Just got back from it. good stuff all around. I didnt pick up on as many changes/enhancements as I expected to, but I’ll point out the few I did.
the stars in the gas station scene were smaller, more plentiful in toy story.
and was it just me, or did they change the audio track a bit in places? like the moment where sid is first heard saying “yes! ahahaha” I dunno it sounded like a different take from the voice actor or something.
In fact I think I noticed more differences in audio than anything. in general its been cleaned up quite a bit. Ive always thought the dialogue sounded a bit tinny, like the actors were talking too loud into the mics. but they seemed to have smoothed things out a bit. then again this could be credited to my speaker set up. still, I think at least some changes were made here.
I think I noticed more detail under the truck in the gas station, and more detailed vegitation in sid’s backyard. again, I’m not sure. hard to tell without side by side comparisons.
what surprised me was what they didnt change / fix. I heard they fixed some shots where clipping occured, such as woody’s leg going through the bed spread. but I couldn’t remember where exactly it was in the movie to look for it.
what I did notice was the shot where Andy is reunited with woody and buzz his hand goes completly through the back of buzz’s jet pack thing in an obvious way, I cant unsee it since it was pointed out to me, and its no different here. that was something I was positive they’d fix but they didnt.
I saw virtually no changes in TS2 outside of the obvious opening title cards.
speaking of which, I really did miss the old castle logo in the first one. the second one too, but the first especially since its supposed to fade into the wall.
I got to go see it tonight. And man, I didn’t expect the crowd to be what it was.
It was mostly adults. A few adults with children, and then my group of 8 teenagers.
We were lucky to get the TS3 trailer, Before the movie. My friend said she was confused because, why were we watching a trailer for the movies we were about to see? And then she learned For those who didn’t get to see it at their theaters, or for those who haven’t seen it yet, you are going to wet your pants, its extremely funny.
I loved the beginning when they were explaining what a double feature is about. It was an awesome 2D intro, and I wish I could just a posters of the characters in that form in my room.
Toy Story numero 1 was awesome. The 3D was used to perfection and didn’t take away any aspect of the movie. In fact, it added to it. It is Crazy clear and unforgettable.
Intermission was fun, although, I wish there were some harder trivia My friends didn’t know though, so they looked bewildered at me when questions like: “What was Woody originally cast as?” and “What was Buzz Lightyear originally to be called?” I did like the Hamm question and “What does Buzz Lightyear say before he flies?” Hamm’s response is awesome. Again, if you didn’t get to see these, go find them. I also had fun watching the Toy Story Treats on the big screen as to watching them on my TV.
Toy Story Two is just FANTASTIC! I noticed a TON more in this than I did without the clear quality that I own. Oddly enough, I can focus on other things more with the 3D than in the Flat-D versions.
I was the only one who clapped at the end, but hey. I was also the one who knew all the questions ;D
speaking of treats, how many new ones total were there? I remember two, but I left to use the bathroom during toy story’s credits. I thought for sure I’d make it too…did they speed it up or something? anyway, when I got back I saw they had already started the intermission.
the new toy story treats, ie not the ones already in the dvds, I remember were the one with jessie and woody dancing and messing up, and one with bullseye. am I missing any others?
also, I agree about noticing more, theres a lot of subtle things I didnt expect to notice or laugh at. things Ive seen a million times, but somehow noticed something new. like the kid who punches another kid randomly in the face or shoulder when mom says its time for presents. so random and funny.
there’s also a lot of subtle acting I didn’t see before.
Its not like I don’t look in the background either when on smaller screens, but its true you really don’t notice a lot of things when you watch on a smaller screen. and at 50 inches my tv is nothing to sneeze at.
of course, the movies aren’t available in HD yet, but you get my point.
Yeah, the intermission seems to be different everywhere, I was expecting to see TS trivia and shorts, but didn’t get it at all so I’m hoping that soon the clips and what not will be online so I can see them.
Saw it Friday evening. What a beauty! The 15 year old masterpiece looked amazing. I was a tiny bit disappointed that there wasn’t any ‘coming off/out of the screen’ kind of effects, similar to the Ping Pong ball in Dreamworks’ Monsters VS Aliens - I was expecting Rex’s entrance to have this effect for example - but the detail on the aliens, the rain and view through Andy and Sid’s windows, the feeling of being in Sid’s bag on his journey home and the smoke etc during the truck chase amongst some other moments really impressed me. Oh - and when Woody was holding the staff meeting, I actually felt like I was in a press confrence with Woody addressing me for a few magical seconds!
Friday night was also the first time I saw Toy Story on the big screen - it was going to be my first cinema trip as a child, but I chickened out as I was afraid of the dark so hat honour went to Space Jam
Saw it opening night, I relived my childhood in 3 1/2 hours. In the beginning of the First movie I was slightly choked up. The 3D was not what I expected but was still good for a movie that wasnt intended for a jump out at you 3D experience.
One thing I did notice was that in the First movie, Potato head didnt have a backdoor. Interesting huh?
The coming out at you gags are exactly what turns a lot of people away from 3d in the first place. that is why pixar is doing the opposite with thieir movies. it has nothing to do with the movies not being designed for them, UP was the same way, and I wouldnt have it any other way. it comes off as really gimmicky when they pull that crap. leave that to the theme parks, keep it subtle in actual movies.
So yeah, I dont get why I kepe hearing this same complaint. my mom said the same thing about toy story. the second was indeed more 3d, but that only happened naturally due to being in more open envirnments and extreme camera angles.
Great News! I’m going to see it again this Friday and yet again on Monday! Since Lee Unkrich posted that he fixed all the “problem” theaters, and since I told him that my local one was one of them, I hope to see the trailer this time around! I can’t wait!
Just got back! I loved it! The Toy Story 3 Trailer was hilarious! The 3D was great, and I had a good time! Me and my dad loved the triva,my dad got em all right! I loved the Toy Story 2 intro “in 3D!” And the torture Sid gave Woody and Buzz is like nothing compared to [spoil]the babies at the daycare[/spoil]
I dont know about that, your comparing a lot of slobber and general rough play to to actual fire, explosions, decapitations etc. the kids at the day care while scary from thier perspective is just what they were designed for. their doing their job. its just what Molly did to Mr Potatohead in toy story but with more kids with more energy.
I mentioned this in my other thread, but it belongs here more. Lee Unkrich just announced that the double feature has been doing so well, their going to extend its theatrical run. by how long he wouldn’t say. Maybe it depends on the theater?
But at the very least I assume another week or so.
I gotta say, that’s absolutely great to hear. I’ve heard a lot of people complain about them milking money out of this, but really, it’s to bring Toy Story to another generation like it was originally delivered, and it’s to promote TS3, and I think it’s a brilliant idea. I’ve gone to the Double Feature twice so far, and I might end up going again.
That’s great! It’s always a bit uncertain how a re-release of an older film or films will do in the cinema, but to hear that it’s done so well that the theatrical run is going to be extended is very encouraging, especially for the prospects of Toy Story 3.
Well, my theater didn’t have it anymore tonight, saw Cloudy and Wild Things with my mom, just got back. My theater had Up for 6 weeks, a bit shorter than most big theaters.
You all seem to be having a good time with the Double Feature. Here in the UK, we’re getting the films in 3D seperatly. I missed the first one and now I’m making sure I see the second one in 3D, which comes out January 2010.
There is a silver lining though. At least I won’t have to wait long for Toy Story 3 after I see Toy Story 2 in 3D.
