Specuation: How old is Daisy?

I know that we’ve discussed Lotso’s back story before, but there was something that really bothered me still. How old do you think Daisy is when Toy Story 3 takes place? I’ve heard a lot of discussion around the internet about varying ages, some say that she’s older than Emily and others say that she’s around Bonnie’s age. Any ideas?

EDIT: Also to the PP mods, if this topic has already been addressed, please link me to the correct topic and lock up this one.

Off the top of my head: I think when we see her in the flashback, Daisy is 4 or 5. The Lotso “commercial” that was online, and his “Care Bear”-ish vibe make him look like a toy from the 80s. Research on the fly says the Care Bears TV show begin in '85, and that’s also when the Teddy Ruxpin toy came out, so I’d date Lotso to the mid-to-later '80s. Given that, I’d put Daisy’s birth year around 1982. Depending on the year in which TS3 takes place, I’d say Daisy is now in her mid-to-later '20s. Notably older than Andy, and much younger than Emily (see theory below). Daisy could certainly be an appropriate age to have a child at Sunnyside, for whatever that’s worth.

Regarding Emily - I think she would have owned Jessie as a new toy, which puts her as a child in the '50s. (Sputnik was 1957, and as I recall, the views we got of Emily’s room suggested a '50s-to-'60s era - the “teenage” stuff that took over her room had a flower-power '60s vibe to it.) I would put Emily in her mid-to-later 50s at the time of TS3 - and Emily could certainly be an appropriate age to be the mother or aunt of Daisy, if we want to go there.

That’s just my take on things.

Yes, I agree with karly05. In the flashbacks we see, Daisy is probably the same age as Bonnie. However, considering those are flashbacks, and the fact that Lotso needs time to build up resentment, as well as time to take over Sunnyside, a lot of time must’ve gone by since the days of Daisy. At the setting of the film Daisy is very likely to be in her 20’s or 30’s.

It’s safe to assume Lotso’s from 1982, since that was the given date on the video. Daisy was born some time in the late 70’s. The question still remains for when Toy Story 3 takes place, although it’s most-likely from 2005.

I agree, but one more thing to notice is that she also has some Woody’s Roundup items (I remember a Jessie lunchbox), and since those items became highly collectable, that’s the only theory that makes sense.

I kind of agree with Karly05’s theory!

Yeah, I think that karly05’s theory does make a lot of sense as well, especially when you consider the vintage Lotso commercial. Hmmmmmm, although the one thing that I don’t quite agree with Daisy being older than 20 is that that would make Pizza Planet at least 40 years old. In the film it was shown with the exact same design and logo as the current one, and I’m fairly certain that if it was around in 1982 it would have had a different design. Also, I always thought that the restaurant was always a brand new thing in Toy Story, since it did have all of those modern video games and robotic door guards.

That’s a good point. I’m sure Pizza Planet justs evolves to fit every generation to stay in business.

It couldn’t have been that old, because Pizza Planet was previously the site of a French restaurant before it burned down years before. I’m assuming Pizza Planet must be pretty recent in Toy Story. I guess Lotso was a strong seller, and survived into the 90’s. That, or her parents just found it from a second-hand source.

I think it is logical that Pizza Planet’s logo stayed the same. For a corporate business the logo rarely changes except for tweaks here and there and that is especially true for McDonald’s logos and seeing as though Pizza Planet is like every fast food place and arcade rolled in to something insane I think taking the Mc approach to the logo was the right thing to do on Pixar’s part. Also we are thinking of around 1985 when Lotso flashbacks take place and that may be when Pizza Planet was just starting out and considering Toy Story came out and was set a decade after this it doesn’t seem right for a logo to change after only 10 years. The BBC logo hasn’t changed and BBC1 was the first ever television channel.

Aha, I didn’t know there was a date on the “Lotso Commerical” - thanks, Dinoco. That could put Daisy’s birth year as early as 1977-78. I could see Lotso being a popular toy for several years, though (maybe through most of the '80s). I think Daisy must have gotten Lotso as a new toy, though, since (should we put spoilers here?): [spoil]He was a Christmas present and looked all fresh and new at that point, and her parents were able to get a “replacement Lotso” when the first one was lost.[/spoil]

I have never heard the story of Pizza Planet being built on the site of a French restaurant - where’s that from?

I did some more “research,” and the original restaurant/arcade that became known as Chuck E Cheese opened in 1977, so Pizza Planet in some incarnation could go back nearly that far. PP would constantly be getting new games and updated decor/animatronics, so I don’t think the appearance of PP in the original TS means it always looked exactly like that. And I agree with YouAreAToy that the logo could have still been the same through its history. (Refresh my memory: we’re only talking about Pizza Planet in this thread because [spoil]the truck is in the Lotso flashback, not the actual restaurant[/spoil], right?

I love these kinds of threads!

Yes we are discussing PP because the truck appears.

Yeah, the Pizza Planet tidbit came from a Toy Story sourcebook I have. Going with the fact that Toy Story probably takes place in 1995, I’d say Pizza Planet was made only a few years back in the early 90’s.

Bringing this one back from the grave, I noticed that the Pizza Planet Truck is from 1978 from the manual Hamm’s reading. This doesn’t mean that it’s exactly from that time, but it sort of gives us a timeframe.
Although it still seems like a 90’s thing to me, it could possibly be from the late 70’s/early 80’s, due to the whole space and alien fascination, and the prominance of arcade games at that time. As I recall, it’s still beat up by the time Lotso and company hitches a ride, so that would make sense.
