Thanks for your advice, guys. :slight_smile: I see that you guys are mostly suggesting to go with the virus scanner- even though itā€™s expensive, itā€™s worth it.

I was able to save some files on a USB drive, and some precious pictures from trips our family took in the last four years are saved (thankfully) on a CD. Not everything is lost, but unfortunately, I was too late to save some other files. It crashed very suddenly yesterday. So much lost already.
I donā€™t know what my father will do, but when I brought it up, it really got him into a bad mood. I guess itā€™s because $800 is a lot of money for a virus scanner, and we donā€™t know whether to trust this new one because our last one failed us.

I, myself, think that itā€™s best to go with purchasing that virus scanner, if nothing else is cheaper. But $800 for a virus scanner just doesnā€™t sound right, and Iā€™m sure my dad thinks so, too.

I heard my dad on the phone with some people ( I think they were computer technicians, but I donā€™t know for sure exactly who he was talking to), so I think weā€™re going to solve this problem sooner or later.

Iā€™m kinda keeping out of discussing the situation with him, though, because Iā€™m no expert, and he gets really frustrated about this type of thing being brought up. Last time, he spent countless hours trying to fix it, and I understand that heā€™d be furious about it happening all over again. Hopefully, the problem will somehow be resolved, and our computers be back to normal again, for good this time.
Whatever my dad decides to go with, then I sure hope for the best.

Since I donā€™t want to create a new thread for my declaration as to what has been doing on, Iā€™m going to address the issue here and, perhaps, receive some constructive advices from you (read the third paragraph before proceeding).

So, itā€™s been days since that ill incident we shouldnā€™t talk about and, well, since then, itā€™s been kinda difficult for me to move on from there as it was to move on in the two previous forums I was a part of back then. For one of them, I failed to move on at all (serebii forums). The other took about five to six months before things finally cooled down, but the fire and, specifically, the flames, were still burning very wildly.

So, my request is this. I donā€™t really intend to concern myself with your thoughts about me (even if I am partially concern), so, for the next few weeks, I hope you other Pixar Planet forums members would, at the least, provide me the benefit of keeping your ill-thoughts to yourself. Iā€™m sure everyone else had moved on from you-know-what already, but I still need some time, so, yeah, maybe you could assist me in thisā€¦ ā€˜rehabilitation process,ā€™ if you will.

Oh, and also, I would like to put out my apology in advance to any further rudeness I may display throughout this period (including an apology to TSS for another rude behavior I displayed to him through a PM just few minutes ago [lack of profanities, of course]) (yeah, I kinda thought you were being hypocritical back there) as I have been and would probably still be having several distorted thoughts throughout this couple of days. But no worries. No more of those colorful languages for now, just lots of sulking and pouting (think Ryan the lion cub from The Wild).

Iā€™m sorry, WBoon, but I have to say this, and please take it in the nicest way possible.

I understand that you are trying to change, but do think about things before you send it. Your problems arenā€™t an excuse to be rude and insult people when we would get banned if we did. If you send a PM that you wouldnā€™t want someone to send you, stop trying to justify it with your anger, because then itā€™s not going to get any better. The only way to stop is to, well, stop. Next time you write a message, pretend someone sent that message to you. If you would get insulted, then donā€™t send or rewrite it in a way that expresses your concerns nix the attacks.

Itā€™s not just anger, you know. With TSSā€™s case, it was the belief of the existence of hypocrisy, a trait that could be almost undetectable.

Though I believe that TSS had his good intentions when he wrote that post and when he locked that thread, he didnā€™t really write it in an effective manner such that no ill-thoughts might be suggested or otherwise, so, itā€™s really a two-way thing if you want to blame someone and, you, Rac_Rules, really seemed like you really want to blame someone.

Rather than lecturing, try helping and be productive. Two wrongs doesnā€™t make one right, so if you Pixar Planet forums members are decent enough, try to repair, not destroy by sprouting more flames with your sparks of lectures. Itā€™s lectures like these that created the first flame war in the first place. Heck, itā€™s the thing that creates any war.

And yes, I know I am lecturing, but just because I am wrong, doesnā€™t mean you have to be indecent as well. Treat this as a test to you, if you will. Try and cease the flames from building up using your saintly personality, if you have one.

Next constructive criticism, please.

Iā€™m sorry if you felt I was blaming you, I wasnā€™t. Itā€™s just, I felt the only reason you would apologize for it was because it was bad :laughing: . If someone sends you something you want to reply to, make sure you reply to them in a way that you donā€™t feel the need to do so. Like you said, two wrongs donā€™t make a right. I donā€™t know what TSS said, but that really doesnā€™t matter.

Iā€™m writing these things because I want to help you, not because I want to lecture you. Unfortunately, the road to reconstruction is rarely an easy one. Great, now Iā€™m starting to sound like a fortune cookie. Anyway, I have anger problems sometimes too. But in the end, only ourselves can truly help us.

Well, I am sorry, again, but I will have to insert yet anotherā€¦ ā€˜excuse,ā€™ if you will, for my manner of reacting towards your comments. My eyes had been burnt by too many flames in my life (regardless of their starter), so much so that I could no longer differentiate what is filled with ill-thoughts and what is not. Sociopathic, if you will. It might seem like an excuse for me to escape whatever nonconstructive punishment you people might have in mind, but if you would mind your words and really post with the best of intentions, there really isnā€™t any need for such excuses to be recognized.

Again, itā€™s not really an issue of anger to be considered here. Anger is merely triggered by thoughts triggered by different acts of people. If one is truly decent, even faced with a tempered soul, he or she would be kind enough to calm the creature down and turn it into something great. Now that is constructive, and that is how world peace could be achieved.

That I can understand, and relate to. I am the youngest of four, and all of my sisters where great at what they do. What does that mean? Expectations. I am really mad at my dad these days, I just feel that he blows the smallest thing out of proportion. When Iā€™m mad at him, I can really be a real jerk to my friends. Itā€™s worse with people that donā€™t know me that well, since they are pushed away before they can get to know me. I also have the tendency to want to get back at people who insult me, and I can come up with some really catty comments.

And I feel we all get a little carried away with what I call the ā€œfreedom of the keypadā€, since we arenā€™t afraid to say things that we would never say in person (If you have seen some of my comments on political boards, youā€™ll know what I mean) because we donā€™t know the person, they donā€™t know us. They canā€™t really do anything to us, contrary to what people can do if we say them in person, physically and socially.

Well, itā€™s good that youā€™ve apologised, WBoon. Just read through stuff before you post it, because then that gives you an oppurtunity to change things before hitting the ā€˜sendā€™ button, if you see what I mean. Then you wonā€™t do anything that you regret. Itā€™s something I always do, just to make sure that Iā€™m saying what I want to say, as opposed to just saying how Iā€™m feeling at the time.

Looking back at this really brings back some memories. I know that my post here is no longer involving the intention of seeking advices, but I would just like to say that itā€™s really great how Iā€™m still able to thrive in a community for the first time after making mistakes as grave as such.

Well, Iā€™ve been given a lot of opportunities to change before in other forums as I have been given here, so Iā€™m not going to neglect this one. Iā€™ve created a lot of significant damage, but I hope Iā€™m given time to repent and, if possible, repair.

Thanks, guys (and gals), for being supportive once again. Hope I can make a difference to this community positively this time.

Twilight would be good, of you can stand to sit through it. Australia, I havenā€™t seen it but I know it has action and romance so neither of you would be totally bored. If you wouldnā€™t mind and your date wouldnā€™t mind, Bolt might be a fun, casual movie if you guys are more of friends then an item.

I need advice. I broke my wireless usb tab thingy last night and need a new one to get on the internet (Iā€™m on my sisterā€™s laptop right now). A new one would cost $40, admittedly not that much but still a good sum of cash. Now, my sister will be getting a new laptop from her college in atleast two months from now, so I would get this one that has built in wireless. I have two choices:

-Buy a wirless thing for $40 until I get this computer.

or

-Wait months internetless for this one.

I could do the latter, but my sister is a busy lady (homework) and spends most of her home hours working. My only solid hours available with this one would be 4-7 when sheā€™s doing her sport. I have my own work and worry this may not be enough. What should I do? I donā€™t want to spend all that money for only a few months of internet, but need the internet for my schoolwork.

Iā€™d say just try out using your sisā€™s laptop for for a few days or a week, and see if it works out alright. If not, Iā€™d out the $40 down. You ulitmately have to decide if internet access is worth the $40, and only you can know that. Just my two cents, hope it helpds.

$800US? NO. Those files are still saveable, and $800 is too much. They are RIPPING YOU OFF.

You need to reinstall windows, which will cost $100 at most, but as i said, you need to save those files first. Could you give me some info about this $800 scanner? Iā€™ll be able to tell if its a scam or not.

I need technical information more than advice,at the moment, but I donā€™t want to create another thread.

My computer is suffering an overheating problem. I donā€™t want to replace it, and I donā€™t want to take it apart. Anyone know a cheap but effective solution?

Is it a laptop? Because they sell cooling fans for laptops. Otherwise I donā€™t know what to tell you. Hope you find a solution!

'Ello everyone,

Well, I was just browsing the internet on my dadā€™s computer, as usual, when suddenly a new window popped up stating that the computer had contracted the ā€œTrojanā€ virus. Iā€™ve heard about this thing, and I take it that itā€™s not good. My dadā€™s computer is a MacIntosh OS X version 10.4.11, and itā€™s remained in excellent condition for years. Now that Iā€™ve gotten a warning stating that the system is currently harnessing a virus, Iā€™d like to get rid of the perpetrator as soon as possible.

My question is this: How do you access the C and D drives on a MacIntosh?

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out where the panel for accessing these drives is located, no matter what I do. When I got that message stating that a virus had been contracted, the window which showcased these drives popped up automatically, and now I canā€™t figure out how to get them back up again. I never haveā€¦

If it makes any difference, I went to the Live Journal website when this warning materialized onto the screen; however, when I deleted the ā€œwarningā€ box/window, I went back to Live Journal to see if it was the cause of the virusā€¦ and nothing happened, so I guess it wasnā€™t the website that did any damage.

Help?

Mitch: Are you sure it wasnā€™t just a fake pop-up ad? If it were real, it wouldā€™ve had the logo of a reliable virus-protection software that you have. If not, itā€™s nothing to worry about.
