Tangled

From what I’ve heard, yes.

Agreed. Last I checked, Walt Disney made his company great by being different and jumpin on he latest and newest formats and mediums and using them to his advantage and NOT just doing the same thing over and over again. These people are pretty much blinded by nostalgia. You notice when they DID go back to 2D and made Princess and the Frog, people then whined that it wasn’t as good as The Lion King or some other bull like that. So yeah, there’s no satisfying people.

Frog made money, but Disney was just being mindless buisness men and thought it didn’t make “ENOUGH” money which really annoys me. Especially when it turns out Tiana has actually outsold Ariel in toy sales. But what actually annoys me more is the horde of people that said they wanted more 2D and then when they got it, they didn’t go see it. You know how many people are saying that they just NOW saw the movie? If you wanted 2D back so badly, why didn’t you go see it in theaters where Disney thinks it really counts? If every person that whines and moaned for more 2D went to see Frog, it would’ve done even better but they didn’t and now they’re whining because Disney isn’t sure if they want to keep doing it. Well gee, maybe if you supported the cause, they wouldn’t BE in this problem >> But that’s another rant for another time.

There really IS no satisfying people. I, personally, LOVED Princess and the Frog. But I do consider it kind of the “Cars” of Disney 2D films; it doesn’t have a fast paced, epic feel the other movies have, and people mistake that for not being as good when its simply more relaxed.

I saw Princess and the Frog opening night (even missing a theater sport competition because my friends and I had been planning it for months) and didn’t regret it one bit.

Same here! I saw it with a bunch of my friends, we were all seniors in High School. We took up an entire row of the theater, it was amazing!

lol, I actually really, really, REALLY wanted to watch TPATF in theaters, but I have a perfectly good excuse as to why I didn’t. I was completely drowned in so many tests, exams and projects for College and sadly I had no time. :frowning: It’s why I really hate how Disney releases their animated movies during a time where a lot of people are busy. I really love how Pixar releases their movies during the summer though because I actually have time to go and see it.

But I really loved The Princess and the Frog too. It’s not the best Disney movie ever made, but it was extremely enjoyable and it’s even one of my favorites now.

I think that’s the main reason why TPATF didn’t do that well: because people didn’t want to go see it. Not to mention a lot of people wouldn’t be caught dead near a Disney movie. They act like they’re too cool for it, lol. That’s like that with a lot of people that I know actually. :\

But yeah, that does sound really stupid when you mention it. It kind of reminds me of some highschool students who love to complain about how their marks are terrible, and yet they don’t even do anything about it.

Well…actually, Disney releases Pixar movies during the summer, since they do all the marketing.

^Yeah I know that. xDD;; I still don’t like it though.

EDIT; Btw, I just found this article

blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2010/ … cover.html

It looks like we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer for the new trailer. sighs ;___;

ugh, great :frowning: I got all my hopes up and everything.

Fall starts next month, so I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing the new trailer in September. It makes sense if you think about it, because we got the first teaser trailer in March, then there was a two-month period of waiting until we got the very first theatrical trailer in June. Which means we’ll have to wait another two months before getting the second trailer somewhere around September (hopefully). I’m not sure about any specific details for it, but we’ll just have to wait and see. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for news and I’ll report it whenever I find anything.

Mandy Moore also tweeted this:

from her twitter account. Which means there was probably another test screening for this film yesterday too.

EDIT; TVTropes has a page dedicated to Tangled now, and I was basically reading and LOL-ing through most of the entries until I saw this:

… I’m SO glad Disney scrapped this idea. It sounds so unbelievably corny, and just so… ugh. I have no words. DDDD:

I find it funny that the Tangled TV Tropes page is longer than the pages for most already released movies months before it actually comes out.

Actually, as annoying as it is, I think Disney is being kind of smart with the marketing of Tangled as opposed to PATF. I think part of the reason PATF underperformed was that they hyped it so much, people were expecting the greatest thing since sliced bread. They released clips of practically every song on the internet, so there weren’t very many scenes of the movie you didn’t see any of. I read one comment that I kinda agreed with: “When you release this much footage for a movie, it doesn’t make us want to see it. It makes us feel like we already have.” Tangled is being hyped much less, and that might be the right decision.

