Sorry Dreamworks, still looks disappointing. One thing I notice lately is that their colour palette is incredibly muted (ref: How To Train Your Dragon), compared to the richness and vibrancy of Pixar or Blue Sky’s. I wonder why. I mean, it’s not like it takes significantly longer time to colour-callibrate or give it a nicer tint, is it?
And the background music is distracting, awful, and too reminiscent of the earlier movies’ rock-pop soundtracks. I understand you want to give it the same ‘feel’ as the predecessors, but since this is apparently the last chapter, shouldn’t you be going for a more epic, grander, ‘this-is-it-here-we-go-out-with-a-bang’ kinda feel? Case study: Princess and the Frog Trailer 1. That’s how to tell the audience that this is how we’re going to end the great saga, not some ‘here-we-go-again’ kinda mood.
And the plot just reminds me of Bruce Almighty, Click, and especially The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.
And really, the Puss in Boots ‘big-eyes’ joke is getting old.
But even a Puss in Boots movie looks much more exciting than this. How many ‘life-lessons’ does Shrek have to learn?
I’d like to see you prove me wrong, Dreamworks. I really do, seeing as the first Shrek is one of my favourite ‘spoof’ movies.
Dreamworks sucks. If this movie fails, and Toy Story 3 makes millions, I’ll consider this a win. Otherwise, if Shrek 4 succeeds, I’ll probably hang myself.
Better not make that bet so soon. This film will probably make squillions based on the fact it’s marketed as the ‘final chapter’ (though rumours say it will go beyond just 4) and that Shrek has a large in-built fanbase who will probably go see this even though the series has been declining since the first.
Of course, I’d love Dreamworks to prove me wrong, but I’m personally giving my money to the ‘Whatsis-name-Stitch-Dragon’ movie.
I have to say that Dreamworks’ film obviously don’t compare to Pixar’s… but that’s not such a valid reason to say they suck. They’ve made some pretty cool films.
I’ve never been too keen on Shrek (heck, when I was little I got invited to see the first by some friend… left halfway through.) but I’ll… give this one a chance…
Alright, I’ll be honest here. The ‘Where’s My Witches At’ and ‘Bake No Prisoners’ lines made me LMButtO. But the others (especially ‘inflation’ Puss) just made me groan. In agony.
I really hope Shrek ends on a high note. Because if it doesn’t, I’ll just feel sorry for him.
Shrek 3/Dreamworks snarkiness summed up in this comic (and a little innuendo never hurt anyone in my book all the same, though it gets old if it’s all there EVER is):
(The getting back refers to an earlier prank for the confused).
I didn’t care for the third movie much myself. I thought the first one was the best, I liked the 2nd in its own way (but… I find I can rewatch the first more more. I can’t do the same for the second for some reason).
I’ll probably watch this one… eventually. But I’m not going to be ‘first in line’. Heck, I only watched the third because of a friend.
Yup, I saw you posted that comic in another thread mentalguru, but boy is it funny! Thanks for the link!
A buttload of new promos, people.
First up, posters.
English theatrical
French threatical (According to my rudimentary knowledge of French, the tagline should mean “It’s hair-raising!”)
And they both look like a student project’s photo composites…
A new featurette and animated poster (you might want to turn the volume down, since the poster auto-loads). Of all the things they could’ve discussed (character animation, story development, vocal talent), they had to pick a pop-culture dance number.
And finally, a brand new trailer. It’s much better than the first, but only cos’ they reveal more jokes. The plot can best be described as ‘[spoil]Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause[/spoil]’ meets ‘[spoil]The Fugitive[/spoil]’ meets ‘[spoil]Robin Hood[/spoil]’ ([spoil]The 2010 Russell Crowe version[/spoil]). With a little of [spoil]feline ‘Norbit’[/spoil] thrown in.
The last punchline killed me, though. But sorry, [spoil]Bolt[/spoil] already did that catchphrase.
Eh, I definitely won’t see it. The jokes look pretty tired and the plot still seems like they’re running out of ideas. Looks better than 3, but that’s not saying a lot. Besides, I’m boycotting Viacom, so I couldn’t see it if I wanted to.
Heya, I happen to be the unfriendly neigbourhood optimist!
But as much as I want to back Dreamworks on this one (Gasp, he’s consorting with the enemy!), my hopes are rapidly dwindling with each successive release of promo materials.
(I’d suggest skipping to the last two, as they are a bit more serious and are the best arguments against Viacom)
Or, to summarize, Viacom has been taking a lot of morally questionable lawsuits against YouTube, some of them against videos that in no way violate copyright laws, and despite the fact that they’ve committed copyright violation themselves pretty badly (See last video).
Those last Puss and Donkey pun joke made me want to shake my head.
And I’m the person who actually makes stupid puns and KNOWS they’re not funny.
You know, like the fact Sulley from Monsters Inc is one of my favourite characters yet he potentially “Sulleyed” his relationship with Boo by exiling Randall.
And that Randall gets “Bogged” down in things too much.
-Everybody groans-
-Somewhere I hear a gun being loaded-
The difference is however, I type out such puns/terrible jokes and also indicate quite clearly that I am hanging my head in shame or say that I should be dragged out and shot for making it (as I should be!). Everyone KNOWS these puns aren’t funny including me. Or rarely are. I’ve never come across a pun which was. It’s basic meta-humour that I know they aren’t so I make fun of myself for doing them, but this trailer looks like they’re making out that those PUNS they are making are ACTUALLY funny.)
(Blasphemy!)
(If there IS a funny pun, it is an endangered species and must be studied.)
