Someone explain Star Wars to me.

Now I don’t want you to tell me what it’s about, I just made that topic so you’d

click on it saying what a n00b. LOL.

What I actually want to know is, does anyone know of a bix 6 disc box

set coming out, and if not, can anyone tell me ofer where I can get the movies individually, but each DVD must

have similar covers, like a kinda collection thing. Not just random releases. Thanks.

No idea…Actually, I wouldn’t mind a summary of Star Wars myself.

I’m sure George Lucas will do one eventually, but right now, there is no sign of one.

There’s definitely no such thing immediately slated for

sale. And if it’s not out right now, then I’d say your best bet is to wait for an anniversary of some sort,

because then he can justify a special _____th anniversary edition, or whatever. 30th anniversary of A New Hope

is coming up in May (hence the Celebration IV convention in Los Angeles, which I’m STILL kicking myself that I

can’t go because I have to graduate from college). Maybe at like, the 10th

anniversary of the release of The Phantom Menace, which is a couple of years down the road, he’ll release a

ginormous boxed set of the entire series. But no new releases are likely to come out any time soon, since he

just released the unaltered Original Trilogy this month. He knows he can milk a ton of money out of us, the

fans, but not all at once.

As it stands, all the most recent covers match. Personally, I reccommend

buying the individual DVDs he just released, because while you don’t get the bonus materials DVD, you get the

original releases in addition to his modified, tofued up versions. I think the print on the binding is all in

the same colour (that being gold), though if you want to get the boxed set, the widescreen OT DVDs are printed in

silver, which doesn’t quite match the Prequel releases on the shelf… but let’s face it, I like widescreen

better so I’ll deal with the silver lettering.

And yes, I know more about Star Wars than is probably

healthy for me. It’s all good.

Well you see LG, a long time ago, in a

galaxy far far away…

~~=oP

You see, that’s EXACTLY the

amount of information I got from the films. Well, that, and the whole ‘I’m your father’ thing.

I was gearing up

for huge philosophical explanation to the whole series, until Luxo just wanted to know about the

DVDs.

Personally, I bought each of the Prequels individually widescreen, so they are Golden Spined, I -

III. Each of them have two discs.

Now back in 2004, I also bought the Original Trilogy DVDs, widescreen,

so they have individual boxes spined IV - VI. Mind you, they are different colors, but I think it’s wise to

separate the two Trilogies. They are two great epic stories of one HUGE Saga.

If you DO get the Original

Trilogy DVDs from 2004, be prepared that they have been modified by Lucas a second/third time. I feel that he

does have some artisitc justification to this, and I’m quite fine with the changes. But I’m not so sure if you

prefer this or not. If that’s the case, then I’d get this year’s DVDs.

Mind you, there is also some

speculation that the next time he DOES release the entire Saga in One Boxed Set, that the Yoda of Episode I will

be re-edited from the New Puppet to the CGI version. Mind you, that’s the only change I’ve heard of. They

intend on keeping the V-VI Yoda the same - No changes for that puppet! (Whew . . .)

So there you have it.

All I know about the Star Wars Saga DVD Boxed Set, set to come out someday . . . .

As much as I admit it’s Lucas’ perogative to edit his own films… for the love of Vader, I wish he

wouldn’t. Mind you, not all the changes were bad. The colour cleanup is gorgeous, the digital replacement of

Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in ESB was a good move, stuff like that. However, random dialogue changes, changing

Boba Fett’s voice, stuff along that vein… arrrgh. Makes me sad.

And so,

to ease my pain, I’ll just go back and play Knights of the Old Republic, because the story is fantastic and

it’s just a ton of Star Wars-y fun.

Thanks DWH and Phoenician. I’m going to get my friend to loan me all 6 for me to see first.

Then I will proceed with trying to locate similarly boxed versions. But like you said, I-III is seperate from

IV-VI. :unamused:

Thing

is, if you never seen all of the movies before (have you?), do you intend on seeing them in chronological order

(I-VI), or be theatrial release (IV-III)??

If you see them chronologically the first time around, I’d be

very interested to see how you think of the Saga. Most people have seen in IV-III, and I’d be very intruiged to

hear people’s reactions who first experience Star Wars I-VI!!

See, I don’t know how I feel about

that. I mean… it’d certainly change the way you look at the prequels. But I had the joy of introducing a

friend of mine to the Saga last January (one movie a night for a week!), and I told her that in Star Wars land,

we count 4 5 6 1 2 3. I am admittedly a die-hard OT fan, as evidenced by the giant Return of the Jedi poster

hanging over my desk. Though the prequels had better posters, actually… which is why I have posters for both

Attack of the Clones (in IMAX!) and The Phantom Menace hanging in my room, too. The TPM teaser poster is one of

the best-designed posters in the Star Wars canon. Don’t like the movie, but I’ve had that poster for 7

years.

Also, skip the Clone Wars cartoons if you find them on DVD. They’re bad. Many, many levels of

bad. The only part worth watching is the two seconds when Anakin Skywalker is hit by a log.

I’m not really a fan of Star Wars. But I really, really love their lightsabers and their

lightsaber battles.

I’ve always just seen it in

countdowns shows of 100 greatest whatever, and, I just love the way it looks.

The prequels are very, very pretty films. I would work

for Industrial Light and Magic in a heartbeat. And the original three, while not as shiny, still are pretty

visually awesome considering when they were made, and are better films anyway.

The best lightsaber

duels, however, are in Episode III. Hands down. They’re so spectacular I will put them on to watch without

bothering with the rest of the film.

LOL,

yeah, I heard the original, it was made of glass, and everysingle hit it shattered, so they had to get a new one

for the new hit. LOL. You think they would have thought of a better way, obviously, glass was the only way to

make the actors looks like it had some weight.

Moreover, they’re choreographed much better in the prequels in general, and the Episode III

duels are just so visually stunning. I could write a paper just on the use of colours in those duels.

Fabulous.

However, the OT is just better. Better film, better dialogue, better story… not quite as

pretty, but I’ll deal with the lack of SHINY.
