The Art of little_chef (and her sis)

Thanks, Hannah!

While I’m thinking about it I might as well post the link to a recent drawing I did of Hans and Lina (for those of you who don’t know, they’re fancharacters and human interpretations of the reject bots HAN-S and L-T). Again, I feel bad re-posting these if you’ve seen them on deviantART, but might as well for those who can’t comment on dA.

Plus I’ve kind of been having a hard time getting this thread to be looked at as often as it used to, so… doesn’t hurt to bump it with a new piece of artwork.

little chef

Hans and Lina rock! Splats forever!

Thanks, JustSoWall-eCrazy! It’s so awesome to have such an avid fan of the Splats, I didn’t think anyone would think they’re that cool.

Okay, seriously. Whut has happened to this here art thread. It’s not like I expect people to comment, especially people who have already commented on dA cuz I know for myself, if I comment somewhere to someone it’s kind of pointless to say something again. So I feel you there. I’ll just keep posting anyway, regardless. Maybe someone will come along and like what I’ve got here, I dunno anymore. :unamused:

I was just thinking about this today, and it really bothered me; and that’s all the times I’ve said to you guys, “Oh, I’m gonna draw this! I’m gonna finish this!” and then you never hear of it again or even see it. I feel like a liar, almost; but the truth is, I’m sure a lot of artists have done the same thing. We just get so distracted by new ideas and new opportunities to try out something new. Either that, or we just get plain sick of looking at that piece of paper we’ve been working on for weeks and scrap trying to finish it.

I told you I’d draw:

AUTO and GO-4 as humans (which I actually ended up doing in my WALL•E char montage)
A pic of AUTO and D-FIB as humans (which still lies in sketch form to this day)
Pages 2 and 3 of the Splats (my style has changed immensely since then so it’d be pointless to finish them)
Humanized WALL•E and EVE “couple pic” (Wally is the only one digitally colored, and not even shaded yet)
“Meet the Splats” (still in WIP form )
That pic of EVE and her baby, where I’m experimenting with digital painting (hasn’t progressed since you saw it last)

:frowning: What a loser, huh?

Anywho, I intend to finish the project I started on Monday. I made a LOT of progress on it yesterday, and even though it’s going to need lots of detail work more than anything, I have it set in my mind that it will get finished. As I said in the current mood thread, it’s looking too good so far to just leave sitting unfinished on the hard drive.

Hint-hint: It’s a pic of Alfredo when he’s little, it has to do with my old Ratatouille fanfic, and it’s intended to look like a screenshot. I think I’m gonna nail it.

little chef

Can’t wait to see that. I love Ratatouille! (the film, not the dish  ) That’s my favorite Pixar movie right behind WALL•E!!!

And thank you for the mention. Seriously, I’m a big fan of the reject-bots, and I believe they deserve more screentime. In fact, I’ve actually attempted to write a human WALL•E series (spun off from my fanfic) that tells of the characters adventures in high school, and the reject-bots are the main characters in it.

Well, since that pic of Alfredo is still in progress (I’m getting somewhere, yaaaay!), might as well put up a little OC scribble I did last night. If you read through the artist’s comments, Mallory Joliet used to be more of a Ratatouille OC, but his story ended up becoming so far from the movie that I kind of adopted it as an original idea. But since he still started out as a fan character, might as well post him under fan art.

I posted it mainly for the back story, so for those of you who are actually interested in back story you can take a look and a read.

little chef

Oookay, since that didn’t fly well, here’s a sketch of WALL•E I did with the new pens I got for Christmas.

Tips and critique are very much appreciated!

little chef

Oh my gosh, that’s so sweet I’m already getting tooth decay! Great job, I’ve nothing really to add to this except that you left out his ‘eyebrows’. As much as I like your human interpretations of the characters, maybe you should try drawing them as they are from the movie as robots? Anyway, this is too adorable. Faves

Your Mallory character sketch is neat and simply well-drawn to an impressive level. Really good for what you called a warm-up doodle. I also read his story on artist’s comments…poor Mallory, being treated by his mother and the town as if he shouldn’t exist. :frowning: Anyway, did I mention this picture of him at age 5 is adorable?

Your WALL-E pic is so cute! Minus the shading being a little rough (but acceptable anyway), and the minor lack of his little ‘eyebrows’, it looks very nice and neat and I love the way you captured his innocent personality and expression by positioning the eyes just right. Good job!

