While Iâm thinking about it I might as well post the link to a recent drawing I did of Hans and Lina (for those of you who donât know, theyâre fancharacters and human interpretations of the reject bots HAN-S and L-T). Again, I feel bad re-posting these if youâve seen them on deviantART, but might as well for those who canât comment on dA.
Plus Iâve kind of been having a hard time getting this thread to be looked at as often as it used to, so⌠doesnât hurt to bump it with a new piece of artwork.
Thanks, JustSoWall-eCrazy! Itâs so awesome to have such an avid fan of the Splats, I didnât think anyone would think theyâre that cool.
â
Okay, seriously. Whut has happened to this here art thread. Itâs not like I expect people to comment, especially people who have already commented on dA cuz I know for myself, if I comment somewhere to someone itâs kind of pointless to say something again. So I feel you there. Iâll just keep posting anyway, regardless. Maybe someone will come along and like what Iâve got here, I dunno anymore.
I was just thinking about this today, and it really bothered me; and thatâs all the times Iâve said to you guys, âOh, Iâm gonna draw this! Iâm gonna finish this!â and then you never hear of it again or even see it. I feel like a liar, almost; but the truth is, Iâm sure a lot of artists have done the same thing. We just get so distracted by new ideas and new opportunities to try out something new. Either that, or we just get plain sick of looking at that piece of paper weâve been working on for weeks and scrap trying to finish it.
I told you Iâd draw:
AUTO and GO-4 as humans (which I actually ended up doing in my WALLâ˘E char montage)
A pic of AUTO and D-FIB as humans (which still lies in sketch form to this day)
Pages 2 and 3 of the Splats (my style has changed immensely since then so itâd be pointless to finish them)
Humanized WALLâ˘E and EVE âcouple picâ (Wally is the only one digitally colored, and not even shaded yet)
âMeet the Splatsâ (still in WIP form )
That pic of EVE and her baby, where Iâm experimenting with digital painting (hasnât progressed since you saw it last)
What a loser, huh?
Anywho, I intend to finish the project I started on Monday. I made a LOT of progress on it yesterday, and even though itâs going to need lots of detail work more than anything, I have it set in my mind that it will get finished. As I said in the current mood thread, itâs looking too good so far to just leave sitting unfinished on the hard drive.
Hint-hint: Itâs a pic of Alfredo when heâs little, it has to do with my old Ratatouille fanfic, and itâs intended to look like a screenshot. I think Iâm gonna nail it.
Canât wait to see that. I love Ratatouille! (the film, not the dish ) Thatâs my favorite Pixar movie right behind WALLâ˘E!!!
And thank you for the mention. Seriously, Iâm a big fan of the reject-bots, and I believe they deserve more screentime. In fact, Iâve actually attempted to write a human WALLâ˘E series (spun off from my fanfic) that tells of the characters adventures in high school, and the reject-bots are the main characters in it.
Well, since that pic of Alfredo is still in progress (Iâm getting somewhere, yaaaay!), might as well put up a little OC scribble I did last night. If you read through the artistâs comments, Mallory Joliet used to be more of a Ratatouille OC, but his story ended up becoming so far from the movie that I kind of adopted it as an original idea. But since he still started out as a fan character, might as well post him under fan art.
I posted it mainly for the back story, so for those of you who are actually interested in back story you can take a look and a read.
Oh my gosh, thatâs so sweet Iâm already getting tooth decay! Great job, Iâve nothing really to add to this except that you left out his âeyebrowsâ. As much as I like your human interpretations of the characters, maybe you should try drawing them as they are from the movie as robots? Anyway, this is too adorable. Faves
Your Mallory character sketch is neat and simply well-drawn to an impressive level. Really good for what you called a warm-up doodle. I also read his story on artistâs commentsâŚpoor Mallory, being treated by his mother and the town as if he shouldnât exist. Anyway, did I mention this picture of him at age 5 is adorable?
Your WALL-E pic is so cute! Minus the shading being a little rough (but acceptable anyway), and the minor lack of his little âeyebrowsâ, it looks very nice and neat and I love the way you captured his innocent personality and expression by positioning the eyes just right. Good job!
