Stridin' with the Stanton

PV - Heheh. Well, thank you very much, dude! I really did have a fun time, and it was worth it to skip school for a day. (snigger)

I also forgot to mention something that Mr. Stanton stated, and that is that you have to like your main character. (Feel free to refer to the “Edit” in my previous post for more information on this subject.)

Thanks again!

Ah, yes! It all makes perfect sense now. Thank you very much, Ms. Vixen!

To all: Please refer to PV’s comment on the “-Don’t let the strings show!” statement for more clarity on the subject.

– Mitch

Mitch- Wow! Sounds like Mr. Stanton really knows how to give good advice! It sounds as though you had an amazing time, Mitch, and hearing all of these golden nuggets of information first person must’ve been incredible. Thanks so much for telling us about it!

lizardgirl - Haha! Cha, it was alot of fun. The seminar itself only lasted for approxiamately an hour and a half, but the wait for it was well worth it.

You’re welcome, dude. And thanks!

Heh. It’s interesting to note that the rest of you dudes probably would have posted the same comments as these guys had you not known me as well. Of course, I expect this kind of feedback, but I must say that I am a little depressed. On the plus side, it keeps me aware of how far I need to go to achieve success and improve upon my previous work and grammar skills.

I swear, though… I do my best to get a few pictures and a decent enough report, and people still kick my butt as if they’re trying to piss me off. It seems that no matter how much I be nice to people, they still treat me like a piece of dirt. (Well, some people do anyway…)

Eheh. Yeah, well, sorry for the blow-out. I wish I wasn’t so sensitive…

– Mitch

Wow. It sounds like you had a wonderful time, Mitch!

It’s a good thing you were so determined to get to that seminar. I’m really happy that you got in, and had a great time. I’m sure you deserved it and you were the person in the room that appreciated, and savoured the experience the most. That photo of the Mickey Fantasia hat would have taken my breath away, had I been there in real life. How did you feel when you first saw it?

Thanks for the write-up of the actual seminar as well. The story about them toning down Woody’s unpleasantness was very interesting. I think I knew that a bit from the DVD extras/commentary, but didn’t realise the extent of it. I’m sure the little video would have been a treat to watch.

All of those story points are very insightful, and makes me more appreciative of the work Pixar goes through for every one of their films. It’s also really cool that Andrew spent most of the time walking about story, rather than animation seeing as there were mostly animators in the audience, but hey, that’s Pixar! But those points will help me a lot with my filmmaking - no matter how small of a scale that is…

About the list of NOs: I can think of a few Pixar movies that break those rules, or bend them slightly. Heh. I’m really glad you had a great time, Mitch. It sounded like such a treat, and just the thing to give you more of an encouragement to continue working towards Pixar.

PS: About the anonymous comments:

To be honest I found nothing at all wrong with your write-up. I found it very informative, honest, clear, to the point, and with a dash of humour. You’re grammar was above average as usual, and it was very easy to read (and I consider myself a grammar-nazi). ;-p You did a really great job documenting your experience for us who couldn’t go. For reals.

Any person who goes to the effort of nitpicking one’s grammar, without offering any positive feedback to balance it out, is not worth the time. I mean, look at the content of the write-up for goodness sake, you idiot! (Not you, Mitch).

I loved how you went to the effort of letting us know about the report beforehand, offering to ask Mr. Stanton questions, taking photos and uploading them, and writing the report and then posting it here. I thank you for taking time to do all that, because I myself, know the effort required to do a write-up. Not to mention the courage needed to put yourself out there, vulnerable to criticism - some of it unwarranted,

So yeah, thanks for the write-up - I loved reading it, and I hope you are feeling better. hugs

What were they expecting? A professional report or something? If they were really desperate to hear about this Stanton thing, they should’ve picked up their butts off the ground and gone there themselves. Lazy so-and-so’s.

Ignore them, Mitch. Your grammar was fine and your description of the event was vivid. There are some incredibly stupid people out there who will do anything just to get somebody down and put a bit of attention on themselves. They’re just pathetic, and not worth getting upset about.

Even though this doesn’t mean much from me, I think your writing quality/style was just fine. Don’t worry about it.

Btw, it made Animated News.

I’m sorry, but if someone calls Mitch ‘he’ one more time, I’m going to explode! I swear!

rachel, lizardgirl, and Gasduude - Well, gee whiz. You didn’t have to do that. I was seriously ticked off yesterday after reading those anonymous comments, and I don’t usually blow up like that after an un precedented, ableit unsightly, opinion comes my way. Heh.

Well, I appreciate your support, in any case. Seriously, I’ve never met a more huggable board. Thank you, guys. Thank you very much. hugs everyone <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In

This is exactly why Andrew Stanton mentioned that those rules were devised before Toy Story was completed. You obviously see some of those points integrated into later Pixar features, for various reasons…

Actually, I would have thought it hilarious had you been addressing me.