Aww, guys, thanks so much for visiting this abandoned thread when no one else would. hugshugshugs

TDIT: Well, the screencap I used to get a basic idea of the eye position for WALL•E did not include those little “eyebrows”, so therefore I did not add them, as I didn’t think they’d be essential to the drawing itself. However I know what you’re saying, and they would have added a nice touch, but I still think the expression is okay without them.

I’ve considered drawing them more as robots, mainly cuz I suck at them and need more practice, but I don’t usually post everything I draw because most of my sketches look like crap.

BDD: Someone noticed little Mallory! Aww, I wouldn’t say my sketches are “impressive”, but it’s so flattering to hear such a compliment! I’m happy with the current design, it’s taken a few tries to finally get him right. (And being a better artist in general helps, too.)

It was the 2nd time I shaded with my new pens for that WALL•E drawing, so yeah, the shading is a bit rough… but I hope to master the darn things soon and get a cleaner shade eventually.

Thanks again guys! It’s always refreshing to finally get some meaningful comments.

little chef

That Wall E sketch is really adorable! You’ve captured his innocence and curiosity. While the shading is a bit rough, I think it works well enough with the sketch. I’m sure you’ll master your new pens soon!

That’s a very sweet drawing of WALL-E, red! I love the composition of it and its simplicity- it works very well in black and white, too. I agree with what the others have said about the shading, but it does work well in a sketch of this type.

Awww, that new Wall-E drawing is really good! I really like it! And I read through the story of Mallory Joliet, and I thought it was pretty good too! I’m pretty interested in seeing where his story goes.

Great Job!

I know I’ve reviewed these, but they’re wonderful. Mallory’s story made me cry, and your WALL•E sketch…exceptional!!!

Umm, whoa. Comments are appearing out of nowhere. This is new. O-O

Hannahmation: I’m hoping to get used to shading with the pens, too. It’s a whole different ballgame when you can’t go back and erase a little mistake that you made. I’m sure I’ll find opportunities to practice shading on my little scribbles or something. I love my pens soooo much!

lizardgirl: Thanks, I think he came out pretty cute, too. <3 I always stay true to his original design, but usually I make his camera lenses slightly bigger to give it more of a “cute” effect. I think it works.

mo: I’ll probably end up expounding on Mallory’s story later if I draw him more, since, as I said in the artist’s comments, he’s only like 5 in that sketch so it’d be kind of pointless to explain the rest of his story when he grows up. Thanks so much!

JSWC: Awwww, Mallory’s story made you cry? I don’t know whether to feel bad or honored! Man, if you thought his story was bad, his son Joelinne’s is even worse. O-O I’m glad you like the WALL•E sketch, too - at the time of drawing it I thought it looked pretty stupid.

little chef

Who’s Joelinne?

Joelinne is Mallory’s son… I actually linked to a page of sketches I did of him in the artist’s comments of my Mallory sketch, because I mentioned Joelinne there. If you can’t find it linked there, you can always browse again through my gallery or check out my “original characters” folder - it should be in there somewhere.

little chef

I just saw him. You are so right. His story is much sadder and harder than Mallory’s. :frowning:

Happy New Year! (I know it’s late to say that, but this is my new year’s pic so I HAD to say it!)

A few from dA have already seen this, but go ahead, take a look and tell me what you think! If you’re wondering who the characters are, it’s Hans and Lina. Yeah. Almost unrecognizable, I know.

Enjoy!

little chef

Wow, little_chef! They look great, so sweet! Your lineart is impeccable, and you’ve handled some pretty difficult things (like Hans’ hand wrapped round Lina’s arm) really well. The colouring is clean but you’ve got a really nice soft touch with it, not using colours that are too bright or anything like that. I usually like to critique artwork, but I genuinely can’t think of any improvements that can be made to this one.

I know what you mean! Pens offer up a nice challenge. I once had to use up two full ball point pens for one of the assignments for my drawing classes. Not being able to erase at all on a rather large scale drawing was quite difficult… and it was an architectural drawing as well. :open_mouth:

I really like your New Year’s drawing. The line art is really nice and the coloring is nice and soft. It has a great quality to it. I especially like the way Lina’s dress came out. The only thing that slightly bugs me is Lina’s right hand. I understand it’s behind the folds in her dress, but I think even just a hint of a finger or two could add some extra readability to it.
