry, I’m not familier with what WTP stands for. Mind telling me?

^Winnie the Pooh.

RIGHT !!!

Oh, alright! Thanks for letting me know. Bryan: I don’t know what you meant by that comment, but WTP has been released in theatres in Germany, where WoN lives.

(I think) he’s saying the it is superior to Rio. I could misunderstand, though.

I thought that, too, IV.

But, oh well, I love both Rio and Pooh equally <3
