Everything seems better with snark! Just like when the actual people make mistakes and are critiqued they should learn/make use of it, terrible sequels can provide great material for humour. As can fandom in general! There’s a silver lining to everything*! Sometimes you can learn a lot more by what not to do when people make mistakes like Shrek 3 or things which disappointed you in some way. You can ask: “why did this disappoint me?” And realise it when doing your own thing what to look out for.
But yeah, Shrek 3 wasn’t great, so I’m not holding my breath for movie 4, and it seems like they haven’t learned from their mistakes in Shrek 3 from the trailer.
Re: Viacom discussion
I’ll check the videos a bit more later about the issue, but yeah I heard about the youtube thing (using users videos right?) From someone I follow on DevArt. Shame.
The odd thing is- they also cut out MVs (music videos) right (not just people uploading)? I found that kind of strange sometimes. I mean when I see a good MV I often want to buy the song that goes with it (and I’ll usually (eventually) get/already have the series on it on DVD or something because I obviously like it enough to look for the MVs, so I would totally do that eventually!)
Sometimes MVs however I randomly come across accidentally make me see a series, realise it looks interesting, I’ll look into it, and perhaps buy it too. That’s sometimes how I even find out at all about new series/show/whatever.
Also if I really like a song I see/hear, even though I have little editing talent at all, I’ll often imagine fanvideo MV scenes to it in my head if I think it fits in even the smallest possible way, usually to Monsters Inc or Avatar: TLA . This happens more often then it should.
What?! I’m not the only one wthout video making skills who does that!
Thanks for the links, Rac_Rules. Wow, watching that makes me real mad. So it’s these $%& of &!^&@ who have removed my videos and banned my previous account? (And I’m sure I’m not the only one here) I’m gonna spread this video any way I can (through FB, Favourites, etc.). They’re not gonna get away with this (I’m not being sarcastic, I mean this because they’ve accused me of copyright infringement too).
But - while I’m all for passive resistance, I don’t think wholesale boycotting of their products is the way to go. There are animators, writers, and filmmakers who truly believe in their craft, and make it to entertain people like us. To not back them simply because the distributor is a jerk is not really fair, and I will continue to support Nickelodeon, Dreamworks and MTV if their products deserve it (ex How to Train Your Dragon, Avatar: The Last Airbender TV series, King of the Hill, etc.)
Although, I laughed at that last bit of Viacom shooting its own foot with Dragons in the third video! You FAIL!
mentalguru - It’s despicable, isn’t it? They attack us for using footage that is legal under the Fair Use law, yet they pinch others’ work and make money out of it! We are giving free advertising to good films/TV shows/music, and what do we get for it? Removed videos, banned channels, and even court summons! What is this world coming to?
Oh, and you’re not the only one (where you hear a good piece of music and try to ‘match’ it to your fandom). I think it’s the ‘curse’ us fanvidders have.
Sorry to have drifted off-topic. Maybe I should set up a separate thread to discuss this whole debacle.
I don’t get it - is DreamWorks into inflation art? What with fat!Puss in Boots… D: I’ve noticed it has crept into the most innocent of things lately… not even Mario is spared. DDDDD:
ugh I hate that loathsome fad
But anyway, I’d watch Shrek 4 anyway because it can and it may be actually enjoyable…
Over on Nick.com, there’s a side-scroller game called ‘Ogre Resistance.’ Guide Shrek on his epic quest to save ‘Far Far Away’ from the evil clutches of Rumpelstilskin. Collect coins, push random boulders, and get your *ss kicked by, well, an *ss. Vive la revolución!
Naturally, I walk Shrek right into the traps, just to see him suffer. Jolly good fun!
Me too! Funniest.Film.Of.The.Year. Yeah, right! Toy Story 3 will whoop their backs!
Personally, I think DreamWorks have killed this franchise. The first Shrek was cool, the second was good too, but by the third I got bored. But might as well see this one as I’ve seen all the others (and how they’ll put this saga to bed).
Shrek is great
Shrek 2 is great
Shrek 3 is garbage
This one doesn’t look very good,
IMO they should of ended it at 2. Shame they had to heavily water down which was a great little franchise.
It’s always annoyed me when a critic callsl a movie, “the funniest movie of the year” when the year isn’t even half way over yet. I know it’s all about hype and getting people to see it, but I still find it annoying.
I have no interest in seeing this movie. I always use to shake my head when I saw this trailer before HTTYD. And there was a trailer that I saw recently with new footage, and the jokes were so lame…“redonkulous.” It’s like they didn’t even try. I can’t image that the folks behind this movie actually thought that that over used slang was funny. The same applys for when one of the pigs gets smack in the duff by a towel and says, “this little piggy wants to go home!” Just by looking at the trailer, it seems like the people behind this movie didn’t even try when it comes to most of the “jokes.” It seems like they came up with the easiest most obvious “jokes” around for certain situations. I hope the reactions to HTTYD has made Jeffrey rethink Dreamworks approach to making movies. Hopefully he’ll make the demand that most of their up coming movies get some retooling.
