Okay, this is not much of an update, but for anyone who wants more of an in-depth of what exactly happened at the Tangled panel over at Comic-con in San Diego, I found this article which basically lists a run down of all the highlights at the panel.
The one thing I particularly found amusing was this:
For some reason this reminded me of the Finding Nemo commentary on the FN DVD, where there was this one Pixar animator who recorded himself saying Dory’s lines from the “goodbye” scene while he made hilariously awkward expressions to try and get Dory’s movements right. I immediately thought of that after reading this part of the article, and I couldn’t help but laugh really hard. xDDD
Indeed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen the comment “They don’t make cartoons/movies/tv shows like THIS anymore!” with about 500 thumbs up. What people don’t seem to realize is that just because they can only think of good movies from those time periods doesn’t mean that time period was better, just that the good ones are the ones that managed to live through the ages.
Contrary to popular belief, not all traditionally animated movies were high art (Hello, Bebe’s Kids, Home on the Range and Quest for Camelot.) Heck, not all Disney Renaissance films were high art. As huge and obsessive Disney fan I am, I personally found Pocahontas to be rather dull.
Exactly. What a lot of people don’t understand is that this is the 21st century, and we’re at a point of advances and discovery with animation. I mean, why would you want to go backwards in time when there’s so many new things to explore, discover and learn from? It’s all just mind boggling and extremely annoying. :\
lol, I actually really loved Pocahontas, but ugh, I know what you mean and I totally agree with you. I’ve also seen that comment so many times on Youtube and (lol at the most obvious site) on Facebook, and it seriously pisses me off. 2D is NOT a monopoly of “craftsmanship.” There are literally a hundreds of different terrible and poorly made 2D animated films that even Disney produced, just as much as there are terrible CGI films too.
Sorry for the double post, but there’s a new French poster! (even though it’s really small, lol =X)
I’ll try to look for a bigger quality of it next time.
Btw I was re-watching the trailer and I noticed a couple of things about Rapunzel: first thing, she’s actually the very first Disney princess to have freckles. Secondly, if you watch her closely, it appears that she actually has an overbite, not to mention she even has rather big feet. Idk, I just thought it was interesting since she has quite a bit of physical flaws, lol. It makes her really cute though. I know, I’m random.
Danachii: That’s a nice poster! I like how the French title is their version of Rapunzel.
Also, I noticed the freckle thing. But now that you mention it, she does have an overbite and large feet! Thanks for pointing it out. She’s still incredibly beautiful.
I’ve trawled through the six pages of the album in the link you posted, but I can’t find it? Do you have a direct link?
I really hope Disney tries to stick close to the source material, or at least put a similar dark spin on it. For me, it is important that this movie must have:
Rapunzel lose her hair. All the Disney female leads had to sacrifice something in order to pursue their objective, Ariel- her voice, Mulan- her hair and following societal conventions, Jane- her trip back to England, Megara- her life, etc. It is in losing something that they gain something, be it redemption, honour, the man of their dreams, etc. and it makes them stronger as a result.
Flynn redeem himself. We know he’s a rogue, albeit a ‘good-hearted’ one. Rapunzel must be the force that will challenge him or change him for the better into a reformed ‘villain’. To do this, he must be willing to do anything to win her heart, including, I hope, lose his sight or something similarly drastic.
Disney has never shied away from ‘bittersweet endings’. Pocahontas and Princess and the Frog are the best examples. Tangled has not shown any dark or dangerous plots yet, but neither did PATF in its promos, and it took most audiences by surprise. I’m hoping Tangled (which at the moment is looking like a Princess Barbie movie) will do the same for me and other more cynical folks.
Oh, and thanks for the concept art, Danachii! Seeing that beautiful portrait makes me feel all depressed and realize how my pitiful artwork pales in comparison to the sheer awesomeness that is the Disney concept artists!
WHOA! Like seriously, some of the stuff I’ve missed totally blew me away. I haven’t had internet for a while but now that I just got it back, I gotta say. This movie is going to be amazing. I now have no doubts whatsoever. Danachii- that concept art of Rapunzel is absolutely gorgeous! It looks similar to one that they showcased in the second edition of the D23 magazine, I can’t find it online anywhere though xD Also- the poster you posted a few posts back also looks equally amazing. I love how even though Flynn’s like this rough and tumble kinda guy, Rapunzel can beat him up without even lifting a thumb xDD Rac-Rules- I am now buying a ticket and flying to Orlando the first day that the Tangled meet and greet open. The tower with the hair was totally amazing! I can’t wait to see what the actual face characters look like!
I was also going to reply to the rest of your post thedriveintheatre, but that can wait. For now though, let us all enjoy the hilarity of this picture:
HAHAHAHAH! That right there had me cracking up for like 5 minutes on the ground where’d you find that Danachii?
“For deep within the forest, in a hidden tower…”
ohh, sounds magical Also- if you go to Disneystore.com they already have some merchandise up Looks like some pretty cool stuff also!
Another beautiful picture woody! I’ll have to check out the Disney Store site, has Rapunzel been added to the Official Disney Princess website, does anyone know?
