Sci-Fi's "Tin Man"

Official website

Summary: L. Frank Baum’s classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is boldly reimagined for the new millenium with a darkly menacing world populated by wicked sisters, cowardly psychics, brain-drained inventors and a menagerie of other fantastical inhabitants.
Unlike anything the author imagined a century ago, the Ozian realm portrayed in Tin Man is much farther over the rainbow than ever before.
A fierce tornado rips DG (Zooey Deschanel) from her clock-watching life as a waitress in the Midwest and deposits her with a shocking bump on “the other side.”
The Outer Zone (O.Z.) is a fantastical land rife with wonder but opressed by dark magic. The O.Z. has been plunged into a decade-long night of fear by the sorceress Azkadellia (Kathleen Robertson).
Aided by her Longcoat storm troopers and winged Mobat (monkey-bat) spies, she has seized power from her own mother, the rightful queen known as Lavender Eyes (Anna Galvin), and compromised such once-potent Ozian leaders as the Mystic Man (Richard Dreyfuss). Even the tiny but fierce Resistance Fighters of the Eastern Guild are losing hope that the sorceress can be stopped.
Heeding the whisper of her own emerging memories, DG realizes that only she can halt Azkadellia’s twisted master plan.
A visit with the “Blunderful Mystic of Oz” in Central City, imprisonment in the sorceress’s tower and a daring escape on the road south to the Realm of the Unwanted all deliver startling revelations about a bewitched land that’s nothing like home.

It airs on Sunday, December 2nd, at 8:00 pm for me but if you guys want to see it you’ll have to look up your times.

Anyone else planning on watching this mini-series? I’m usually not up for them but it looks very interesting, and I’m always up for a new spin on a classic.

You’re entitled to your own opinion but don’t be mean! :stuck_out_tongue:

I might catch it.
Like all, seen OZ and even it’s hard to find sequel, Return to Oz.

From the preview, am a bit sketchy to how it will play out, as it shows to deviate heavily from the original material. But sometimes that’s a good thing and we’ll give it a chance and see what it’s like. Hopefully it will give a few more showings so nobody misses it.

Yeah, I grew up with both Wizard of Oz and Return to Oz.

Oh I know if it’s not the best thing ever, it’s going to be attacked by critics. But I don’t care- I love seeing these sorts of things and I have a good feeling about it. I heard about it a little over a year ago and I’ve been looking forward to it since.

I think it’s only problem is it won’t have enough viewers because it’s a series and you’d have to be patient … I know I will die from impatience, lol. But I suppose those rich peoples out there with DVR and TiVo can record and watch it. Who knows? It might actually be popular. Fantasy films are popular these days (which attributes to the veil thinning).

Good point. Dinotopia probably suffered the same, having gone several hours in it’s mini-series.

I saw a little spot of it on my computer. It seemed very intresting. And I love the Oz story, so I might go catch it.

If it comes on cable here, I’ll try and watch it. Thanks for the heads-up - I probably would have skipped it otherwise. :stuck_out_tongue:

They been talking about the mini seires since around june.
Im intrested to see how this show is going to be like.

I saw it. But I was extremely cranky that whole week, lol. I was lacking a lot of sleep. It was worth it though. I only have minor complaints, that Zooey Deschanel didn’t seem like she was putting all her energy into it and they really should’ve changed this one dude’s name. And I wish the ending had more to it. :stuck_out_tongue: But aside from that, it was all good. It has every reason to be dark, seeing as it’s 500 years in the future for OZ.
