That “gubbagubbagubba” sound he makes when he’s making an effort.
The “ooh” sound he makes when the cockroach is presumed squished.
The yell he gives as he’s propelled into outer space. (Listen carefully and note how, right at the end, it goes up in pitch again before it fades out)
The way he rushes back and forth in panic as the spaceship lands.
The way he pats Luxo and the vacuum cleaner on the head.
The “There” sound he makes after fixing Luxo’s lamp.
The way he trembles. Is there anything more adorable in this universe?
The way he retreats into his ‘shell’ when scared.
The way he takes pride in his work (I refer you to the lamp and the way he adjusts the piles of garbage)
And, of course, the way he says his name. Chills, dude.
I also get the feeling that Wall-E is more of a ‘working-class’ hero than anyone before in the Pixar universe. He has a menial task, equivalent to a janitor’s, and the way he’s voiced and his naïveté add to that; also, he’s not prettified; his paint’s worn and he generally looks like he works with his hands. Which makes me love him more, and if that’s followed up on, I’ll respect the fellows at Pixar a whole lot more.
How 'bout you? Anything I missed?
…Darn, I would have preferred another year of addiction to Ratatouille before falling in love again…
Ha-ha. Wow. The darn film hasn’t even come out yet and it’s already touched the hearts of people. Most charming.
I love all those little things about WALL•E that you mentioned, too, especially numbers three and seven. (Number three gave me chills, man. I loved it.)
Well, to add onto the “collection”…
He has no mouth and doesn’t talk!
I’ve always been attracted to characters who are devoid of a mouth, for some reason, even if they can talk. WALL•E can communicate to some extent, but he doesn’t verbalize via full-length sentences and/or words. Everything is emitted via bloops and beeps, which is quite charming in my humble opinion.
Some Special Trivia to Tickle Your Brain: A similar sound is made by the character of Lily the frog in the sequel to the hit PC game Frogger, known as Frogger: Swampy’s Revenge. (At least, it sounds similar to me. Heheh.)
it’s interesting that Skippy mentioned solar charged… how can he get his energy if he’s on a space ship? … is this forshadowing of a bitter sweet ending?
Anyways, I love his little “whooooaaa” sound he made when he saw Eve. __ adorable!
27: ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH WALL-E!!!