^There are a lot of reasons as to why TPATF didn’t do well, and I think what you just explained could very well be one of those many reasons. And I agree. It seems like Disney REALLY learned their lesson, which is good.

On the other hand, I’m surprised at just how many test screenings there were for this film. I don’t know if it’s like that with movies in general, but there were reportedly WAY more than just the one in May. There were also a couple of screenings in June and July. And from what Mandy tweeted, there was even one yesterday. It sounds like Disney really wants to make sure this movie is perfect.

You’ve GOT to be kidding me. :unamused: Thank Glaux!

It might sound counter-intuitive, but that argument does make sense! Leave the fans wanting more!

Argh… I hope it’s an early rather than late Fall release. And I’m crossing my fingers that the second trailer will be more grand than the one we just got…

wasn’t that the movie Glen Keane wanted to make? Before John Lasseter came over and replaced him. That’s what I thought happened but I’m not so sure xD

Whoa, wait, what? I heard about the teenager part, but this is the first time I heard about Rapunzel turning into a squirrel. Well, I’m glad that idea got dropped!

I am actually rather excited for Tangled now. I think Disney animation is really turning around, and this film looks to be pretty good.

I will be frequenting this thread more often now.

We will be happy to have you.

Yeah, for a while I was dreading this movie. I use to complain about the name and the CGI and everything. But after seeing the concept art, I’ve fallen in love and I’m so excited! I can’t wait for November. I need to remember not to judge a book by it’s cover, but that’s very hard to do. I still don’t like the trailer, I hope they release a better one!

^I was also very much against the name change at first, but then I started gradually warming up to it. I have a like/dislike thing with the title now, lol. I like how it emphasizes Rapunzel’s love for Flynn, but at the same time, I also don’t like how “hip” and “cool” they’re trying to make it sound like, not to mention it’s breaking Disney tradition. But I’m not aggressive towards it. And I have a feeling by the time I watch the movie, I’ll get used to it a lot better.

And I’ve already mentioned this in other threads, but this movie works a lot better in CGI for one main reason: the fact that it’s about hair - lots and LOTS of hair. From what I’ve heard, Rapunzel’s hair is the core element of the story. It’s something that bonds her and Flynn together, not to mention she even uses it as a weapon to fight enemies and also as a rope to jump from tree to tree. And while hair is extremely difficult to animate in CGI, it’ll make Rapunzel’s hair realistic and believable as she moves it around and such. If it was in 2D, Rapunzel’s hair would just be a big blob and it wouldn’t work. You wouldn’t see that same authenticity that you’d see in CGI. Just my two cents.

Yeahh I’m pretty sure that concept was in production around the time when the movie was still called Rapunzel: Unbraided. That sounded way more of a “Shrek”-like movie, if you ask me. I don’t know who originally thought of it, but it was actually Glen Keane who said that they shouldn’t be embarrassed or afraid of doing a traditional fairy tale. And so that idea was scrapped, and they basically went back to the drawing boards to develop a new story for the project.

Whoa! This makes so much sense. I never really that of it this way before. At first I was really upset that this was a CGI film, because it kind of seemslike Disney gave up on the return to traditional hand drawn animation. I also really thought this was a hand drawn film until I saw the trailer at TS3. But if the choice to go computer was made to emphasize the hair and make it seem real, then I totally support that! It must be so much easier to animate thousands of strands of hair through a computer program, especially when the hiar is basically a character in itself. I guess if in Tangled Rupunzel only just sort of stood there with her hair, they could have hand drawn it. I am glad that is not the case though.

I think you mean it’s harder, not easier. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, guess what guys? WE GOT ANOTHER BRAND NEW CONCEPT ART!

LOL they forgot to mention the horde of arrows lashing out at them. D:
