Tangled

YEEES! They didn’t use the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun cover! WHOOT! They still went with "Trouble,‘’ but my deep passionate hate of Miley Cyrus excuses that. And yeah, they are trying to appeal to a younger crowd, but I think the teaser was for us, now they got to sell it to the kiddies.

Think about it; this is the inverse of PATF. PATF’s teaser was pretty weak, mostly jokes and sillyness. Then, the next trailer was friggin gorgeous. This one’s teaser was the beautiful one, the trailer silly. Its really no different.

I’m still excited. Might not be as good as PATF, but it will still probably be good.

PS. Flinn is hot.

Honestly? I’m disappointed that, gorgeous-looking backgrounds aside, the CG character animation appears to be little more than same old-same old. But there was nothing within the footage itself which made me want to gag - just the aggressively “hip” and pandering marketing techniques, which have already been covered here in enough detail. I’m still hoping that the film itself will be entertaining.

Still, while I agree that, “She’s been grounded…like, forever”, is a terrible, terrible tagline, I keep reminding myself that it could be a heck of a lot worse. In my opinion, Disney never sunk lower on the pandering marketing front than when they had their characters break out into a random breakdance in the Chicken Little trailer. That was just embarrassing.

yeah, it used to be like about Shampoo :unamused: That would have really ticked me off.

do you work at Disney? Because that seems like exactly what I would want to see happen  In the article about it in the second D23 magazine, Byron Howard (director) was saying that the theme is that you can’t live your life locked up in a tower, and you have to go out there and just live it. Which seems to me that there’s going to be a lot that Rapunzel has to learn when she finally escapes. Kinda like Giselle in New York.

I second this statement

Like someone said earlier, it seems like that seems to be the norm with most trailers these days. All I can say is, I’m definitely looking forward to the next Tangled trailer.

Or as I mentioned in the Chat-O-Rama, yesterday, the title sounds like a really bad adult movie. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good point!

Again, good point. I think I have a ‘man-crush’ on him. But besides that, I also find Rapunzel very attractive in that shot of her holding the saucepan… :sunglasses:

I totally agree with you on that. Watching it on mute actually makes it look better!

Who could forget the ‘Numa-Numa’ dance? Definitely not the smartest or most heartwarming teaser, but certainly the most memorable back when I watched it. I still find it amusing, TBH. :stuck_out_tongue:

If I remember, PATF had two trailers, so hopefully ‘Tangled Hair-Conditioner’ gets a better second go-round down the road.

mogwai_milkshake - I agree with you, the trailer was terrible on some parts, but it’s mainly the work of marketers to attract more of the very younger audiences. I’m betting we’re going to be getting a much better trailer later on.

Something else I also wanted to add; the thing with trailers is that, more often than not, most of what we see in them are just test footages that aren’t in the actual film, something that mainly occurs with most Pixar and Disney movie trailers (with the trailers for Finding Nemo and Monster’s Inc being ones that that come to mind). So chances are, some of the scenes that we saw here might not even necessarily be IN the actual movie. I mean, I’m even betting that the last scene at the very end of the trailer with Rapunzel’s hair falling on top of Flynn, and Flynn loosing his balance and falling with Maximus (the horse) laughing at him probably isn’t even in the original film. shrugs But we’ll see.

LOL, no. I wish I did though.

Aww, it seems like this movie is going to have such a lovely message! But personally, I have a feeling that I’m going to spend the majority of my time in the theater gushing, fangirling and squeeling over how cute Flynn and Rapunzel are together, only because I’m such a sucker for romance. 8D

Speaking of which, I forgot to mention it, but DANG does Flynn look sexy! I’ve only every seen some concept sketches of him, but watching this trailer made me have a really big crush on him already. Q And Rapunzel is so adorable, beautiful and attractive; I just know I’m going to love her, and she’s going to be one of my favorite Disney princesses alongside Jasmine, Belle and Tiana. <3

That’s true - the trailer in question was a bit skimpy on the plot details, so it felt more like an additional teaser to me than a full trailer. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a more substantial, and hopefully better trailer before the November release date.

The trailer left me confused and wanting more…

In this one it says “Imagine being grounded for a really long time” instead of “Like, forever”. That proves that Disney wasn’t intending to go for hip slogans for this film at first. As for the work-in-progress, I’m not against it being done in CGI or anything but it’s only seeing what the completed shots were like that make the look of the film seem disappointing when it was promised to be more.

Thanks  But, if they’re trying to man this PRINCESS movie up, why do they keep using cheesy pop songs and weird slogans?

Hmn… this trailer isn’t really new to me. I’ve seen it before when it was leaked, but I have to admit, it’s a bit better than the first trailer that we saw, minus the really terrible shampoo tagline and the lame pop song. :unamused:

I mean, why do they keep playing lame pop songs when the music for this film is by Alan Menken (who did really famous scores and songs in The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin)? Shouldn’t they be promoting that instead? That’s what would get a lot of Disney fans excited about, instead of all this teenybopper popculture crap.

