If anyone has heard about this and is angered by it, please comment.
Jon and Kate Gosselin of TLC fame have now filed for divorce after 10 years of blissful marriage. Their marriage has spanned 5 television seasons, a full, happy household (I’m referring to the ‘eight’ involved), and even a vow renual in Hawaii to ensure their children’s faith in their relationship. A fairly recent SNL joke involving the fictional programs ‘Jon plus four’ and ‘Kate plus four’ is now not a harmless joke, but an inconvenient truth and an eerie foreshadowing of future events.
I was always a big fan of the show, even when rumors of Kate’s ‘monster’ personality erupted and Jon’s infidelities were discussed. I truly believe that Jon’s mistake was really an honest mistake, but I know I’ll be in the minority.
But you know why I kept coming back to see them every week? For their children!!! They were loveable and it was fun to watch them grow up.
Magazines like Us Weekly and People need to learn that their sadistic ‘telephone game’ mindset is slowly ripping the fabric of the American dream. The Gosselins were an honest, happy family until the darker side of the media got their hands on them like a child with a dimestore toy.
Like the baby in Tin Toy, I’m more interested in the bag the toy came in: groups of honest, caring people. Let’s just hope Susan Boyle’s life doesn’t take a turn for the worse like this. It’s all just sad.
I leave this thread open for all well-wishers (AND NO HATERS) and their prayers.
I remember this I think. Picked up a copy of either US or People with the title, “Has Kate turned Into a Monster?” (something like that) while waiting for an appointment. I agree with you. The media I am beginning to hate a lot lately. Hope those children turn out fine.
I voted ‘no’. If they think a divorce is best then that’s their business.
I have watched this show a few times and did get more interested when rumours started going around of their divorce. Apparently they had been separated (living apart) for 2 years before the announcement, though. So maybe Jon wasn’t actually cheating, just moving into another relationship after separating from Kate. I think they were just playing happy families for the cameras. Maybe they had a contract with TLC for a certain number of episodes or were told to keep the announcement a secret until a certain time. The media attention and 8 kids must have put stress on their marriage, as it would a lot of marriages.
I don’t think the gossip magazines are 100% to blame. No-one forced Jon to have an affair (if he did indeed do that). If the media lets them be now, and both parents decide to stop consulting with the media, then I hope the kids will be unaffected by this since the sextuplets are still young (and are as cute as pie, btw). They seem to have cameras in their face all the time though, so I feel sorry for the kids in that way… I don’t think anyone can be that critical of Kate too much since if you spent one day with just the 6 kids, let alone a set of twins on top of that, how long would you last? I think she should really quit doing any more episodes, or agreeing to interviews and talk shows. They must have made a lot of money from the show already, and everything you see on the show such as vacations and products, a lot of that is paid for by either TLC or companies. I wish them both the best with whoever they choose to be with, or even if Jon and Kate end up back together, but the kids need a break from the cameras, I think, so they can live normally, even moreso now that their parents are breaking up.
I don’t watch reality shows at all and have never seen this one but doesn’t it seem very exploitative of the children? And it’s not as if these magazines picked a random couple to dig into. They choose to be public figures when they signed a contract for a TV show. Then there’s the real source of the problem, the people who purchase these magazines. Is the celebrity culture because of the magazines or do the magazines exist because of the culture?
Didn’t Jon and Kate comfirm that the woman in the car was a long time friend?
What scares me is how people beleive these stupid tabloids in a second. Once I saw a tabloid with taglines about Bush like “His late night calls” (HE’S THE FRIGGIN PRESIDENT! Of course he’s gonna constantly get called!) and “What she’s telling the twins” referring to his wife, with absolutly horrible pictures of both of them. Now, Bush has been accused of a lot of things, but not of infedility. Load of crap.
Tabloids are stupid, pointless, and, 75% of the time, either untrue or incredibly blown up. I have to see them everytime I go to Giant (Including just as annoying Cosomopolitan, which pretty much comfirms my beleif that companies think that inserting the word “s**” five times on the cover will make sales explode. Unfortunatly they are kinda right) and I just have to think “What idiot would actually BUY that crap?” And then, I see some mom or old woman reading them and I can’t help but think “Oh, that idiot.”
Except the Weekly World News. That’s the finest news source ever. It’s a shame they were shut down by government endorsed aliens. However, I’ve discovered recently that the SUN usually carries a mini Weekly World News these days!
