Do any of you like the films based on Dr. Seuss books? My favorite for entertainment-wise would be The Cat in the Hat. That was very funny. As for critic-wise I would pick Horton. The Grinch is my least favorite in all catogories, but I still like it.

I like The Grinch for Jim Carrey mainly, and I haven’t seen the other two adaptions. It really captures the feel of a Dr. Seuss creation. The books are better, though.

I take it that you’re referring to the live-action films, The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and the computer animated film, Horton Hears a Who! In that case, I’ll say right now that I did not like the first two films at all, although I will admit that The Cat in the Hat did have some pretty hilarious moments – that was the problem with it, though: It was too crude, in my opinion. Horton Hears a Who! is the only book-to-film adaption of a Dr. Seuss book that I felt really lived up to its predecessor, and even that one garnered quite a few changes.

I have yet to see a Dr. Seuss film that I really like. One will probably come along eventually, but until then
I’ll patiently wait for a worthy adaption. (Horton was really good, though. Heh.)

Well, out of the three movies listed, I like The Grinch the best. However, I don’t like the live-action versions. I gotta go with the original.

My favorite was The Grinch. I like watching it more than the others.

Cat in the Hat was funny, too. I thought it had great entertainment value.

I didn’t like Horton Hears a Who!, but that could be because I’m bias against non-Pixar animated films.

I really enjoyed Horton Hears a Who!. I think Blue Sky did a great job. I dislike the live-action adaptations, but like the cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Classic.

I was pretty young when I saw The Cat in the Hat in theaters, and didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I should have. I’ve heard that it contains a lot of adult humor, so I’m sure that if I was to watch it again, it would be much more funny. However, for a Dr. Seuss movie, the adult humor should be kept to a minimum.

I’m a pretty big fan of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I loved the story when I was little, and the animated film is wonderful. I would say that it’s my favorite, except there are few things that make me laugh EVERY time I hear them, but “In my world, everyone’s a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!”

Well, my all time favorite feature-length Dr. Seuss movie has to be Horton Hears a Who!. I haven’t seen Ron Howard’s The Grinch or Mike Myers’ The Cat in the Hat in a while, but I don’t remember liking either of them. The Grinch nearly worked for me because it was a slightly twisted adaptation, but it never achieved being like the book or being a total original vision of it. The Cat in the Hat did have some very adult humor, and some of it was funny, but it wasn’t really anything like the book.

Now, I don’t care if I’m in a minority here, but I loved Horton. The animation was great, the voice acting was funny and the last half of it was really well done. In my eyes, the only feature-length adaptation that lives up to the book. They kept in everything that was in the book and only added stuff to make it work as an 80 minute movie. As for the original shorts, I love them all, but The Lorax is a masterpiece. If you haven’t seen it, then seek it out.

Horton is the best because it is visually the closest to Seuss’ original illustrations.

Horton Hears a Who! is probably my favorite. I didn’t really like the live- action ones that much. They just don’t seem like the original books.

Horton was the closest medium (animation) to the books. The Grinch was awful in my opinion, and I haven’t seen The Cat in the Hat. The best is the cartoon Grinch. Always a holiday favorite.

Horton was decent.

The other two were terrible.

Do you know Mrs. Geisel (His wife) actually said “No more live action films” because of how many inappropriate jokes were in them?

The Cat in the Hat had almost curse words (“Son of a-” “Out of her-”), the cat apologizing for calling a gardening tool a “dirty h*” and then kissing it, as well as the cat being quite malicious and down right horrible. That is just TOO MUCH for a Dr. Seuss film.

And rightfully so. Those films, especially Cat in the Hat, come off as almost perverted.

The Grinch had a little of that vulgarity, too, didn’t fit with the charming nature of the Seuss books.

Horton Hears a Who! is DEFINITELY my favorite. I really don’t like the other two. HTGSC really took out the mystery of the Grinch for me. And I REALLY didn’t like its version of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”. It
lost its charm entirely. And come on, that deep Tony the Tiger voice was so great combined with those disgusting lyrics. “Your heart is full of unwashed socks” sounded splendid in the original cartoon. And Cat in the Hat was quite disgusting.

I saw Horton during a church youth movie night. It was directly after stopping Disaster Movie, and it was so soothing after such an atrocity. It’s the only one of the three that I really, truly like and actually retains Dr. Seuss charm. And Katie is just too weird and cute to behold. Everyone seems to love her “In my world
” moment. I even made a stamp of it on DA and it suddenly became my most popular deviation! [url]Bat-Snake - Hobbyist, General Artist | DeviantArt
Horton was just SO charming as well. I grew up listening to his deep, baritone voice from the PC games, so that was weird for me. But he was still SO sweet. And Carol Burnett was in it. COME ON! How awesome is THAT?!

“Yes, she’s sending a bunny with cookies. THE BAD VLAD!”

Put short films up there too, please.

Ralph Bakshi’s The Butter Battle Book was pure genius. It kept me up all night after viewing it. It took my favorite Dr. Seuss book and made it even better
and made the end of it 100x more terrifying than it was in book form.

I say we get a feature-length Butter Battle adaption
directed by HENRY SELICK! I can see that now.

I love Horton Hears a Who!, I went in expecting to be mildly entertained for 90 minutes, and came out thinking it was one of my favourite films of the year.

I remember thinking The Grinch was ok, but I think I was around that age where any kids film entertained me. I haven’t seen The Cat in the Hat, and have no interest in watching it after reading some reviews on it.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the only one I’ve seen, but I love it.
