Steve Irwin...

It has been 1 year since Steve Irwin has died!

Here is some news I found:

SYDNEY (AFP) - Australia marked the first anniversary of the death of environmentalist and television “crocodile hunter” Steve Irwin in a low-key manner with his family commemorating privately, reports said Tuesday.

But tributes flowed for the way his widow Terri and daughter Bindi, 9, have conducted themselves since Irwin was killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest during filming on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Bindi Irwin has become a media star in her own right since her father’s death, promoting his causes, speaking at events to commemorate him and starring in her own television programs. The couple also had a three-year-old son, Bob.

“Behind the positive faces they have shown the world since that dreadful day, there can be no doubt there is still deep sorrow and lasting pain,” Sydney’s Daily Telegraph said in an editorial.

"So too for those who respected and admired Irwin for his boundless enthusiasm for life, his determination to make every second of it worthwhile.

“They will have their own thoughts to content themselves with, their own sadness.”

Irwin, who was 44 when he died, became world-famous for his daring stunts with dangerous animals but he was also an environmentalist who put much of the money he made towards promoting related causes.

He also ran a zoo with is wife in northeastern Queensland state. The Australia Zoo continues to be open to visitors.

Irwin’s death prompted a national outpouring of grief, with tributes flowing in from all sections of society, including Prime Minister John Howard, who described Irwin as a “wonderful and colourful son” of Australia.

A public celebration of Irwin’s life is to be held on September 15.

Oh I rember this person. I loved Steve from the Crocidile Hunter. He was my absolute favorite guy to watch. I will forever miss him. Thanks dude. :frowning:

Cried myself rotten when I had found out about the accident. He was a personal hero of mine. Of all the people in the world, I had wanted to meet him the most. Broke my heart it did.

I still can’t believe he’s gone. I looked up to him as a kid and still do now. I felt I knew the guy but after seeing the documentary I found I didn’t know half of it. He truly was amazing.

And despite all the horrible comments I’ve heard about his daughter, I think Bindi’s doing an excellent job.

Okay, so I don’t cry when I think about him anymore - I didn’t watch his show much - but I still believe that he was a great figure, and I always enjoyed seeing him on TV. The world needs more people like him to stick up for the animals, since they can’t really defend themselves against our machines. I think that he was a darn good example of harmony with nature (or perhaps even the way the “dominion over animals” given to man in Genesis should be), and there are a whole lot of people who could stand to learn a whole lot from him. God bless his wife and daughter (and one day, I hope, his son) for committing to continue and further his work.

I was shocked when I heard this, I loved him he was brave, very good with animals and he loved animals very much and they liked him I’m sure. Its cool that Bindi has made her own show like her father, I think its good to have famliy like the Irwins. Bye Steve . :frowning:

It’s nice that his family are having a quiet little celebration for him. He was such an amazing guy- so charismatic and just plain lovable. There were those that critisized the way he handled animals, but they were wrong, and nobody could ever doubt his love for the animals. He just wanted to do what was right by them. Steve was one of a kind. I don’t believe it’s been a whole year already.

He truely was a great inspirational figure to his family, the world, and to me. His passion and love for all of God’s creatures was irreversable and simply astounding, and news of it invaded the hearts of numerous individuals.
I remember how I used to have a heart attack whenever I missed a Crocodile Hunter episode. Hardly ever skipped a show, I did. T’was nice to know that I wasn’t the only animal enthusiast out there…
I was particularly devastated by his loss, although I must admit that his out-spoken young daugther, Bindi, seems to be holding up the fort pretty well. Even so, the world just isn’t the same without him… I miss Steve… sigh

Yep, I mess him too!     sorry for posting so many smiles, lol

Oh man, I just saw a new documentary on TV, and his son Robert is already acting and looking just like Steve. He’s so adorable. He was screaming ‘Crikey!’ xD

I’ve actually gotten a perfect song for Bindi and Steve, and I recorded ‘My Daddy the Crocodile Hunter’ so I’ll soon get cruddy but viewable footage for a music video.

That was such a shock to me when I first found out. I was stunned. :frowning:

Hey did anyone happen to watch the end credits of Collision Course? They re-made Crocodile Rock to fit Steve Irwin. :sunglasses: Awesomeness

Yes, and I have the song on my computer… It’s a cute song.

One weekend, my friend and I watched that movie and cracked jokes at it, and had such fun that I always wanted to do it again, but now I suppose it wouldn’t be the same. If anyone hasn’t seen it, go rent it - it’s a cute movie, but it’s really fun at the same time.

FONY - They did? Wow. I’ll have to catch that the next time they show it on tv…

I didn’t know. I’ll remember next time. Thanks FONY.
