What is the scariest kids movie you ever saw? Something that you where really suprized at how scary it was. For me, its the Spiderwick Chronicles. That was a really big-monstrous-things-jumping-out-from-nowhere movie. I saw it with my twenty year old sister Erica, and she was even more scared than I was! When I told my friends, they didn’t believe me. But you guys do, right? ![]()
Do “family films” (not just “kids’ movies”) count?
If so, I’d say Poltergeist is hands-down the scariest family film.
I think a lot of parents went into Jurassic Park expecting cute dinosaurs from Steven Spielburg too.
Rac_Rules: Mulgarath was even scarier in the books.
I couldn’t find him scary in the movie, because, well, I found him funny because he looked like a green King Kong, and he was naked.
I’m immature.
Legend - not necessarily a kids’ film, but I saw it when I was a wee one and Meg Mucklebones scared me to no end.

I thought she wasn’t real until I bought Legend on DVD and came across the scene with her.
She eats people, apparently. She lives in a swamp. She swims freaky fast. ![]()
The Neverending Story. Aside from being quite a generally drugged up sort of film, that wolf thing scared the living daylights out of me when I first saw it, and it still does now. It’s those eyes, and the snarling teeth thing…And when the world is ending and being taken over by the Nothing, and there’s the final battle between Atreyu and the wolf, and the wolf jumps out and they fight and EEP.
Actually, the whole film was quite scary. When Artax, Atreyu’s horse dies, I always cry. And there’s so much scary music and the atmosphere in general is quite creepy. What a great film.
poltergeist i dont really think was a family film. it is defined as a horror film, possibly defined as one of the scariest of all time. the reason it was rated PG was because it was made when there was no rating between PG and R.
