Because just the idea of putting some of the greatest animated movies of all times away for 6-8 years is really stupid.
You’ve all heard of the Disney Vault, right? More information here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Spe … Vault_DVDs
The idea is that Disney puts some of their greatest animated films away in a vault for a long year period, so they can “keep them fresh for future generations”. Like every other studio with some of the greatest films ever made.
Well, it annoys us Disney fans, and I think we should put a stop to it.
Where do I even begin with all the problems that the vault gives us? Well, like I said, this is putting classic, beloved, masterpieces into a vault for 6-8 years. If you don’t buy them at some point, they go away for years. If you’re goning collect Disney films, then make sure you don’t miss classics like One Hundred and One Dalmatians in probably 2014 (my personal pet peve of the Disney Vault). This vault makes it so we have to resort to our videos, pirate copies, or any online copies, if we can get any.
If you could sign this and maybe pass it around, we could all stop this stupid charade. There’s a good chance we won’t succeed, but the key word is “Try”.
I like the Vault. It makes me feel all special and excited about finding an old movie! Plus, it helps make some Disney movies really valuable. It’s an excellent marketing scheme.
Sure the fact that we don’t get to see Disney films after their initial release is a bit annoying, but I embrace it if it means that the original films aren’t altered to the creators’ hearts’ content (ala Star Wars).
If there are any supposed sexual messages in the films (ever heard of those?) they probably edited them out in newer releases.
By the way, are the Fantasia films going into the vault in the uk any time soon?
The Platinum Editions of Beauty & The Beast and The Lion King did have some alterations, I believe. The most notable thing is that they both had brand new sequences added for their re-releases to include some songs deleted from the film. For Beauty & The Beast it was “Human Again”, and for The Lion King it was “Morning Report”. The Lion King had some small stuff re-animated in certain scenes like the singing crocodiles in “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” (for what reason, I don’t know) and a waterfall in “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”. As far as I know, Beauty & The Beast only had a background edit when The Beast was having a bath (which would have now taken place right after aforementioned song), the reason being that they had just cleaned the castle up in the song and the walls were originally messy and torn up. And yes, they were also making edits to clear the films of their “supposed” subliminal messages, changing The Lion King’s “SEX” dust and The Little Mermaid’s, um… well I won’t get into that. I don’t think Aladdin got any alterations though. Just improved picture quality, and only a sound edit in the scene with Aladdin’s questionable line (plus in one of the DVD commentaries, Musker and Clements not only acknowledged that but made it clear that it was false).
Back on topic: I actually remember being late in getting the Platinum Edition of The Lion King and got it in a hurry cause of knowing about the Disney Vault. I never really understood the vault, but I never tried to either. It was just there.
Exactly. It’s the same thing when they decided to leave the N word out of new editions of Huckleberry Finn. I’m not promoting the N word, but you just can’t rewrite history. We have to remember words like that because of what they symbolize, and we will learn not to repeat horrible treatment to a group of peoples.
I thought that when a movie went in there, it was forever. I think it’s kind of stupid to put a movie in a vault so you can’t even buy it without getting it used. You should be able to buy any movie at any time. They can’t just say, “Oops, it’s in the vault, you can’t buy it anymore.” They shouldn’t have a voice in what you buy and don’t buy. Sorry if I’m annoying, but it really bugs me.
I hate the vault, they basically want you to hurry up and buy the movie before its gone. Its a great marketing scheme from them.
But yeah I hate when they edit the original films. I still have my old Lion King VHS tape, because the newer dvds they made the morning report into a song. And its so annoying. I wish Disney left their films alone.
I think the vault is stupid. It would make more sense to have the films avaible all the time! Plus disney don’t like people reselling their DVD’s(e.g Lion king) for very high prices on ebay.
