Stan Winston, the pioneering special effects/make-up artist, passed away Sunday. His work includes the Jurassic Park films (in which he created the live-action dinosaurs/designed the dinosaurs), the Terminator film series, Aliens, the Predator film series, etc.

As a hard-core Tim Burton fan, I especially remember him for his make-up effects work on Edward Scissorhands (turning Johnny into the title character if you will), Batman Returns (in which he was responsible for transforming Danny DeVito into the Penguin), and also for his work on Big Fish as well. Tim spoke very highly of Winston.

He once said, “I don’t do special effects. I do characters.” I think that’s certainly an understatement for what he’s done.

Oh my goodness, that is really sad news. May his body rest in peace and his soul find tranquility in a better place.

Oh, I heard about that- so very sad. =( I have a friend who was lucky enough to have met him at the Comic Con, and she’s still in shock about the whole thing. May he find peace, in wherever we may end up.

Very sad, (especially since I’m a fan of his work in Jurassic Park). RIP man. :frowning:

Stan Winston was, and always will be, a legend in the film-making industry. I loved his work in The Terminator and, of all movies, Inspector Gadget. He will be missed.
