State of the Site Address

As we enter a new year and our sixth month, we feel now is as

good a time as any to address a few issues that we feel have been troubling us.

Some of you may have

noticed that originally we the admins were editing posts that contained excessive caps use or use of internet

abbreviations (u instead of you, r instead of are, and so forth). However, a combination of our schedules and the

number of instances has so far kept us from keeping up. Please, excessive caps is considered the same as shouting

and is very rude. Internet abbreviations, or IM and text language, make posts very hard to read, and since we

have members for whom English is not their first language it would be considerate to keep our posts as

easy-to-read as possible. Instead of using caps, we ask that you would use boldface

or italics to emphasize words. For some members, this may mean no longer putting

their entire message in boldface.

In addition, I have also noticed an increase in short, one-sentence

posts. This does not foster discussion. If something sparks your interest, please let us know why. I have seen

posts that tell a reader nothing other that you seem interested in the topic, and nothing further. Also, I have

seen posts where four or five people simply say similar things one after the other. It gives the appearance of us

being mindless “yes-men,” which I know we are not.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation, and

happy posting!

Dear KE,

I appreciate you addressing this

issue, for I have also been concerned about the situations you mentioned. Many of the younger posters seem to

over-abbreviate their sentences and practice poor grammar in their posts.

As for the slight increase in

short-sentence posting, I am embarassed to admit that I tend to fit in that category every once in a while. I

can, however, see why it is unnecessary; I also see how it tends to clutter up a particular thread. As I have

been reminded a couple of times before, PM’s are there for a reason…

Thanks for notifying users of

these problems, KE, for I am one of the many who need to be reminded of these sorts of things. Let’s hope that

the situation improves sooner than later.

P.S. I do have a question that is, in a sense,

related to this issue. How big can our signatures be? I can understand that over-sized sigs can be a problem as

well…as far as space goes. I am worried that my temporary signature is too large. Should I size it down?

I am sorry to say , that I usually put short

responses , but that is usually because i’m do used to putting things short and simple , I forget how to make

things long ( that is , except for my fanfic chapters , those are pretty long ) .If I put caps , it’s usually

because I’m too lazy to go and click on the B or i

button . I will add not doing these to things to my new year’s resolution list .

Also , if Mitch thinks

her siggy is too long , then mine probably is too . I guess I’ll just take off the picture . :frowning:

Dear KE,

Just a question. Is it still okay to cap

instead of bold face? I mean, I might want to emphasize somethine with caps, then make a stronger emphasis using

bolded caps. Is that okay?

whoa - timeout

folks.

Ya know this always happens - let’s chill it with the questions a tad.

There’s actually an

exhaustive FAQ on the main page www.PixarPlanet.com that in detail lays out all of the rules from sig limits, to

posting, to spam, etc. If you’re dying to know what the exact rule is then PLEASE check there first. I say

this because we’re not gonna be zealots here. We’re not gonna kick you out because your sig is 3 pixels to

tall - heck - we won’t even do it if it’s 20 pixels to tall. We’re not going to do anything unless the issue

becomes a nuisance (like I have to start scrolling way down to pass your sig - or I have to wait 20 minutes on

dial up for it to load) - and even then it will just be a polite request to change it and not do it again. If

you feel the need to type SOMETHING in caps or use a comical abreviation OMG! then go ahead - chances are we

won’t even see it (it’s not like we go searching through these posts letter by letter) and hey - if you

absolutely feel the need to go "OMG! YOUR MY BFF AND IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND I HAVE TO SHOUT IT FROM THE TOP

OF MYLUNGS!!!1111" or "ZOMG WE JUST FOUND OUT THERE WILL BE AN INCREDIBLES SEQUEL!!!11111 *insert

multiple smileys*" then go ahead and do it - as long as it doesn’t become persistant and everypost isn’t

like that then again we really don’t care. I’m a big believer in personal freedom and I want you guys to have

fun but… just use your head. And if you do step over the line a bit we’ll let you know and you don’t need to

sweat it - just back up.

Dash - Got it. Thanks for the information. salutes

Good to know what the

issues are. I gotta say i’m one of those guilty parties who often leaves a pretty short reply. I spose I could

work on that, but sometimes my reply is only a sentence long. I dont feel the need to expand it. But I can see

how that clutters up the thread…

Honestly it’s not even the one sentence ones that are so bad as you can say

alot in a sentence. But when it’s only three words or a simple sentence, yeah that gets annoying. =)
