Sequels?

As all of you know, The only sequel(s) pixar has made has been of the Toy Story series. So, I just wanted to know, are there any other sequels to pixar movies you guys would like to see? Just wanted to bring up some conversation :sunglasses:

Except for the time when I was between the age of 10-12 (give or take), I never was much one for film sequels, the reason being that a good percentage of them are never done in a decent fashion. There are, of course, the select exceptions (ie., Toy Story 2, The Empire Strikes Back, etc…), but most of them are…pretty bad. (snigger)

I am partially against the idea of Pixar doing sequels of any kind, mainly due to the fact that they are not that necessary and because it’s more fun to use your imagination as to what happens after the words ā€œThe Endā€ are displayed on the screen.
Take Ratatouille, for example: I absolutely love that film, but woe betide Pixar if they ever make a sequel to that lovely production (unless they make it good, of course, which I’m sure they would). I don’t doubt the creative team at Pixar’s ability to concoct a worthwhile feature film in the form of a sequel, as they’ve already hit a home run with Toy Story 2, a film I like even more than its predecessor, if you can believe it. Henceforth, I could stand watching A Bug’s Life 2 or The Incredibles 2 if the story-line is solid and firmly cemented into the ground.

So yeah. I’m not against sequels entirely, but I’m not all for them either. It goes both ways. Eheh.

Well, some Pixar films deserve sequels while others… well … don’t. At this point, I see The Incredibles 2 in the near future should the project ultimately be made. That being said, the Pixar films that I can’t see a sequel being made for include A Bug’s Life , Monsters, Inc. , Finding Nemo , Cars , and Ratatouille . I just can’t see them pulling it off, and by that I mean coming up with a story that would be worthy for a sequel. Now, I’m sure that they could, but I just don’t see that happening.

I think that The Incredibles is the only Pixar film that could benefit from a sequel. All the other films wrap themselves up so nicely that any continuation would feel far too forced. Cars maybe could have handled one well enough, but after the video game, I think that any film sequel would raise too much confusion. Since A Bug’s Life ends with everybody going their own ways, getting the characters to meet up again in a sequel would feel too unrealistic (and the fact that I recall several of the voice actors have since died :frowning:). Finding Nemo and Ratatouille have their endings that almost fall under the category of epilogues, giving them a sense of finality that ought not be tampered with. Finally, Monsters, Inc. is indeed left extraordinarily open-ended, but something about it says that in its case, the open-endedness is part of the beauty, and a sequel would just ruin that.

And besides, when you get down to it, any superhero movie basically just begs for a sequel. :unamused:

^^^ Pretty much what Bill said. However, I personally would love to see a Monsters Inc. 2 - not just because I love that movie, but because I think they could pull it off as well.

An The Incredibles 2 (obviously) would be nice, but we’ve talked about that enough. Heheh.

I would absolutely love to see an Incredibles 2. There is just so much more stuff that yu can do with the characters! I know Bird can come up with a magnificent story, and I would love the see more from the Parrs. Also, I would love to see who their characters develop after the Undeminer. Obviously, I want to know how each character got through their lives with a new respnsibility as a SUper Hero. Also, more action sequences and solo scenes would be nice.

I could go on for a long time about this, but bear in mind that I am okay that we don’t have a sequel right now. I am in no rush yet.

Toy Story 3, and The Incredibles 2. They are sequels that don’t necessarily have to be made because the originals stand up on their own, but Pixar could do a fantastic job if they chose to further the story. And I also think those are the only Pixar films that could hold up another movie, and have a point to them.

With Ratatouille, I love that film, but it’s a superb film on its own so it doesn’t need a sequel. Let’s just enjoy it for what it is, shall we? I think a sequel to it would sort of ruin Ratatouille, if that makes sense.

I agree with DElf on this is that the endings to the films he stated pretty much have it made. If the terminus is satisfactory and ā€œclosedā€, there really is no reason to add a second stage to the play. (I would also like to see a The Incredibles 2, however. It only makes perfect sense…)

Amen, rachel. My point exactly.

Gotta say my only concern about a sequel to The Incredibles is connecting the films. That was the one thing about Toy Story is at the end of the day, the status quo remained unchanged; they were all still just toys. The only real difference was that Buzz was now assymilated into the bedroom and Andy had a new dog. Beyond that, everything else was the same and nothing needed to be explained. A new story arc could take place.

With The Incredibles, you have a LOT of explaning to do. Everything is changed and you have to relay that to the audience. Not only do you have to explain what has transpired prior to the new tory line - but you also have to explain what took place during the three months between the Syndrome incident and the attack of The Underminer. The sheer fact that they had their super suits with them implies that the band was lifted but it still needs to be explained to the average viewer who missed that from the first one. Not to mention you must account for the structuring of super oversite, heroes that have come out of hiding, the handling of super/secret identities in the family, and the character development that undoubtedly took place in the down time - especially with the kids. And don’t even get me started on having to explain away Jack-Jack’s unprecedented power and narrowing it to a more managable feature.