Frankly, now I’m not so sure that those shots we saw in the released trailer were complete to begin with. After having re-watched it so many times, I started noticing so many inconsistencies; like how the characters seem a lot more shinier and 2D in some scenes than in others, how some of the rendering doesn’t even appear quite finished, how some of Rapunzel’s trademark paintings don’t even appear on the wall in the background through 0:50 - 1:11 that were in 0:44 and 1:13. And if you notice and compare the two shots of Flynn when he’s tied up at 1:10 and 1:17, the background looks different. Same thing with the background Rapunzel is standing on at 1:13 and 1:23 - they’re completely different, and not even consistent. The tall mountains we see surrounding the tower at 0:40 aren’t even long enough at 0:35, and some of the plants that are on the bricks of the tower at 1:38 aren’t there on the tower at 1:26. The tower just seems really wonky in general when you look at it in 0:36. And it just doesn’t make any sense how Rapunzel would hit Flynn across the head with a saucepan, disappears from behind him, uses her hair as tentacles to slap him around, appears WITHOUT the saucepan in 1:07, and how the saucepan magically reappears in her hand at 1:13. And how the heck does Pascal (the lizard) appear on Rapunzel’s shoulder at 1:23 when he was never there in the first place? O_o;;

I just… don’t know. At this point, I’m really starting to doubt this trailer. This can’t possibly be the final look of the movie. It just can’t. I don’t even think any of what we’re seeing here IS in the actual movie. Now it seems like they’re all just test footages and whatnot.

Best statement of the day!

Seriously, Disney, why?

I… don’t really know about this one. On one hand, it’s not “Wow, I need to see this immediately!” like LotG, The Illusionist, or TS3 for me. Then again, it’s not “uh, no” like Megamind or Despicable Me. I’m really stuck in the middle with this one. I’ll probably end up seeing it like I saw Bolt, but it’s definitely not something I’m hyped up for.

Here are some interesting links I found today.

Glen Keane might not be the director of this film anymore, but he’s still very much involved with this project. He’s serving as the directing animator and as one of the executive producers on it, not to mention he’s also been working very closely with directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, so I don’t think that necessarily means that all of the hard work he’s put into making the visual style look like an oil painting has been completely thrown out of the window. The trailer that we saw didn’t even have completed animation in it and it was completely inconsistent, so who knows? We might be in for a very big surprise in the end.

I can sort of understand why John Lasseter kicked off Glen Keane from the director’s chair though. I’d also be extremely angry if I payed someone billions of dollars to work on a project, only to have them show me literally nothing after seven years. I probably would have done the exact same thing as him. It just goes to show that just because someone is a great animator, doesn’t necessarily make them a great director. Glen was practically working in a bubble, and something had to be done. It was probably for the best anyways.

I’m not familiar with the Glen Keane story, Danachii, but I understand that he was made director and took a really long time to get this project started, so they demoted under the official excuse of ‘health problems’? Although, it’s beginning to smell like a Pinkava/Sanders saga all over again… :unamused:

^He actually was sick though. D: Official sources said that supposedly, he had to recover from a heart attack before he could even continue working on Tangled again.

Anyways, Disney’s facebook page just updated with a brand new concept art from Glen Keane (this is one of his drawings he did for the film):

From the left: Flynn, Rapunzel and Maximus!

I saw the trailer at TS3 today (had already seen it online) and - well, I’m not happy. It took me a little while to warm up to Princess and the Frog, but at least the charm of the 1920s New Orleans setting and the understanding that it was going to be a “real” (as in NOT pop songs) musical made me optimistic. (And they sold me with Facilier’s song.) That’s what I’m missing here: Charm. Instead we get pop songs and slapstick and stuff that is just trying way too hard. I know we have to sell this to the boys, and the tweens and pre-tweens who are too old for cartoons, but… I don’t know, I’m not thrilled with what I’ve seen.

I think this looks to be even less manly than the classic, girl oriented Disney princess movies. The irony kills me, and yes, it does appear to lack charm. But hey, Disney surpried me with Enchanted, and Princess and the Frog, so I might like it.

I don’t mean to bring up the animation of that trailer again, but I just saw it before Toy Story 3 today (on the ultrascreen and in 3D I might add) and I still didn’t see anything that made it feel like a “traditional hand-drawn Disney Classic in 3D” or a painting come to life like they’ve been saying. I’ll still trust what Danachii said though that it might just be unfinished or unaltered footage, but if it turns out that they threw that innovation out the window then any interest I may have in the film might just drop dead.

I can say I’m not as excited about this as I was with TPATF.
Now that I get to thinking about it, I wonder if they’ll pull of the blinding of the prince, wandering everywhere, and finding Rapunzel with their twin babies.

Sigh The original story was pretty darn DARK. A crank y witch taking a guy’s baby just because his wife was craving the “Rapunzel lettuce” while she was pregnant…locking her up from the world, then a long comes a dude that she has illegitimate children with when she has no idea why she’s getting so big. Zoy. From what you folks are saying, I have to say that I’m losing faith in Disney :frowning:

It’s things like this that makes me concerned for my princess story I’m creating. If someone up there wants a movie to be made…I swear I’ll be pickier than my cat when it comes to food…and she’s pretty picky. For one thing, it would be best suited with Scandinavian-style music. SCANDINAVIAN. Like this youtube.com/watch?v=zt-gU7538bs . That actually might be pretty cool to see in a Disney movie.
