“The story of the last Seal Child’s journey home. After their mother’s disappearance, Ben and Saoirse are sent to live with Granny in the city. When they resolve to return to their home by the sea, their journey becomes a race against time as they are drawn into a world Ben knows only from his mother’s folktales. But this is no bedtime story; these fairy folk have been in our world far too long. It soon becomes clear to Ben that Saoirse is the key to their survival.”
Just something I discovered randomly. With that, I’m off to bed. Tell me what you think of this etc. Just had to post it before I went to sleep.
I’ve been interested in this for over a year now. I still haven’t gotten to see The Secret of Kells (which I will be getting to sometime this year), but the premise and visuals have really piqued my interest.
I was kind of hoping that they would take a new approach visually for their next feature rather than something so similar to The Secret of Kells, but this still looks really good.
I’m wondering whether this is by the same team of directors, concept artist, writers, etc. that did Secret of the Kells, or is it just the studio’s way of maintaining art consistency? What I mean to say is, Disney has this ‘look’ for its films (traditional hand-drawn, angular lines, cel-shading), Pixar has a ‘look’ for its studio (clean CGI models, attention to detail, semi-realism), Animal Logic has a ‘look’ for its films (hyper-realism, cutting-edge special effects), Ghibli has a ‘look’ (wide-eyed heroines, stunning landscapes, etc.)… so is this studio going for its own distinctive mark?
Anyway, really interesting story from the teaser. I’m curious to know more.
Well, I’ll be on the lookout for this one. I’m always ready to be impressed by great animation. And if they include the aforementioned Vangelis track in its soundtrack, it may just be one of the best films this year!