One could easily get lost and fill a whole movie with just these explanations and never have time for an actual new story! Now, I’m not saying it can’t be done and I’ve thought of a few ways to do it myself - including a couple that pay homage to the original movie. I’m sure Brad Bird in his story-telling genius can overcome this obstacle, but I’m sure he is also letting it weigh in heavily on his decision about making a sequel. =D

Wow, You guys have some really good points!

Most pixar movies did leave off at point where It would be extremely difficult to have a sucsessful sequel…or even one at all!

I agree with Mitch, Saying that It is always fun to leve some to the imagination

I personally don’t think ANY of them should have a sequel, spin-offs maybe but no sequels…I like how my Cars fanfic is progressing thank you very much!!!

Once again, Dash openly displays a bout of very informative, interesting, and thought-provoking points. I didn’t realize how integral and important it was to know what happened between that gap in The Incredibles until you pointed it out, dude.

I know I’ve probably said something along these lines before, but I’ll say it again. I have no problem with sequels, as long as they’re done right. And I know Pixar wouldnt do one unless they were confident that the story was as good as the original. A Cars 2 would sure be cool (seeing as how I dont own the video game, I wouldnt be confused by it) but only if the story was just as good. I dont want there to be a Cars 2 (or any other sequel) just for the sake of putting one out. Plus, there’s something to be said for coming up with new stuff. You dont want them spending too much time on one world, if it’s going to detract from them creating new ones.

Well Toy Story 3 is already in production or at least early stages…Lets see…

M.I. of course, that’s a no-brainer…

I agree with others an Incredibles sequel would be a good idea. It would be interesting to see Jack Jack a bit grown up, as well as learn a bit more about Mystiq (sorry name)…

Finding Nemo…na…that’s one better left alone…

Cars is having a sequel planned in several years :unamused: But my guess is it’ll have a different storyline…

Ratatouille…WELL…an interesting idea is having Remy enter America (as I’ve, in a way, done in a project of mine, so I contex the idea if it’s first ^_^). After all…fine cuisine (note REAL FINE) is in Europe’s Paris and the like. In America we have a toned version of them along with fastfood. HOW would Remy take to this new food world?
Not to mention what’s become of his mother, Desiur (I think that’s how it’s spelled for her name).

All in all, one needs a sequel, two have fine makings of one, one doesn’t, and two already are getting’em.

Nexas: It would be intresting to see Jack-Jack all grown up. He would have a stylish hair cut, definetly a boyish voice instead of a baby, but he would still be a tiny dude.

The name of Remy’s mother is Desiree.

I must admit that I would like to have seen her in the film. It’s a shame that she had to be shoved into the backround, where she eventually faded out, but I can see why she was omitted from the final production. Her appearance would have been of no significance.

– Mitch

Well, i would like to see Desiree in a sequel, it at all possible. It would be nice to see Remy’s mom instead of dad for a change.

I love A Bug’s Life to bits, but I just can’t see a sequel there…It’s got such a complete, satisfying ending that to continue after that would just be a bit stale. It’s the same for Finding Nemo, really- Nemo’s been found. 'Nuf said.

The Incredibles I’m sort of half and half with- on the one hand, there is a definite potential for storyline, but on the other hand, by the looks of things, a new villain would have to be introduced, and I can’t help but think that it wouldn’t be the same without Syndrome, since he’s the only villain who we are able to see right from his youth.

Monsters, Inc. is, for me, the one that seems to have the most chance with a sequel in the sense that there are a few slight cliffhangers, and Pixar managed to develop an alternate universe so extensively that it would be a shame for it to be left behind. There are so many chances for adding backstory to all of the main characters, and yeah, I’d love to see what happens to Randall. There’s just no closure for us Randall fans- anything could have happened to him.

I would leave Cars as it is- Lightning’s personality and growth came full circle in the original, so I think going back would be a little unnecessary since what happens after the film seems quite predictable. The characters are great; it’s just the storyline I’d be worried about.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Cars is having a sequel?!? I have a hard time believing that…

I have a very hard time believing it, too. :unamused:

I think it came from the supposed new Cars short film that Paul Newman spilled the beans on a while back. Some people concluded that the supposed Cars 2 sequel could have been a way to detect who is letting confidential information slip at Pixar… That’s what I think. I tried to get more answers over at the Cars board in regards to evidence to the sequel, but no-one over there wants to face up to the fact that it might not be true, because my question got ignored…