Aww, guys, thanks so much for visiting this abandoned thread when no one else would. hugshugshugs
TDIT: Well, the screencap I used to get a basic idea of the eye position for WALLâ˘E did not include those little âeyebrowsâ, so therefore I did not add them, as I didnât think theyâd be essential to the drawing itself. However I know what youâre saying, and they would have added a nice touch, but I still think the expression is okay without them.
Iâve considered drawing them more as robots, mainly cuz I suck at them and need more practice, but I donât usually post everything I draw because most of my sketches look like crap.
BDD: Someone noticed little Mallory! Aww, I wouldnât say my sketches are âimpressiveâ, but itâs so flattering to hear such a compliment! Iâm happy with the current design, itâs taken a few tries to finally get him right. (And being a better artist in general helps, too.)
It was the 2nd time I shaded with my new pens for that WALLâ˘E drawing, so yeah, the shading is a bit rough⌠but I hope to master the darn things soon and get a cleaner shade eventually.
Thanks again guys! Itâs always refreshing to finally get some meaningful comments.
That Wall E sketch is really adorable! Youâve captured his innocence and curiosity. While the shading is a bit rough, I think it works well enough with the sketch. Iâm sure youâll master your new pens soon!
Thatâs a very sweet drawing of WALL-E, red! I love the composition of it and its simplicity- it works very well in black and white, too. I agree with what the others have said about the shading, but it does work well in a sketch of this type.
Awww, that new Wall-E drawing is really good! I really like it! And I read through the story of Mallory Joliet, and I thought it was pretty good too! Iâm pretty interested in seeing where his story goes.
Umm, whoa. Comments are appearing out of nowhere. This is new. O-O
Hannahmation: Iâm hoping to get used to shading with the pens, too. Itâs a whole different ballgame when you canât go back and erase a little mistake that you made. Iâm sure Iâll find opportunities to practice shading on my little scribbles or something. I love my pens soooo much!
lizardgirl: Thanks, I think he came out pretty cute, too. <3 I always stay true to his original design, but usually I make his camera lenses slightly bigger to give it more of a âcuteâ effect. I think it works.
mo: Iâll probably end up expounding on Malloryâs story later if I draw him more, since, as I said in the artistâs comments, heâs only like 5 in that sketch so itâd be kind of pointless to explain the rest of his story when he grows up. Thanks so much!
JSWC: Awwww, Malloryâs story made you cry? I donât know whether to feel bad or honored! Man, if you thought his story was bad, his son Joelinneâs is even worse. O-O Iâm glad you like the WALLâ˘E sketch, too - at the time of drawing it I thought it looked pretty stupid.
Joelinne is Malloryâs son⌠I actually linked to a page of sketches I did of him in the artistâs comments of my Mallory sketch, because I mentioned Joelinne there. If you canât find it linked there, you can always browse again through my gallery or check out my âoriginal charactersâ folder - it should be in there somewhere.
Happy New Year! (I know itâs late to say that, but this is my new yearâs pic so I HAD to say it! )
A few from dA have already seen this, but go ahead, take a look and tell me what you think! If youâre wondering who the characters are, itâs Hans and Lina. Yeah. Almost unrecognizable, I know.
Wow, little_chef! They look great, so sweet! Your lineart is impeccable, and youâve handled some pretty difficult things (like Hansâ hand wrapped round Linaâs arm) really well. The colouring is clean but youâve got a really nice soft touch with it, not using colours that are too bright or anything like that. I usually like to critique artwork, but I genuinely canât think of any improvements that can be made to this one.
I know what you mean! Pens offer up a nice challenge. I once had to use up two full ball point pens for one of the assignments for my drawing classes. Not being able to erase at all on a rather large scale drawing was quite difficult⌠and it was an architectural drawing as well.
I really like your New Yearâs drawing. The line art is really nice and the coloring is nice and soft. It has a great quality to it. I especially like the way Linaâs dress came out. The only thing that slightly bugs me is Linaâs right hand. I understand itâs behind the folds in her dress, but I think even just a hint of a finger or two could add some extra readability to it.
