Tangled

Wow, this movie looks so much more action packed than the original fairy tale!

I hate how everyone talks about PATF as if it was an all out failure. “Didn’t do well” to me implies that they lost money on the deal. Yeah, making twice your money back isn’t a blockbuster, but it’s to me not “Didn’t do well” territory. Then there’s the fact that Tiana actually outsold Ariel in sales. So “Didn’t do well” is a overstatement IMHO
However, back on topic the artwork it looking really good.

It did well, just not as well as Disney thought it would. It was supposed to be a blockbuster.

Thanks for the concept art, Danachii! I wonder why Maximus is all-green? Seasickness?

In the original story, the prince [spoil]gets blinded when he falls from the tower. He later gets his sight restored by Rapunzel’s tears.[/spoil] :open_mouth: If Disney includes that portion of the story, it would be both shocking and very brave of them. Not to mention romantic at the end!

Danachii- whoa, that concept art is EPIC. like seriously. I wonder if there will be a scene like that in the finished film?

You’re welcome, everyone!

TPATF wasn’t a complete failure. If anything, it helped establish a solid ground for future traditionally hand-drawn films, and it confirmed that 2D animation really ISN’T dead at Disney. And of course it did make a whole ton of money, but if we’re talking about box office performance, it did poorly. It had huge competition against really massive and popular movies like James Cameron’s Avatar and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. But in a decade from now, it’s not going to matter to people whether it did good or poorly at the box office. Films like Bambi and Pinocchio were also box office disappointments at the time of their release, but now they’re considered classics, and the same thing’s going to happen with TPATF.

Now that you mention it, if you take a look at this concept art gallery I posted a couple of pages back, I noticed a concept piece of Rapunzel [spoil]holding Flynn and crying over him[/spoil]. But then again, it IS just a concept art, so I’m not sure if it actually is in the film. We’ll just have to wait and see!

Oh, I remember that! [spoil]They are like seperated for like 10 years and he’s wandering in the desert until he finds her with their children.[/spoil] Or at least that’s the version I grew up with!

wait, in this said image Danachii, [spoil]dose Rapunzel have really short hair?[/spoil] I don’t really like it :\ I mean, I really hope that they just [spoil]leave her hair the way it is, since it’s such a vital part of the story and her character[/spoil]

Yes, it is. And believe me I really do understand how you feel woody. I mean, I can only imagine how it would even sadden the kids who are watching it but [spoil]sadly, in the original fairy tale, after finding out that Rapunzel has been seeing a guy (the Prince) all this time, Mother Gothel cuts off Rapunzel’s hair and kicks her out of the tower and into a dark forest as punishment.[/spoil] Rapunzel’s long hair represents her innocence [spoil]and when it gets cut off it shows that the innocence she had about the world is gone. Yes I know, it’s saddening and it’s really cruel, but it’s a very crucial and important part of the fairy tale, and also a part of Rapunzel’s character development.[/spoil] I’m not holding my breath for Disney to include it since it IS just concept art, but if they don’t, then the whole story would feel too sugarcoated for me.

Danachii: I’m sure that even if they don’t do it, they’ll find something to add a darker or scarier element to it. They always do.

Okay, I’m seriously done with Facebook. There’s so much stupidity that I can’t take it anymore. I mean seriously, saying things like: “Walt Disney is rolling over in his grave.” Why would Walt roll over in his grave for? He was an INNOVATOR. He was always looking for new things to improve the quality of his films. Heck, if he was still alive today, he would be so HAPPY knowing that CGI even existed. fumes and head-desks

And he doesn’t even have a grave. He was cremated, but that’s not even the point, lol.

Yeah, I guess that’s true. I mean I’ve already accepted the fact that Disney will never [spoil]include the Prince’s blindness and Rapunzel’s pregnancy[/spoil] into their version of Rapunzel, so I won’t feel TOO bad if they scrap this one too, haha. It’s like you said though, they’ll probably make it up with other dark and adult themes in it instead.

Plus part of why I like Disney is that they take fairy tales that have been repetitively re-told in the same way over and over again and they put their own spin on it instead, which is refreshing.

That is depressing, Danachii. I’m tired of all the Pixar hate groups :imp:  , but I’ve mostly seen anti-Disney Channel groups. I agree, hating on CG is wrong.

People who hate Pixar for “killing 2D animation” have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about, especially since its people from Pixar who’ve been bringing it back! And Danachii is totally right, Walt Disney would love CGI. “Keep moving forward,” ya know?

In fact, I’m going to ask Walt’s closest character about this.

Me: Hey Mickey, thanks for visiting Pixar Planet today.
Mickey: Hiya folks! I’m happy to visit my ol’ pal Luxo’s fanbase!
Me: So…you are friends?
Mickey: Well of course! Luxo’s pulled me out of some real tight spots, and he made Toy Story! Wow, they didn’t make animation like that in the old days!
Me: But that’s not a bad thing, right?
Mickey: Of course not! Trying new things is how the world moves forward.
Me: So, all these people saying that Walt would hate Tangled being in CGI are incorrect?
Mickey: Yeah! Walt was always trying to do something new, a lot of times at a huge risk. I was a huge risk myself! I like CGI, its made a lot of great movies. Its not the type of animation, but how you use it.
Me: Well said Mickey. Thanks again for being with us today.
Mickey: Bye, folks! See you real soon!

…I’m weird. XD

I personally prefer CGI as it makes things look more real. Those people are just looking for something to complain about. :unamused:

One thing I love about Disney Princess is meeting them in person at Disney parks! Disney Parks Blog has released some information about Tangled meet and Greats!

Here is the blog post with details:

EJE- that does look pretty neat! Thanks for the link

ellie-jessie-eve: Oh wow, already a Rapunzel and Flynn Rider meet and greet over at Disneyland? That sounds so cool! And the concept art for it looks pretty wicked too. It makes me wish that I had enough money to travel to the US and go to Disneyland. :frowning:

Rac_Rules: That was SO amusing. I literally LOLed irl. xDD It really made my day, lmao.

I hate to go off-topic, but Dana(can I call you that?), did you get the PM I sent you?

^Sure, I don’t mind being called that. :3 And yes, I got your PM just now since I came back from work just a couple of minutes ago, lol. But I’m replying to it right now.

Okay, thanks
