Ironically I watched Robots and The first season of Futurama in the same week. I could, without thinking, spot some major semilarities.

  1. Bender and Rodney meet basically the same way as Bender and Frie do.
  2. They both have the name Bender!!! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and

Wink" />

They had suicide booths in Robots?

I can think of a difference: Futurama is actually good.

*Well, the first 3 seasons, that is.

:stuck_out_tongue: So true.

I never realized that. They are pretty similiar, but I wouldn’t call it a ripoff.

Actually they met in this transportation thing. There just both machines.

I never thought that. Of course I think I saw Robots before I got into Futurama, and I only saw Robots cuz of Robin WIlliams. I mean, there’s a lot of things that deal with the future, and usually robots are a main staple in that. Plus wasnt Robots a world populated only by robots? There’s a big difference between that and Futurama then.

…what? It’s Fender and Rodney in Robots, not Bender. >.<

Wasn’t Bender’s “evil” twin named Fender?

I liked Robots…at least, from what I remember. I only saw it once. But Futurama is great, I do agree there.

I wouldn’t know-I haven’t seen very much of Futurama. It wasn’t really interesting to me.

Still, by what I do know, I honestly don’t see how the two are all that similar. There’s a robot who’s name rhymes with the name of a robot in Robots, but that seems to be it as far as I can tell. As for the characters meeting in the same sort of way like the writer of this topic said, if it was similar it’s probably just coincidence. The way Rodney and Fender meet in Robots seems like the sort of thing other people could think of without having seen that movie, so the creators probably just happened to have similar ideas (if that makes any sense, I’m bad at explaining things).

Personally I’m getting kind of annoyed when people say something is a rip off of something else when there are only a few similarities. There’s a big difference between a movie being a rip off and it having similarities to another movie/show. And in this case I don’t see how Robots even comes close to being a rip off.
