No, this isn’t about the motel chain. It’s about the new J. J. Abrams-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced film coming out in 2011. Here’s the Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_8_%28film%29
The train crash reminded me of a very bad CGI shot from the Nicholas Cage sci-fi flick Next. And I’m quite disappointed they didn’t show the mystery monster at the end of the trailer (not even a Cloverfield glimpse!).
That said, it’s typical Abrams, with a touch of Spielberg wonder. For the uninitiated, Super 8 is a type of film stock, and rumours are circulating that the story will be E.T. in plot, with a bunch of kids capturing footage of a mysterious fugitive monster. But that rumour has since been disproved by Abrams.
Whatever the case, I’ll be keeping tabs on it till next summer! If you’re a computer programmer, you can try out the ‘Scariest Thing I Ever Saw’ ARG game and try to decipher the lines of codes!
I really enjoyed Cloverfield and reckon I will end up enjoying this.
Before they trailer, I had hoped it may be a Cloverfield sequel, no idea if there ever will be one now, but I remember J. J. saying they had an idea to make another film shown from other character’s point of views that night.
It was the Viral hype surrounding the film. The biggest complaint was that in the film they never brought up the backstory of Clover; the viral stuff explained that it came from the sea, that it lived on kelp (I think?) that is a main ingredient for a drink called Slusho, that it was awakened by off-shore drilling for either oil or the Slusho kelp, etc.
I read about the backstory online after seeing the film, personally that added to the experience of the film and made it really enjoyable for me. I guess its different for everyone, though
I did enjoy Cloverfield as it was a different movie experience from the norm, so this does sound interesting. As long as it isn’t going down exactly the same route that Cloverfield did, that is.
I saw the trailer before IM2. It looks amazing! I think it’ll be Abrams’ best film yet! Did anybody know about the hidden images? Here’s one:
A kids face! Maybe the alien ripped that kid’s head off, and he flew towards the camera. That’s one, and I’m too lazy to show the other. But Super 8 is already my most anticipated movie of 2011.
