Yeah, they’d need to get the rights off Terry Pratchett. However, I don’t see the studio really adapting any of this books into the Disney canon - they’re just too quirky! Maybe if they were produced in stop-motion by Henry Selick’s new animation studio (Disney has agreed to distribute his films) then perhaps it could work. But for a studio which prides itself on telling classic, wholesome, family orientated stories, I don’t see any of Pratchett’s work being made.
But, I’ve heard (well, read on Wikipedia) about ‘Mort’ and I’m not too sure. We’ll have to wait and see about this…
I’m not sure about Mort either. It probably won’t happen anytime in the near future though. Not really digging that one Mickey film that was talked about at the studio. I guess well wait and see about Disney’s future.
The Micky Mouse movie could go either way. It’d be interesting to see them revisit the character which made the studio and company what it is today, but it could go awfully wrong and end up similar to ‘Chicken Little’ or ‘Home on the Range’ - I doubt this however, not with John Lasseter in charge!
But as you said, only time will tell about Disney Animation Studios’ future. ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ looks [i:1x85tlm6]very[/i:1x85tlm6] promising! And I’m intrigued by the potential premise of ‘The King of the Elves.’ So, in my opinion, WDAS’ future looks bright! We might even be entering a second renaissance!
But back to Tangled; I was reading about the upcoming television "sequel" which follows on from the events of the movie. Although the title seems rather similar to DreamWorks’ original name for the fourth Shrek movie (… ) it looks interesting, so I’ll probably end up checking it out.
Wreck-It Ralph looks very interesting because it’s Disney trying something new. I don’t like the plot for it as it sounds too much like Dispicable Me and Megamind. I personally thought that the second Renaissance started after Eisner stepped down as CCO. Anyway, the new Tangled short film looks very promising. It makes a little sense to do it since people were wondering if they indeed got married or not.
Yeah, I guess it’d be nice to wrap up the story. It’s still unnecessary, but I’m excited to see how it turns out. The title though (‘Tangled Ever After’) isn’t great, but I’ll get over it!
Also, I’ve read through the Tangled art-book a few times over the last couple of days. Glen Keane’s sketches are fantastic and you can really see that despite him stepping down from the director’s chair, this really is still his movie. Hopefully, once he’s up-and-ready after recovering from his health problems, he’ll be able to direct a movie of his own one day. He’s such a great guy who really loves the art-form, so it’d be interesting to see what he can do.
Ignoring the Sushi Wall-E and moving on - I hope Pascal and Maximus get a fair amount of screen-time in the upcoming short. They were the best characters in ‘Tangled’ so I’d be disappointed if they were pushed aside