Gasduude - It did?! Gee whiz… sweats

Ha! Believe me, I consider it a compliment. (snigger)

Update/Edit: Heh. I realize why my review was not warmly accepted now. I sculpted it to specifically suit the tastes of you Pixar Planet members, which is why it was rather poorly constructed. As for the spelling mistakes: I hate them with a passion, which is precisely why I double check all of my posts in a thorough fashion. However, it is inevitable that I will make the occasional mistake.

Another negative comment by an anonymous person popped up, by the way. Man, I must have really constructed this stupid review poorly. (sigh)

– Mitch

No probs, Mitch.

Well, you know, they can take what they can get IMHO. If they want to attend exclusive events and do their own write-up - good for them. Otherwise they can read your write up, that you took the time and effort to do, and enjoy what you reported back. I have no issue with constructive criticism - but I feel like the first two comments were more of the nit-picky type, and more of a personal opinion than downright fact.

But I don’t understand it!! I swear…! I take all that time and then somebody just comes along and kicks me in the litterbox like they…like they don’t careI I mean, seriously, I don’t mind constructive criticism either. Heck, I encourage it! But why would someone even take the time and effort to slap someone in the face for the pure joy of it or just because they’d like to point out how big of a jerk I am and… Ah sheesh…

Woah. I blew up there. Heh. That hasn’t happened in a long time… My gosh. I’m truely sorry, guys… (sigh)

– Mitch

I know. I know. Just don’t focus on what they said. There is no merit there, anyway, and there was nothing wrong with your report. They are just people with too much time on their hands, and hate in their hearts.

Personally, I loved the report, and other people did too. You can’t please everyone, and some people will never be happy with anything you could have made, and seem to be out to annoy you. Whatever - they can go jump.

Thanks Mitch for posting up your write-up of the seminar!!

That is frickin’ awesome that you got to go!! I’m glad you had fun!
Dang, that must’ve been so exciting!

I can’t believe how many people commented on upcoming pixar blog JUST to critize you and nitpick grammar!!! I mean, seriously people, someone’s taking the time to write about this awesome seminar when she doesn’t even need to.
I thought this write up was great and really descriptive! I mean, that was a lot of info to remember!

Well, I hope you achieve your dream of getting a job at PIXAR one day! I would very much like to obtain one myself… :stuck_out_tongue:

rachel - sigh Yeah, I really blew up there. And I call myself a moderator…

You’re right, rachel. I shouldn’t let other people’s opinions bother and/or upset me. I know that I can’t make everyone happy, and I shouldn’t let it tick me off either. I’ll do my best to keep my mouth shut in the future. Heh…

Yeah, see, that’s exactly my problem! I have this urge to please the universe, but the reason behind that is another story… I really should snap out of that phase. Eheh.

“…they can go jump”. (snigger)

Susie Dashiell Parr - Really? Well, thank you! I really appreciate it. And yep: I’m gonna do my best to gain a position at Pixar, I’ll tell you that right now.

Welcome back to Pixar Planet, by the way.

– Mitch

Yeah, Mitch, think about it like that- I mean, what sad little lives they must lead if they spend their time browsing the internet, desperate to find some grammar that they can correct that doesn’t even need correcting.

Susie Dashiell Parr- Welcome to PP!

lizardgirl - Ha! Yeah, I know. It’s so pitiful…

Well, I’m fine now. The reality of the situation has finally blown over, thank goodness. My apologies for the explosion. (snigger)

– Mitch

Mitch, lizardgirl: ha, thanks for the welcome/welcome back!

Don’t know why I never read this topic … :unamused:

Anyways, you are so lucky, Mitch!

Susie Dashiell Parr - You’re welcome.

FONY - Heheh. Thank you, FONY.

Mitch:

A very interesting story you gave to all of us to read of the experience you had that day, especially when you were listening to Andrew’s words when he was speaking at the Seminar.

To help you here,
Don’t let the ‘-’ comments bring you down in yourself from where you read those things on the WWW. Not trying to be mean or offensive to people who see this, but there Are idiotic and disrespectful people in this world since from nearly the beginning. But again, it appears you are new (Or at the least partly) to that kind of negatism. Take it from me, before I stopped putting updates into the site page I have shown on my profile page here, I would be getting hurtful words on the tagboard there on the site I paid with my own money to let others see how much interest I really have in you know who by my avatar, freely without limitations. I truly felt bad in some of those posts that some of those mislead people gave me not long ago about my work on the site and what I said on it to.
But I have learned only to ignore their words on such matters. It happens to everyone who wants to show something of themselves to everyone else in the world.

One more thing on the post you made about on your experience that day at the seminar:
Where you said that Stanton tells others to have care for the main character they are bringing to existence,
I believe I did state that already here on this site for you and others here to read.
The only problem on this from me is that I have not been able to find the evidence on this in the Archive sections of the forum yet. I would need to have a little more time to dig in deeper into the forum and Archives section of Pixar Planet to find it and help refresh your memory on it. Though, I still do remember that I never saw a re. on it from ya, after I made it the last post on the thread I composed it on :frowning:
