I quite agree, and I think he has that eccentricness about him that would suit Calculs perfectly.
I’m glad we finally get to see the Tin Tin project. I think Speilberg bought the rights to him in the 80’s, but the project just never went through.
Yes, cause it wouldn’t work as a live action film.
CLEESE, CLEESE, PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE! I love this guy, though not my favourite Python, he’s still a great actor to me. I think he could pull of Calculus really well.
As for a sequel, maybe they should stop at Rakham’s. Or re-do the series!
It really wouldn’t, there are scenes in the film which could never have been done live action. I’m not sure about doing Red Rackham because there isn’t much of a story to continue with.
The commercials here so far have been very promising. Just hope that this film will be a success here.
This comes out in the US tomorrow right?
It’s the American’s turn to watch Tintin and the Brit’s turn to watch Puss in Boots
Yep. It’s being advertised well here which makes me to believe it will at least cross 100M here. The commercials for Tin Tin look great and it’ll most likely be a great film. I must say the Captain looks like a pretty funny character.
Oh, I read an article about Tin Tin in the paper last week. It was about how Speilberg and Peter Jackson are ready to bring Tin Tin to America. I guess that means that they want the character to be known more here and have people seek out the original comics.
I’m now worried that you and SoA are gonna be disappointed after I have been raving about it for 2 months . I will say that it improved on second viewing. And, maybe slight spoilers, the film itself improves drastically when Captain Haddock is introduced.
I’m glad to hear its been advertised well, although I saw one of the US TV spots whilst having a gander on youtube and the one where the voiceover goes “Critics are saying it’s the perfect cross between Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean!!!” which, for some reason, made me laugh out loud. It’s not that he’s wrong, it’s just the way he said it! The advertising was curious over here, almost nothing at all until about a week it came out and then it was everywhere, but it seemed to work; it was number 1 in the UK Box Office for 2 weeks and in the top 10 for 6 or 7, I think.
I’d love more than anything for people to read the comics. Even if some critics disliked it, maybe it’ll still spark interest in the comics. Yay!
I remember seeing that TV spot to. I’m going to try to check out Tin Tin. That’s if my cousin doesn’t convince my aunt to see Alvin. By gosh, I will not sit through Alvin.
Oh God, Alvin! That came out here last week and one of my friends at work said he wanted to see it and we all just glared at him. I’ll wait until the DVD, if at all.
It came out last week here to. It’s getting negative reviews which I thought it would. Wouldn’t surprise me if any of the critics got annoyed with any of the chipmunk characters. It didn’t do too well last week as it got pummeled by competition, particularly Sherlock Holmes which was number 1 at the box office last week.
I doubt that. I’m a huge Spielberg fan, and I’ve only been disappointed with his films a couple of times.
Besides, this is the kind of film that can’t go wrong with me.
^Same, but I lowered my expectations anyway. If anything, good or bad, it will hopefully raise awareness of the comics.
Sherlock Holmes is number 1 here too, Ballboi
Yep. I kind of have mixed opinions on it opening at number 1 though.
Why’s that?
Yeah, rather Sherlock Holmes than Alvin imo. I’ve heard it’s an okay film from my sister who saw it the other day.
Lots of good stuff coming in the next 2 weeks
Yep. Alot of competition for Tin Tin to fight here in America, which is a reason why I don’t see it doing too great.
I just checked out RT and it’s kinda gone from 86% to 76%…which isn’t terrible but interesting nonetheless. I think the unfamiliarity of the comics have rubbed off on some of the critics, with some citing that “Tintin is too bland a character” and “too much fizz bang action” and “a bit gimmicky”…which is exactly what you get when you’re reading the comics…
Ebert gave it a good review though
I think your right. Maybe the unfamiarity of the comics kind of got to the critics. I’m still relieved that it’s getting good reviews though.
