Tangled

I’m excited for it too, but believe me, if it really DID come out today, then somebody would have already done a post about it before me, plus it would have already been posted on facebook, and there would have already been at least 45 comments over there with people whining and complaining about how this film isn’t in 2D and hating on CGI, or bashing the current title and demanding for Disney to change the title back to Rapunzel, or just spewing negativity in general. :unamused: But so far, none of that has happened yet, so I’m just going to go with what pixarfan9099 said and assume that the new trailer is going to be premiering with Step Up 3D when it’s released this Friday in theaters.

Though on the bright side, I love how people already started doing fanarts based on this film even though it isn’t even released yet. xDD I came across these four gorgeous pieces today and I’m really in awe.

But Friday’s not nearly soon enough! GAHHH!

Anyway, I posted a fanart of Tangled on Deviant, but it doesn’t look that great. It was my first watercolor piece in a LOONG while. I’m much, much better at drawing/cartooning. I’m planning on doing a cartoon of Flynn.

I’m disappointed Wikipedia let me down :frowning: But I guess that I should of never trusted it in the first place xD

The whole origin of the rumor came from the fact Step Up 3d premiered yesterday and there’s like 99% chance the trailer was on the reel. It just hasn’t made it online yet xD
Danachii- those are really really gorgeous! Even though there are quite a few people bashing this film, there also seem to be quite a few who can’t wait to see it. (Ourselves included  )

Actually, I shouldn’t be saying that people complain about the film only when the trailers get released online. Tbh, every single time Disney’s Facebook Page posts ANYTHING about Tangled, people are always complaining about something related to the film. :unamused:

lol, wanna bet just how many naysayers will actually end up enjoying the movie? :stuck_out_tongue: My numbers are pretty high right about now.

EDIT; New update (kind of). First off: there’s another new gallery full of concept arts!

Secondly, Disney’s Japanese website recently updated with a shiny new visual and a rather epic trailer:

disney.co.jp/movies/tounoue/

The film is called either “Tangled” or “Rapunzel” in other countries, and in Japan it’s called Tounoue no Rapunzeru, which apparently means “Rapunzel at the top of the tower”. Either way, it’s a rather stunning visual and I love the hair! <3

That rocks. The trailer was a little awkward for me, though, how they played epic fight music during a slapstick scene with hair. Otherwise, it was better than the American version.

That picture really is gorgeous <3 I love the quote at the end of the trailer too. Mandy is such a good actress.

I think it looks pretty cool. Though I’m concerned about it opening the same weekend as the last Harry Potter movie. Has Disney learned nothing from Treasure Planet?

Oh my god, I completely agree with you. I love 2D and want to see it make a comeback as much as the next Disney fan but to sit there and tell me CGI “cheapens” anything or that CGI has no soul and artistic merit when we’ve got so much under Pixar that tells you otherwise just really annoys me. They’re just snobs. This is the animation equivilant of the “Records vs CD” debate.
Me? I’m just happy Disney is using CGI but so far appearing to NOT be just trying to imitate Pixar.

^Yeah, a lot of people seem to be really against the idea of this movie being in CGI or even having a different title. I also run into a lot of people who say that Disney should just leave the CGI to Pixar and only do what they’re good at. Or that Disney should go back to the way they were and only make 2D movies, but if you think about it financially, that’s a rather stupid business move since making 2D films now is extremely costly and risky as apposed to years ago. To me, it just seems like people are too caught up in the past and are afraid of progression and change. Considering how times and generations are changing and business is extremely tough right now, that’ll only end up hurting Disney than improving them. And I’m probably jumping into conclusions, but it just seems like most people on that Facebook page or people in general who make comments like that don’t know how finance and business works, or have never actually had the experience to run a business. What Disney needs to do right now is move with the times and explore different approaches and mediums for their films, as well as reaching a broader audience like what they’re doing right now for a second Disney Renaissance to even happen. =\ Sure, sometimes that CAN mean that they also have to do what other studios are doing, but unfortunately, that’s the way the cookie crumbles in real life.

They should be happy that Disney even DID go back to 2D, despite it being so hazardous to produce now. I heard they’re even working on more 2D projects, but if you ask me, I worry about how that will turn out since the Princess and the Frog didn’t do so well. D:

And on a more lighter topic, I really have to agree with woody; Mandy Moore is a really talented actress, not to mention a very good singer. Imo, it’s very hard to find someone whose good at both (I’ve seen it for myself), but Mandy has a knack and a talent for both singing AND acting. I’m not gonna lie though, I was a little bit skeptical when they announced Mandy Moore would be voicing Rapunzel, but after watching the trailer, I really like what I’m seeing/hearing. I’m sure Mandy will do an amazing job voicing Rapunzel.

