I may not speak for everyone, but i’m sure everyone here was a fan of Toy Story as a kid, and grew up with it etc. And still liked it throughout teenaged years, like me.
But did people that you know of, your friends, or people you just generally know, absolutely never ever mention or reference the Toy Story movies at all once from around age 8 upwards i’d say. Until the trailer of the 3rd one came on, then all of a sudden all of your friends and people in general always loved Toy Story up untill ___ (however old your age group is) years old. Started talking about it, anming them among their favourite movies etc…even though they ignored it for about 8-9 years and kind of scoffed if it was mentioned considering it’s something you and they watched when you were a kid (so at the time, you therefore couldn’t watch it because your too old).
I surely did (hence why I’m asking), so IF it did, did it get you quite irritated somewhat?
I think that most people kind of started to look at it as a kid’s movie, even though it appealed to adults when it was released. But since they saw it as kids, they remembered it as being for kids. So when the 3rd one came out, people remembered what they loved about the originals and that spark was ignited again!
I stopped being a fan of Toy Story and began to be into Star Wars. Once I “grew out of” Star Wars, I got right back into animation, rewatched a ton of my favorite childhood films, and decided Toy Story is the best movie ever made. So yeah, I wasn’t a fan for several years, but that doesn’t make me less of a fan now.
It wasn’t really annoying to me. I think it was great that it become cool again to be a Toy Story fan. It is people just remembering the films they loved as Children. I think most people go though phases of what they like and dislike, seeing Toy Story 3 Trailer brought back Nostalgia that drove them to the movie. I think that same nostalgia wouldn’t of come from seeing a previous Pixar film trailer that is not a sequel.
That was probably one of Toy Story 3’s goals; to appeal to the original audience (some of the mature themes also support this). Again, it’s not a bad thing that Toy Story is re-appealing itself to people. I mean, aside from nostalgia, the people realize that they’re timeless pieces that can apply to any age group. I’ll only be irritated if Toy Story memorabilia starts selling at Hot Topic.
