Tangled

Hi everyone - was just reading a few of your comments about Tangled and wanted to jump in and chat with you about some of them. It’s been interesting to read your thoughts on the teaser trailer, and reminding you that it is just that - a tease  It is supposed to put the movie on your radar, appeal to a broad range of people, and intrigue you into finding out more about the movie! From that perspective, it kind of works, doesn’t it?

And as always, we will have more trailers, clips, images, interviews, music previews and the like for you as the release date gets closer. I’ll be back to read more of your feedback and continue to answer any questions you might have. Thanks for being so honest - we appreciate it!

So DisneyMovies, do you think you can explain for us the whole thing with the special visual look that Glen Keane talked about back when the film was called Rapunzel (like in the test footage seen here: [url]Rapunzel Unbraided (Disney - 2010) - YouTube)? Are you still going for that or is it true that you abandoned it?

^I think they had just abandoned it, but I’m not sure.

DANGIT! I’ve finally started my obsessive clip and screenshot stalking of Tangled (Off schedule, too. I was successfully stalking PATF back in June!) and do you know how hard that is when you only have one bad trailer and two pictures you’ve seen before!? I’ve been satisfying myself with the concept art, but dangit, I need more actual footage and trailers if I am to properly stalk this picture! Hurry up, Disney!

John K. says this film looks terrible. He did a blog post on it and everything.

HOWEVER, he soon took the blog post off.

I think he got more death threats and nasty letters. I feel kind of sorry for the guy. As much as I disagree with most his opinions, they are HIS opinions, and he shouldn’t be attacked for them.

(Though I AM a huge fan of his work, so I’m kind of biased.)

If anybody wants to find an archive of his post, here’s where it once was:
johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2010/06/ … mated.html

Well I’m not sure if he talked about it, but I wouldn’t be surprised with the whole alleged animation change issue. Though he probably wouldn’t have liked it even if we knew they were using it.

I just can’t seem to get over that, can I?

I read the original blog entry a couple times before it was removed. I like hearing alternative viewpoints.

We need more animation bloggers.

Yeah, I’m not suprised that he thinks that it looks terrible. But I agree, it’s his blog and he has the right to say whatever he wants!

But this is John K we’re talking about. Does he really need an excuse to hate something?

And I don’t really care about what he has to say anymore. He’s lost most of his credibility with me. shrugs

I’m not surprised at the amount of hate he got after that post he did on the Tangled trailer. It’s one thing to have an opinion, but it’s another thing to diss Disney fans and use the word “gay” as an insult.

If he still had that post on his blog right about now, I would have pointed out to you which part of it was extremely offending and insulting. But he took it down, and frankly, I’m glad he did.

^
Seconded. :3

YES.YES.YES. :open_mouth: I think I almost died and went halfway to heaven when I saw this photo…the beauty, the colors, the hair flowing in the wind. Just amazing concept art. I cannot wait for this film even more now! only 99 days people!

WOW, thanks for posting that picture, woody. It is absolutely stunning!

OMG woody, where’d you get the pic in your avatar? :open_mouth: Oh, and thanks for the concept art. There really is a trend for ‘full-moonlit pics’ nowadays…

…There are lots of gay John K. fans, and John K. employed gay people back on Ren and Stimpy. There’s a difference between making a couple gay jokes and being a homphobe. And he explained in a comment on the post that he has “nothing against gays, but is surprised a Christian-moral-based company like Disney would promote it”.

I’m not gay, but I’m an avid gay rights supporter, and I laughed at the computer joke.

Hey guys~ I know that you’ve been dying for more footage and thanks for being so patient! We actually have a Comic-Con animation panel this week, where our directors/animators will talk about creating some of the memorable Disney characters and introduce you to the ones you’ll be seeing this fall. Stay tuned - promise we’ll have more coming your way  In the meantime, it’s really interesting to read all your feedback - please keep them coming.

But what about the animation change???

I think its going to be great. Something to be focused on for the girls since Princess and the Frog. I mean the guy looks hot YD and Rapunzel looks adorable i love the Not perfect beautifulness of her YD hahaha its going to be great

Wait, when did Disney promote it? I have nothing against gays either, but I can’t really see Disney promoting gays, as it does tend to be more conservative (which I kind of like. I don’t have to worry about it demonizing me as much. Happy Feet, I don’t need to hear what you think about religion, thanks)

But oh my God, that concept art up there…I fan-exploded.

@Rac_Rules: John K has nothing to do with Disney, don’t worry. 8D

Also, I could bring up a lot of other points as to why I had a problem with that post as well as his arrogant attitude in general, but I don’t want to turn this place into a John K hate thread or anything, so let’s just keep everything back on topic.

ANYWAYS, we finally got new updates! First, here’s some concept art.

In addition, there was also a Tangled panel over at Comic-con today, and we had both directors Bryan Howard and Nathan Greno, as well as producer Glen Keane and some of the animators as visitors, all of them talking about how the film is shaping up as well as answering peoples concerns and questions. Here’s a little bit on what happened and what they had to say (provided with some photographs too):

Well if they mean regular run-of-the-mill CGI now, then I’ll just have to see how unique they can really make it. If the film was just going to be regular CGI from the start and wasn’t promising to be anything more than that early on, I know I wouldn’t be having any problem with it.

I’m also a bit bugged by how Disney seems like they’re pretending that Glen Keane’s test didn’t happen like they’re covering it up, as I haven’t heard them give out any kind of official explanation as to whether or not they’re doing it, and if not, why. I know I’ve heard people say it was for being too expensive, but somehow I have trouble buying that kind of reason. That’s why I wished that DisneyMovies would have provided an answer, as he/she would know more than any of us.

I know I just posted, but OMG there’s even MORE pictures from the Tangled panel at the Comic-con! :astonished:

I don’t know about everyone else, but all of these concept arts, pictures and quotes is making me SO DAMN EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE, OMFGGGG!!! squeals  lol :X