^ Exactly. Complaining about how “CGI sucks, 2D is art!” is just another way of saying “LOOK AT ME! AREN’T I INTELLIGENT AND ARTISTIC!? I’M SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN ALL THE REGULAR PEOPLE! I AM ABOVE ALL THIS MEDIOCRITY!” Not realizing that you can’t be a snob like that when everyone else is saying the same thing. Its like the people who act like they’re better than you because they worship Citizen Cane or some other “great film in history” when they haven’t actually seen it.

So will Rapunzel be an official Disney princess?

Indeed. So will Merida from Brave.

sighs It’s already Friday, and the new trailer still hasn’t been released online yet. And I’m actually a little nervous about it, tbh. x___x;;; The first one wasn’t particularly good, and I really want this one to be EPIC. I’m really having doubts about it though. >.<

But I found this:

Like I said a couple of pages back, I love how they made Rapunzel into an artist. It makes her really easy to relate to and sympathize with. Heck, even I already relate to her, and I have a feeling she’s going to top Jasmine and Belle as my favorite Disney princess.

That really is gorgeous! O___O I totally agree, her being an artist really makes me sympathize with her a lot easier. I mean it’s the same with Belle, because she likes books and I like books, I absolutely love her xDD. I also agree with the whole trailer thing. I mean has anybody actually seen Step Up 3d yet to actually confirm that it’s even in front of the movie? oh well. I guess all we can do now is wait.

really? hmm, I find that kinda interesting since it’s a Pixar movie and all…

That sounds exactly like the Barbie Rapunzel(yes, I do watch those. I have 3 younger sisters!!!). I’m not happy thus far…

Oh, It think I remember the book version of that, but since its been years since I read it (obviously) I’m a little fuzzy. How are they similar? Didn’t the Barbie Rapunzel only have really long hair that the prince climbed in a dream sequence? Other than that, I’m blank.

She painted her whole room, as well is the main similarity that I noticed immediatly.

Oh yeah, I think I remember now. shrugs I’m probably pretty biased, but I think its pretty understandable to think “Well, this girl has been locked up for 18 years. What creative thing could she do…painting!” It doesn’t mean they copied it.

And whats the main similarity? Sorry if you said it before, I probably missed it.

Well, their designs and dresses stand out to me, but maybe I’m over reacting. I need to wait until I see it.

other than the whole painting thing, I think Barbie Rapunzel and Tangled are going to be two wayyy different movies. I mean, if you look at the plot on wikipedia. Her best friends are a dragon and a bunny. like really? In Tangled, [spoil]Gothel uses the brush to help her stay young[/spoil], but in the Barbie version it’s something from her parents. Plus, she marries a prince. I don’t know about you, but Tangled is a movie I would much rather see than Barbie Rapunzel.[spoil] With the whole falling in love with a thief and going on an adventure across the kingdom.[/spoil] Plus, they’re based off the same basic story. There are bound to be overlapping themes and such.

^Easy there woody, you might want to spoiler tag the stuff you saw from the concept art. We need to be careful with the plot spoilers, afterall.

Anyway, I’ve only ever seen Barbie and the Nutcracker because of my younger cousin. I’ve never seen the Rapunzel version of it nor any of the other Barbie movies. Seeing Nutcracker was enough for me. They’re all way too kid-ish and just overall extremely painful to watch for my taste. Plus I really can’t stand the voice acting, lol.

That said, just because a group of artists like taking ideas from other pieces/movies doesn’t mean they’re copying it. Literally everything has already been done to death; nothing really is original anymore, tbh. The whole point is taking that idea and putting your own spin on it, something even I do when I make graphics or work on art. Yes, plagiarism is what’s bad and it’s what artists shouldn’t be doing, but there’s a difference between plagiarism and being inspired by other peoples ideas and making it your own.

Plus I read on UltimateDisney’s Tangled thread on the official forums that Rapunzel (in Disney’s Tangled) does other things asides from painting. Apparently she also likes to read and even play guitar. She’s overall a very artistic person. Though it’s understandable that anybody would develop any traditional artistic hobbies like painting or drawing if they were stuck in a place for 18 years, especially if there’s no computers or internet connection.
