Punched anyone in the face for calling animation a genre yet?
Doubt it. He wouldn’t be the first to do so, though…it’s an old topic.
Well shoot.
Mind if you point me toward the old topic then?
He means that this debate/argument has been going on for years, far before Brad Bird said that. I dunno if anyone has actually made a topic about it on the forums before.
Those words have stayed with me ever since I first heard them and now I realize just how many people think animation IS a genre.
It’s especially annoying when you go to a movie web site, like say Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s listed as such. Of course, it’s easier to search for animated films that way. >_>

Why don’t you just meet Brad Bird and say that animation is a genre to his face then see what happens…?
Haha yeah XD I reckon his friends should prank him. When he enters the workplace, they all manage to slip in the phrase “animation is a genre” to his face all day…
yeah most people consider animation to be its own genre unfortunately. That’s how they’re always classified, except in some instances when they’re classified as family films or kids films.
I’d love to see that!
If he does punch someone in the face for saying animation is a genre, then good on him! I would punch someone too.
But really, I actually really do hate it when people say animation is a genre, it’s like saying live-action is a genre.
What I want to know is, is there a game at Pixar called “Let’s Bug Brad,” where the other directors make sure at least once in their films a character goes, “Yessss!” Somewhere among the Ratatouille behind-the-scenes stuff there’s a bit of Patton Oswalt doing the “Yesss!” fist-pump, then he and Brad talk about how Brad hates it when people do that in movies. I’ve noticed since then that Russell does it twice in Up, and Ken does it in TS3.
And BURN-E does it in BURN-E
Hahahahahahahaha! Let’s Bug Brad! Love it.
Hahaha, I didn’t know that guys, thanks! Maybe Tom Cruise should do a fist-pump in the upcoming MI4 directed by Mr Bird?
YEESSS!!!
Brad Bird one step further away from returning to Pixar any time soon:
It isn’t?
OH GOD PLEASE DON’T SHOOT ME—
shot
gack. Bullet. Penetrating. My heart.
falls down dead
Also, he’s working with Disney on some Tron Legacy rewrites.
However, he’s currently working on a project at Pixar as well.
I haven’t punched anyone yet, but I’ve discussed a lot with some professors at my university.
That quote from Brad Bird remains one of my favorites ever.
Quote of the century!
