Wow. It sounds like you had a wonderful time, Mitch!
It’s a good thing you were so determined to get to that seminar. I’m really happy that you got in, and had a great time. I’m sure you deserved it and you were the person in the room that appreciated, and savoured the experience the most. That photo of the Mickey Fantasia hat would have taken my breath away, had I been there in real life. How did you feel when you first saw it?
Thanks for the write-up of the actual seminar as well. The story about them toning down Woody’s unpleasantness was very interesting. I think I knew that a bit from the DVD extras/commentary, but didn’t realise the extent of it. I’m sure the little video would have been a treat to watch.
All of those story points are very insightful, and makes me more appreciative of the work Pixar goes through for every one of their films. It’s also really cool that Andrew spent most of the time walking about story, rather than animation seeing as there were mostly animators in the audience, but hey, that’s Pixar!
But those points will help me a lot with my filmmaking - no matter how small of a scale that is…
About the list of NOs: I can think of a few Pixar movies that break those rules, or bend them slightly. Heh. I’m really glad you had a great time, Mitch. It sounded like such a treat, and just the thing to give you more of an encouragement to continue working towards Pixar.
PS: About the anonymous comments:
To be honest I found nothing at all wrong with your write-up. I found it very informative, honest, clear, to the point, and with a dash of humour. You’re grammar was above average as usual, and it was very easy to read (and I consider myself a grammar-nazi).
You did a really great job documenting your experience for us who couldn’t go. For reals.
Any person who goes to the effort of nitpicking one’s grammar, without offering any positive feedback to balance it out, is not worth the time. I mean, look at the content of the write-up for goodness sake, you idiot! (Not you, Mitch).
I loved how you went to the effort of letting us know about the report beforehand, offering to ask Mr. Stanton questions, taking photos and uploading them, and writing the report and then posting it here. I thank you for taking time to do all that, because I myself, know the effort required to do a write-up. Not to mention the courage needed to put yourself out there, vulnerable to criticism - some of it unwarranted,
So yeah, thanks for the write-up - I loved reading it, and I hope you are feeling better. hugs
